Shows in Portland and Seattle & Emerald City Comic Con

Heya folks,

I’m currently in Germany, having a grand ole time. It’s a real sausage party around here.

And I mean that in a good way. I brought the family with me to Germany, and during one of our first meals here, we ordered Oot a meal called “The Sausage Pan” which had four different types of German sausage.

Personally, I was just playing the odds. I figured that if there were four different types of sausage there, the odd were good that he’d like one of them. And I would eat the rest. Because I’m the dad, and that’s one of the perks of being the dad.

But they showed up skewered on a tiny miniature sword, which Oot thought was pretty cool. And it turns out he liked *all* the sausages, which shouldn’t surprise me, as to him they were pretty much all different types of hot dog.

Halfway through the meal he said, “This is the best meal I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.”

So there you go.

*     *     *

I’ve got a couple cool events coming up in the near future, and while I’ve posted them up on facebook and twitter, I’ve been remis about putting them up here on the blog.

First and best, I’ve got two shows coming up with the ever-awesome Paul and Storm.

PandS-classy

I’ve done events with them before, and I enjoy it more and more every time.

But this time there’s something extra cool included in the show. We’re having a superhero team up with Joel Hodgson, best known for Mystery Science Theater 3000, but also an inventor, comedian, and all-around cool guy.

I’m really excited to do a show with him. And by “excited” I mean “kind of intimidated because I’ve been watching his work for more than a decade.”

So yeah, it’s going to be a great show. It will probably be worth the price of admission just to watch me actively repress my freak-out at sharing a stage with Joel.

Wish I could claim this as my work, but it isn’t. I’m just a fan of the art sharing it around.

Oh my gosh, it kills me that you’re coming to my town the week I’m out of town. The elder gods are against me!

Have a great show. I’m sure it will be amazing fun for everyone.

So I get that Caesura is LITERALLY thee patient cut-flower sound, but nothing more. Which would make Saicere literally a silence barrier holding the other silences in them, “like a glove”. Man I love your unique ability to give us two names to let us know there is literally two functions to the sword.

Also, Does Tehlu mean “The law”?

Only Pat can really answer for the translation for Tehlu, but the Department of Imaginary Linguistics’ best guess is “first lock”. We know that the rune ‘Teh’ means ‘lock’ from Kvothe’s study of syaldry (NotW Ch 51). The first day of a span is Luten, while the seventh day is Chaen. We know Chan/Chaen means seven because of the Chandrian (“the Seven”), so it makes sense for the first seven days of a span to be named after numbers. This makes ‘Lu’ some variant of one or first. Teh-lu= “first lock” or “locked first”

I could see how he could make “the law” a red herring or even just a dual meaning. However, why make Alaxel mean “lord, protector of the world” then?

O M G. I looked at it differently just now. Is Caesura a God sword? In the sense that if it were literally the break in the line of verse than it would be the indrawn breath or the wind or the spirit(Aleph – the letter A in come alphebets). If the third silence was his then the a in Caesura would signify that he owned the spirit of god – Caesura. Thus, the patient cut-flower sound of a man waiting to die would come from Aleph wanting to die? hahahaha, please tell me I’m not going crazy.

I saw you in Reutlingen yesterday and had a blast! Thanks again for coming to Germany (on a craazy busy book tour – I suspect this takes a huge amount if energy – so props for that!). I had to split after the show because of the long signing line and a busy workday thw following morning. So since I couldnt tell you in person: Thanks for doing Torment: Tides of Numenera.

This former resident of “the only Waunakee in the world” is looking forward to the Portland show!

My family will be out of town, so maybe I’ll even brave the lines to say hi in person. I’ll have to think of something interesting to sign. . . and to gift.

Hmmm, maple bacon popcorn, chocolate chip cookies, how about lemon curd? I could gift you with some salt preserved lemons, but that’s very “Portlandia,” and only interesting to a cook, I think.

They should have used Auri for the Cage Match.. She is more powerful than Felurian and the lack of faith in her state of mind would put an edge on her winning. Moreso than a demigod(kidding) walking to the end of the finish-line. Then we could watch the author mess up things and think
Foxen is just like Sabriels Cat. lol.

“Then Foxen struck a single beam of true light into the heart of Death!

All Death could do was stand, disbelieving. It was as if the Sun had reached out and clutched at her heart. The shadow that hung all around Death like a cloak fled in terror. “How did she….” she thought.

Auri’s shone no expression. Standing opposite Death, opposite Black Door, Auri closed her eyes. She drew her shoulders back. She took a slow and steady breathe. There was a tension in the air. A weight. A wait. There was no wind. She did not speak. The world grew stretched and tight. Auri drew a breathe and opened her eyes. Auri was Urchin small. Her tiny feet upon the stone were bare. Auri stood, and in the circle of her golden hair she grinned and brought the weight of her desire full upon Death. All things shook. All things knew her will. And all things bent to please her.

Black Door opened inviting Death. Death Accepted.

A bit off topic but this has lodged itself in my head.

There’s this short sad song by Tom McRae called Opposite of Love and in my mind I can imagine it’s something Denna might sing about Kvothe.

    The Lyrics are,

    “Every moment, has it’s opposite
For this moment, I have you
And I am not, the kind who cries
At situations of my own design

So if I’m with you, I can be without you
And if I kiss you, the kisses will end
And if I hold you, tomorrow will be colder
If I remember, I’m going to forget

    Every moment, has its opposite
And I love you, what’s its opposite?
Yeah I love you, what’s its opposite?
Yeah I love you, what’s its opposite?”

You can listen to it here.
    http://tommcrae.bandcamp.com/album/the-streetlight-collection

I think the song is a great expression of not admitting you’re in love with someone because of the full extent of harm doing so can then lead to, and the pain of having something that good and then to lose it is worse than not having it at all.

It’s a short song with a deep meaning to it, I feel the Adem would appreciate it. If it wasn’t a song that is!

But that just my opinion :)

What do you think about Mumford & Sons as Edema Ruh band? They’d do Lay of Sir Savien Ballad so good. Their the perfect growl I see Kvothe in Kvothe’s voice when he sings emotional songs..
