Take as long as you need mate I can wait as long as the book is as good as The name of the wind, been reading fantasy books for 30 years and I havnt read anything as good as the name of the wind in a long long time (probably had full head of hair at the time). Man, babies love those stuffed carrots.

My niece had one and never let it go. I saw how much she loved it and trying to win her heart with goodies I bought her an asparagus made by the same company.

I guess she already has an aversion to green veggies however. She doesn't like it.

To Anonymous - yes, I too was not trying to be snarky. Just making a point about the publishing/writing business (for it IS a business, afterall.) Of course Pat can handle his own. Nobody is questioning his manhood and ultimate coolness and badassery. Just helping make a point, hoping people may stop to reconsider a few things about why it may be taking so long. Things that, as was pointed out also, Pat has made clear in previous blogs. I mean no disrespect, certainly not to total strangers.

To Jake: my advise, finish the absolute glory that is Book 1, bask in it, love it, bask in it some more. Then set it down. Get a glass of water. Turn around, go back, open it back up to page 1 and start over. Reread the absolute glory that is book 1. Bask in it again. Repeat. Should help pass the time for book 2.

Or, you could check out some of Pat's older posts, wherein he does an amazing job of recommending some other books by great authors to help pass the time until book 2 is released. Authors like Joe Abercrombie, and Brandon Sanderson. You might check them out after finishing NOTW.

wouldn’t it be cool if writers had to do like trailers for their books? like you know movie trailers for movies that are coming out? like writers could release a certain amaount of excerpts and get pros to do awesome cyrptic art for whats coming up? that would be awesome

I’m with the folks who think an update is not unreasonable. I’m not trying to pressure Pat into speeding up his writing for us. Book two has to be at least as good as Book one after all, so it’s in our best interests if he takes as long as he needs. At the same time, the last update we heard was a year ago. When you’re waiting for something as awesome as Wise Man’s Fear, that’s a really long time. All I would request Pat to do is give us a little bit of a peek behind the curtains at how things stand and how much longer he thinks he might take. I reiterate, he absolutely HAS to take as much time as he needs or wants, but it would be really nice to know where the book is these days.

@the back and forth about book two
First let me say, people should be nice to each other. Hateful and insulting remarks beget a hateful and insulting environment, and that's not good for anyone. Moving past that though, I myself have been interested in hearing any kind of news about book two because I'm interested in hearing what Pat has to say about the progress he's made. I keep coming to check without asking just hoping that I can hear what he has to say about such things as book two. I'm a fan, and as such I am interested/invested in getting some kind of progress report(s) to help ease the wait. I'm a fan, and as such I have no desire to make Pat feel pressured to provide an answer. I don't think it's bad for us to let him know that a progress report(s) would be well received by us, the fans, though.
