Upcoming Events in Ohio and Cool News

So next week I’m going to be down in Ohio for a convention and a reading.

Here’s the straight skinny….

  • The Reading/Signing/Q&A.

The reading is Thursday the 13th at 7:00 at Beehive books in Delaware.

As with all of my events, I’ll show up, read some stuff, and answer any questions people might have.

And by “Answer questions” I mean that if you ask me a question, I will tell a rambling story that may in some way relate to the topic of your question.

Also, there will probably be some jokes. And maybe cussing. I also might sing.

After all that, I’ll sign books until everyone has as many books signed as they want to have signed. Books.

If you can’t make it to the signing, you might want to consider stopping by….

  • The Convention.

I’m GOH this year at Origins. It’s in Columbus, and runs from the June 12th to the 16th.

We’re trying something new at this convention. Since I’m Guest of Honor and all, we’re going to have a booth in the dealer’s hall.

That means that if you want to buy a Kingkiller t-shirt, you can swing by the booth and get one. Want a Draccus poster? You can swing by the booth and grab one. Set of Talent Pipes? Same thing.

Really, pretty much anything that normally shows up in The Tinker’s Packs, you can swing by the booth and grab it there with the added bonus of not having to pay shipping costs.

And it’s possible we’ll have some *new* stuff there that isn’t available at all in the store. Cool stuff. Secret-y stuff….

As always, proceeds go to Worldbuilders.

What’s more, I’ll be hanging out at the booth to sign books and meet people, too.

If you’re not normally a convention-type person, Origins does something pretty cool They offer a day pass on Saturday so people can come in and wander around the show. It costs just 10 bucks for a person, or 15 bucks for your whole family. You have access to *most* of the convention, and you get free run of the dealer’s hall, can play game demos, and stuff like that.

So even if you don’t want to hit the whole con, you could still stop by and see me at my booth, get a book signed and hang out for a bit.

Details about the day pass are here.

My Convention Schedule:

  • Thursday, June 13

11:00-12:00 – Crafting the Love Scene – Library Room B (C223)

1:00-3:00 Signing and hanging out at my booth.

  • Friday, June 14

12:00-1:00  Sexism: How Much is Too Much? – Library Room A (C222)

1:00-2:30 Signing and hanging out at my booth.

3:00-4:00 Q&A with Patrick Rothfuss – Library Room A (C222)

5:00 – 6:00 Signing and hanging out at the booth.

  • Saturday, June 15

11:00-12:00 – Writing the Trilogy- Library Room A (C222)

12:00 – 2:00 Signing and hanging out at the booth.

6:00-8:00  – Group Reading – Library Room B (C223)

  • Sunday, June 16

1:00 – 2:00 – Writing Your First Novel – Library Room A (C222)

2:30 – 4:00 Signing and hanging out at the booth.

Keep in mind I might be at the Tinker’s Pack booth at other times, but those are the times I’ll *absolutely* be available for signing books and whatnot….

Hope to see some of you there.

My Kickstarter blew through the 160K stretch goal I mentioned on the blog earlier this week.

We crushed it, in fact. So soon you’ll be seeing a video of me singing a certain song.

8c5ff84de9979c8764415603a720699f_large

But there’s bigger news than that. We’re closing in on 300K right now, and we’ve put up and knocked off a *lot* of new stretch goals.

So if you haven’t looked at the Kickstarter in the last 24 hours, you might want to go over there and take a peek.

I’ll talk about that news in more detail in just a couple days.

Also, if you want to see Shane and I work on some of the art for the deck in a live video chat, we’ll be doing that tomorrow afternoon. Look for the hangout link on facebook.

South Jersey please!! I would love to have you sign my books. And you could meet my son jack! He’s almost two! And I plan on reeding him most of your work soon.

Let’s not start that here, okay? I like to think of my blog as an oasis of gentility and calm in the vast desert of internet bullshit.

Fair warning, I am totally geeking out over the fact that I am able to go to Origins and see you! If you see a lady about your age who is unable to make coherent sentences because she is excited, and is with her lovely teenage daughter, it will be me, and all I want is an autograph and a picture!

Great news about the kickstarter and I see that you’ve enlisted Felicia Day to lend her likeness as well.
As for the con, I guess I’ll catch you next time you’re in Europe. Still, thanks for the headsup.
Oh and “[…] if you ask me a question, I will tell a rambling story that may in some way relate to the topic of your question.” that is the best way to go about things. Nobody really expects an answer to their question, everyone just wants to hear a story :)

While I adore Felicia Day, she seems a stronger person (both physically and of personality) than how I pictured Auri.
Auri I think, has that super-fine strawberry blonde hair and a waifish appearance… I pictured someone more like Emily Mortimer (if she were strawberry blonde).
Felicia Day as Devi seems better to me… In any case, I look forward to seeing the results.

But Neil Gaiman as Elodin… Nailed it!

    Hi Pat,
When will you post more info about the event in Brighton? I looked at the website for it and there does not seem to be much info there. I was planning on driving down from Glasgow :)

Yeah. I’ll post more about that as it gets closer….

So the Kickstarter has passed the $300,000 stretch goal, so that means you’ll be recording a video of you reading The Adventures of The Princess and Mr. Wiffle to your son. I have to ask, have you read this to him before? I mainly wonder, because I love watching people read my copy of the book and watch their facial expressions. The last few pages are generally a riot to observe. I’m just curious how a three year old reacts to it.

    • Posted June 7, 2013 at 12:05 PM | Permalink

I’ve read it to him before…. but only up to the first ending.

I’m not sure if I’ll read him more than that this time around….

As I chase my 9-month-old around the house trying to keep this and that out of his grasp, it occurs to me that an even better stretch goal would be if Oot crushed everything. Not that we should market our children or anything…

My hubs and I are thrilled to meet you at Origins! I’m still trying to come up with a good question for the Q and A on Friday… maybe “Why did you ruin fantasy for me by writing the best book ever?! Nothing can compare! *faints dramatically*” Okay, mostly kidding… but seriously excited! I may or may not be dressed as Super Leia, so keep an eye out for the buns.

*sigh*stupid Kickstarters, you, sir, are going to make me spend all my graduation money. Though I suppose the Metheglin recipe will be worth it! Where will that come in by the way? Will you post it or will it be printed on one of the cards?

Mead recipe–yes! With instructions/advice, please? This will allow me to convert the almost 4 gallons of local honey I have into lovely parting gifts as I uproot my family and move to Portland, Oregon. I’ve been giving away jars of honey, but mead sounds like more fun.

(I like to buy honey straight from the beekeeper and honey never goes bad, so I bought the biggest container, a 5 gallon bucket. I did this for the first time in 2001 and that honey lasted for maybe 10 years. Needless to say, I wasn’t planning on moving in 2013.)

Same question here, actually. NoTW was a big inspiration to my first simple brew of mead, started a little over a year ago and, last I checked it, starting to really develop in flavor.

But I really want Pat’s metheglin recipe. The flavor description was so vivid I couldn’t imagine that it wasn’t a real recipe in Pat’s head. So Pat — if you ever come back and re-read comments, was the 220k stretch goal “mindbender mead” intended to be a buy-up add on, or printed on the side with each deck?

We’re going to give it away to everyone involved. Maybe I’ll post it on the blog. I’m really not sure yet, as we’re scrambling to keep up with things right now at the end of the kickstarter.

So by the time I read the first post about the kickstarter on Tuesday, it had already passed the $160,000 goal…
And by the time I read this post today, it was quickly closing in on $320,000.
Mr. Rothfuss, all I can say is, thank goodness you seem intent on using your powers for good.

    Hiya Pat,
I happily pledged to get some of the awesome swag on kickstarter.
    Thank you for the goodies.
    Question:
One of the items in my kit a t-shirt.
How do I choose what size T-shirt I get?
I dont see any options for that in, on or around Kickstarter.
    Thanks again

I was so happy to see your video of singing “I crush everything”. You’re voice is wonderful. It reminds me of my grandfather. A little folksy, and little shy. It was a mesmerizing experience. Thank you so much. And I was happy to see the tail of a dragon behind you! Good to know he was watching with me.

WHHHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHY PAT, WHY!? Why did you choose the dates 30 October- 3 November for your single trip to the UK? Those are the dates that I’m going on a cern trip, via my school. My very soul is torn asunder, two desires colliding with each other, with me trapped in between :( Sod’s law, huh Pat? Can you at least say what time you will leave on the third? If so, I may be able to catch you, by hook or by crook.

The night I read that you would be in Deleware where I would be able to come hear you in person I was so excited I could not sleep, and when I did, my dreams were full of Pat engaged in an epic fantasy writing battle. Allow me to explain. The same night that I read the wonderful news I could actually hear THE Patrick Rothfuss in person I also just finished the wonderful second tale of the Malazon Book of the Fallen by Steven Erickson. This collision of events somehow triggered within my oft busy dream state full of wonderful adventures a meeting between Patrick and Steven where they seriously resorted to name calling and eventually a mage duel with quills as their wands. I am not making this up. I wish I could remember more but it was the most fun dream I can remember in a very very long time.

Wish I could make it to Origins. I’ll catch up to you at one of these things someday. I’ve had a great time with the NotW Kickstarter. I’m gonna be bummed when it’s over. I’ve had fun watching the project grow.
I did want to say it was generous of you to make yourself available to your fans over Father’s Day weekend. But, I can tell you are doing the Dad thing right, so every day is really Father’s Day, right?
