I love fanfiction...though some are totally rotten...and I've tried a few slash FICA myself ;) Have to admit you're the first author who I've ever come across to be okay with fanfiction...which is awesome by the way! I loved your book..and yes..even as I was reading it I couldn't help but imagine that Kvothe and Bast could have something going behind the scenes...know...I'm such a pervert...But I don't have the guts to write a Kvothe/Bast fanfic so far...coz I'm some one who likes to maintain the same style....no OOCness ( though it can be fun some times lol)...Unfortunately, I'm having a little trouble finding Wise Man's fear in SriLanka :( Will stop rambling...
All the Best Pat!

Dear Patrick Rothfuss,

This is why I love you.
I stumbled upon Diana Gabaldon's great rant regarding fanfiction, shortly followed by George R. Martin's own post on the subject - which had me thinking. "What does my number one favourite author think, then?"
So I googled it - and found this. A little burst of joy regarding a yaoi fanfiction that made me laugh out loud.
Thank you for not taking this so bloody seriously. Thank you for keeping your humour intact despite all the pressure that your (undoubtedly) huge fanbase must put on you. Thank you for not worrying about being politically correct; and first and foremost - Thank you for not being afraid.

Just... thanks.
Rock on.

Slash is freaking awesome. So are authors who like Fanfiction. Anne Rice, who is generally awesome, hates FanFiction with something that could most accurately be described as "the power of a thousand burning suns." Or starts, if we wanted to be scientifically accurate.

I found a more NC-17 rated FF at http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4647006/1/
Let's face it, NC-17 makes everything better. It's like being part of an exclusive club.

I brought a copy of The Name of The Wind today, which means the friend I borrowed my previous copy finally gets it back. I've done nothing but read, read, read since I got home. I actually think I cried at some stage because this books is so awesome. I am crying from your awesomeness.

Yey!
Pat, my respect for you grows every time I learn something new about you. First the book itself, then the picture of you on wikipedia (you're wearing a t-shirt that says "Joss Whedon is my master now"), then your blog in generall, then this post.

And Kvothe/Bast? Well, that's pretty much cannon!
I can also clearly see Elodin/the guy in the Crockery, Wilem/Simmon, and Hemmes/Brandeur.

A personal favorite of mine is also Kvothe/Elodin. ^^ Heh.

Looking forward to WMF with ridiculus enthusiasm.

http://community.livejournal.com/thearcanum/

I was just directed to this post, and shall now be trawling around the portuguese bookstores looking for your book.

No, not *just* because you don't mind fanfiction written; the series was recommended by a great friend of mine with excellent taste in fantasy... But we both also love well-written fanfiction, and finding an author that doesn't mind even the yaoi/gay aspects of it is truly rare.

So instead of just downloading the book, I'll be buying it. :D

*squees*

Oh, I love fanfiction! I was actually on fanfiction.net the other day after reading this, and I figured I should see if there was a Name of the Wind section. There is! A couple people wrote short little stories under the Kingkiller Chronicle. I figured I'd tell you :)</>By the way, your book is honestly better than any that have ever come out. I think that, if people are at all intelligent, it will one day be more successful than Harry Potter, Twilight, and Lord of the Rings combined.</>...:)From Jazz

Like Alexis, I picked up your book because mostly because it had a potential slash implication, as well as it being fantasy...*coughs* I have to admit, though, I'm glad that you're okay with the whole yaoi thing and all. Personally, a lot of the fanfiction that I've read was slash, so...Besides, if people are writing slash fanfiction about your book, that means you've struck it big time. Lol.</></>When I read this, I almost laughed my head off. Because honestly, I've never heard of an author who looked up yaoi about his/her book. But I applaud you for that, because if you didn't, I would have never read that fanfic. :3</></>So good job and keep on writing! *gives thumbs-up* Until then, I'm going to be shuffling through Amazon for the next couple of months in hopes that your next book can be pre-ordered there.

Pat you broke my heart.</></>I found your amazing book on Friday (we wont go into the squeels of delight when I looked up after reading it) and can only say ....Do we REALLY have to wait till April?</>Still its not so far away for a sequel. And youre writing is more then worth it.</></>However....to also be willing and able to find amusement and compliment in yaoi fanfiction????</></>You are BRIALLIANT!</></>I followed the link laughing and have to admit it is fairly well done. Your comments and the following reply's were even more entertaining.</></>At least I know that while I am waiting for the next book, I can find just as much entertainment from your blog!</>Congrats on being one of the most amazing and open minded writers around!</>Joeline

*fangirl squeal*</></>I'm actually impressed and relieved by the quality of the fanfic. My heart starts crumbling when excellent books like yours become subjects of terribly written slash.</></>But in any case, congratulations, Pat. You're in the big time now, with JK Rowling and JRR Tolkien, lol.

Aw, what's with all the fanfic hate, you guys? You'll make us cry. :( We're having fun with things we love. I don't see how that's 'evil'. </></>Anyhow, you seem very cool, Mr Rothfuss, and since the post that linked me here called your book 'absolutely magnificent', I think I'll have to check it out.
