My Far Travels: PAX South

Heya Folks,

Just so y’all get an official heads-up, I’m going to be swinging by PAX South again this year. (For those of you who don’t already know, it’s this upcoming weekend, from the 12th-14th in San Antonio.)

Last year was the first time I made it down there, and I had a pretty good time. This year looks to be even better, because in addition to all the regular convention goodness, this year PAX South is also hosting True Dungeon, which is doing two runs based off my books.

((If you haven’t guessed, one of the runs features Felurian. And Bast.))

For those of you who have never experienced it, True Dungeon is some geek fun of the highest order. It’s one part puzzle room, one part tabletop D&D, with a little bit of LARP thrown in for seasoning.

I’ve been playing it for years now at Gencon. I’ve been hooked ever since I did a run with Wil Wheaton way back in the day.

Simply said, there are lots of rooms with puzzles, monsters, and obstacles that you need to solve, kill, and/or traverse. Honestly, True Dungeon is one of my favorite parts about going to GenCon these days, and I’m thrilled that they’re finally expanding it out to more conventions over these last couple years.

As I mentioned before, this year’s games are based in Temerant (My world.) I helped write and design the adventures, and they’re chock-full of creatures and lore from the books. Some of which hasn’t even shown up yet anywhere other than my own head.

Some of the treasure and equipment tokens might look familiar to you, too.

(I’m pretty fond of the Greysdale mead Treasure Token.)

If you’re still not convinced, there’s going to be a free 24-minute demo being run (if you get in line and wait your turn) so you can test things out. If you end up liking it (you will), or you know you want in, you can buy tickets for the full two-hour adventure.

Every year at GenCon, True Dungeon tickets sell out weeks and weeks before the event. But since this is their first year at PAX South, there’s still a few spots available. If you want to grab a ticket, click here. If you’re interested in volunteering or participating in another way, check out their website for more info.

Beyond True Dungeon, I’ll be around doing a few other cool things during the con. All of the time listed below are in Central Standard Time, which is relevant since a couple of my events will be livestreamed as well…

Friday, January 12

  • 6pm-8pm: Acquisitions Incorporated Autograph Session, Signing Area
  • 8pm-9pm: An Evening with Pat Rothfuss, Falcon Theatre

My Evening with Pat Rothfuss events are always a little bit hard to describe. I do some rambling, take questions from the audience, tell anecdotes only mildly related to the questions, and occasionally give Amanda heart attacks if she’s backstage while I expound on the societal pressures of monogamy or something like that.

She won’t be there this time, but since this event will be livestreamed on the PAX2 Twitch channel, we’ll probably feel her cringing from 1,300 miles away while she watches.

Saturday, January 13

  • 2pm-5pm: Acquisitions Incorporated, Main Theatre

Acquisitions Inc is why I go to so many PAX events. I love playing D&D with this group, and being Viari gives me an excuse to say dumb shit like “What Ho!” a lot.

This is being streamed on the main PAX Twitch channel, so you can watch as I swing from chandeliers live.

Sunday, Jan 14

  • 3pm-5pm: Pat Rothfuss Autograph Session, Signing Area

The folks at Table Titans are going to be here selling books for my signing, but if you can’t make it to this, they’ll also be selling books and Pinny Pins at their booth, # 10436.

* * * *

So that’s the schedule, folks. You’ll likely catch me around other places, and I’m definitely going to watch the Acquisitions Incorporated C-Team game as well (Sunday the 13th at 12pm CST, livestreamed right here), so if C-Team is your jam you might want to see that one as well.

Hope to see you there…

JoCo Cruise 2018

Those of you who follow me on social media probably know that for the last several years, I’ve been a part of the JoCo Cruise. What’s more, over the last couple years, they’ve brought on Worldbuilders as their official charity, and they donate a portion of the proceeds every year. (More on that later, for those of you who are fans of Worldbuilders.)

For those of you who don’t know, (and why would you, because I haven’t ever written a blog about it, though I’ve meant to for years) JoCo Cruise is kinda like a convention, except it’s on a cruise ship. So you can go to a panel about writing, go to workshop about game design, then go and drink rum out of an actual Pineapple on a beach. Or go snorkling. Or sit by the pool. Or go listen to some live music. Or hang out with your fellow geeks and play games. By the pool, at the bar. With, and I cannot stress this enough, rum.

If that wasn’t cool enough, last year the cruise took over the *entire* boat. So not only are there no normal cruise-goers giving us the side-eye. But we have full control over all the event spaces, so the amount of programming has become truly insane.

You can see the full schedule from last year right here, just so you know the scale of what I’m talking about.

joco-fun-times

(Some of the guests from a previous cruise.)

This year is only going to be bigger and better, and booking has been going on for a while now.

It’s a chunk of change. But if you’re in the habit of going to conventions, you know that after you factor in hotel rooms, taxis, all your meals, badges, and extra events, you can easily spend as much as the cruise just attending a 4 day convention. More if it’s a convention like San Diego Comic con…

And this cruise isn’t just four days. It’s a 7-night, 8-day trip, with stuff going on literally at all hours. And the price includes all the JoCo Cruise events, 24 hour room service, all your onboard meals, use of the onboard gym, etc etc.

  • But Pat, I hear you say, “What sort of things happen on the cruise?”

Honestly? So much stuff. It’s almost ridiculous to try to mention all of it.

There’s performances every night. Dozens of musicians. Last year there were some cool magicians I’ve since seen on TV. Last year we had Nightvale on board, and I participated in one of their shows.

I myself usually do some panels, some readings, some performances.

Well, there’s usually a fair number of podcast recordings, like the one I did with Max last year…

This year, I’ve let Paul and Storm know that I want to sing at least once…. So there will be that train wreck to watch as well…

Tak made its debut on the Cruise, and was first playtested there. This year Travis McElroy is going to be there. So I’m guessing we’ll have some fun and games with him. And some D&D if I have anything to say about it…

There are things like the Gaming Room and Library, where you can settle in and play a board game with anyone who happens to pass by.

There’s concerts every night that have performers like The Doubleclicks, Paul & Storm, Jonathan Coulton, and so many more.

(Jean Grey here. I became a fan of hers *because* I saw her on the cruise.)

And, I mean, you’re on a CRUISE.

IMG_20170306_102807

For those of you curious about the price, here’s someone’s complete breakdown of all of the costs associated with this trip:

“But Pat!” I hear you cry. “The cruise isn’t until February, why would I want to book so soon?”

Well, there are a few reasons…

First of all the sooner you book, the more options you get for booking your cabins. Actual cabin placement is made in order of booking, with preference for folks who have booked early.

There’s also a “Refer a Friend” program where folks who already booked on the 2018 cruise can refer a friend. When both of them make their booking they’ll each receive a $125 onboard credit to their accounts, which they can use for fancy food, adult beverages, or buying merch and swag in the stores onboard. You can read up on the full info here, but it’s a limited time offer, so book soon.

If you don’t already have a friend sailing on board, there’s another special opportunity you can take advantage of: the Worldbuilders Charity Booking.

If you enter the offer code “worldbuilders” when booking a new cabin, two things will happen:

  1. Worldbuilders will receive a $250 donation on your behalf
  2. Everyone in your booking will have guaranteed attendance at a special onboard meetup with me.

This doesn’t count if you make a booking and cancel, obviously, and there’s a couple of other rules and restrictions as well (all of which you can read here) but once again, it’s a limited time offer, so if you’re hoping to get in on this one you should book now.

There’s also ALSO a Child discount of $250 per child under the age of 3 (at the time of sailing). That’s gonna be true the whole time, but it was still worth noting. I almost always bring my boys, and it’s a ton of fun to have them there. Oot wants nothing more than to spend as much time as humanly possible in the on-ship pool.

Anyway, there’s a whole bunch of options, all broken down on their Pricing Page, but, as with everything, the sooner you book, the better off you are.

So… yeah. There’s a reason I go on this every year. It’s a lot of fun.

One thing I learned in working with Nerdcon is that no matter how cool something is, there’s no guarantee it’s going to last forever. So if you’ve been thinking about it for a while, maybe jump in and try it this year.

Here’s the booking link one more time.

Hope to see some of you there,

pat

The book has improved, cleaned up text. An introduction, an author’s note (by me), pronunciation guide, and several appendixes about things like the currency systems, the calendar, the Aturan Empire, etc etc.

That’s all the planned events for now. Sorry if I’m not hitting your hometown, but there’s only so much touring I can do at this point.

If I’m not coming to your neck of the woods, you should contact your local bookstore and pre-order one. (It might work better than just showing up and hoping they have it in stock.) Sometimes bookstores don’t realize how many of you there are, and how enthusiastic y’all are….

Anyway. It’s super late right now. And I’m pretty tired. I need to get to bed.

I’ll see some of you soon….

Upcoming Events: Madison, Amarillo, and GenCon

Hey there everybody,

This year, I’ve been making a point of cutting down on convention travel a bit. (Already so far I’ve passed on Emerald City and PAX East and Phoenix comic-con, all of which I hit last year and really enjoyed.) Part of this is to make room in my schedule for the inevitable trips to LA, because of Kingkiller adaptation stuff. But I’m also trying to cut down on conventions so I can get more work done, and try get my life back into some semblance of order.

That said, I have some events coming up soon, specificially:

  • July 20: Madison, Wisconsin

Lots of you probably know Kevin Hearne. He’s been a friend, colleague, and frequent contributor to Worldbuilders for ages now.

He released the latest book in the Iron Druid Chronicles series last week, and in the process of touring all over the place, he’s swinging by my hometown: Madison. And invited me to be part of his event.

So the two of us will be at the Madison Central Library at 7:00. We’ll be talking, reading, answering questions, telling stories, and just generally having a good time with the audience. Afterwards, we’ll be signing books.

I’m really looking forward to this, as I haven’t done an event in Madison for a while, to say nothing of the fact that Kevin is delightful, and it will be nice to do something like this with a partner, which isn’t something I’ve done much of before.

What’s more, Kevin has teamed up with The Tinker’s Packs to produce and sell merchandise based on his books.

Since we have all of this cool stuff, and because Madison is close to home for the Worldbuilders crew, we’re going to have these things available for sale at the signing (in addition to the books provided by A Room of One’s Own bookstore). There’ll also be some of my merch there, like Tak, window clings, Pinny pins, and the scents based off of characters from my books.

Here’s all of the info to get you to the event:

July 20, 2017 at 7:00 PM
Madison Central Library, Madison Room
201 W. Mifflin St.
Madison WI 53703
Facebook Event

  • August 5: Amarillo, Texas

In a couple weeks I’ll be spending the day at AMA-Con, the pop-culture con run by the Amarillo Public Library.

I’ve not been shy about my love for libraries, and the fact that this group has been running a cool local convention for so many years warms my bitter old heart.

Here’s my full schedule for the day:

12:00-1:00 PM: Autograph Signing
1:30-2:30 PM: Speech with Q&A
3:00-4:30 PM: Writing Panel
5:00-6:00 PM: Autograph Signing

I’ll update with room numbers once I have them, but it’s worth noting that it’s a 2-day con, and even if all of my stuff is on day one, you should consider swinging by and checking it out for the full event. Tickets are $5 for one day, or $8 for both, which is straight-up CRAZY cheap. So if you’re in the neighbourhood, there’s really no reason not to stop by….

  • August 17-20: GenCon in Indianapolis, Indiana

GenCon is one of my favorite cons. In fact, it’s the *only* convention I ever went to back when I was a kid.

This year is special for a couple reasons. especially since it’s the 50th year.

As you may have heard, this year’s True Dungeon adventures are a teamup with me, so everyone who plays will get to play in my world, even potentially meeting up with some characters from the books.

If that sounds like fun, there are two different adventures you can play, and over 800 opportunities to do so, but tickets go quickly, so check them out over here: http://bit.ly/2r0ncEu

Here’s everything I’m doing at the con far…

Thursday, August 17

12pm-2pm: Signing in the Exhibit Hall. Tickets are required, and unfortunately they’re all gone.

5pm-7pm: An Evening with Pat Rothfuss, Ballroom (tickets encouraged, since those with tickets will be let in first): https://www.gencon.com/events/121259

7pm-8pm: Writer’s Craft: How to Find Your Voice, Capital 1. Tickets available here.

Friday, August 18

10am-11am: Writer’s Craft: Getting it Right–The Role of Research, Capital 1. Tickets available here.

1pm-5pm: Worldbuilders Party Fundraiser, Tickets available here.

This is a fundraising party for Worldbuilders where you can buy tickets to play games with all sorts of awesome people. We’ve tried out parties like this at Emerald City Comic Con, and they were awesome, so we’ve extended them to GenCon too.

I’ll be playing King of Tokyo with 7 other people, but I’m not the only one you can play with. You can play games like Citadels, Exploding Kittens, Lords of Waterdeep, and Mysterium with awesome folks. There aren’t a ton of tickets left, so be sure to read up and see if you’re game.

The full guest list is visible at the Worldbuilders Party website, and you can buy tickets for the fundraiser on the GenCon website right here.

Saturday, August 19

12pm-1pm: Writer’s Craft, Resolving Tension while Holding Interest, Capital 1

2pm-4pm: Signing in the Exhibit Hall. Ticketed event.

*New* 8pm-9pm: Adapting Characters into Art with Echo Chernik, Capital 1. Tickets available here.

I’ll also be around and about at the con itself, visiting the Worldbuilders Booth (number 368, directly across from Badali Jewelry Specialties), swinging by the Tak Tournament, and just generally amusing myself and having a good time.

Right now it’s looking like the tickets for the signings are going fast. So I’m going to see if we can do something about that. Stay tuned here for details…

* * * *

There you have it folks. It’s gonna be a busy couple of weeks, and there’s more in store that we haven’t even talked about yet.

I’ll be announcing my other convention appearances here soon, along with details about my upcoming signing tour.

So stay tuned,

pat

Five Sentences, Three Events, Two Videos, and a Bag of Chips….

Heya everybody,

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to get a solid blog up, so I thought I’d remedy that today, especially as there’s some news that’s a little time sensitive….

First and foremost, I’ve got a few readings and Q&As coming up in places I don’t visit very often.

  • Charleston, West Virginia

This Saturday (October 29th) I’ll be in West Virginia for the West Virginia Book Festival.

I’m going to be giving a talk on the importance of reading. (Where hopefully I’ll find something to say other than just shouting DUH! really loud.) I’ll also do some Q&A, and then have a signing for everyone who’s interested.

And if that isn’t enough for you, I’ll even be introduced by Justin McElroy, West Virginian and co-host of the awesome podcast “My Brother, My Brother, and Me.” It’s one of my newest loves, and if you don’t listen to it, you should. It is a source of genuine delight.

Here’s all the info for the event itself:

October 29, 2016 at 3:00 PM
Charleston Civic Center
Little Theater
200 Civic Center Dr
Charleston, West Virginia 25301
Facebook Event

If you’re in the area, come say hi. And if you happen to be in a different area…

  • Madison, Wisconsin

Despite the fact that I only live a hundred miles away, I’m doing my first event in Madison in years. Even better, I’ll actually be doing *two* different events, both with some Q&A and books available for purchase, though the first is primarily a reading and Q&A, and the second is primarily a keynote speech.

The first one is next week Thursday…

November 3, 2016 at 5:00 PM
Reading and Q&A
Agriculture Hall, Room 125
1450 Linden Dr
Madison, WI 53706

And the second is going to be on Friday night…

MADISON, WI
November 4, 2016 at 7:00 PM
Talk and Q&A
272 Bascom Hall
Madison, WI 53706

Both events will have books for purchase from A Room of One’s Own, one of my favorite bookstores in Madison. So if you’re all signed-book-wanty, this would be a great place to get one without paying shipping costs from our online store

For those of you who aren’t in West Virginia OR Wisconsin, there’s some cool internet things I’ve been up to as well….

  • Moana Screening in New York

And a couple weeks ago, his happened. For real.

I’ll probably gush about this more in the future. But the short of it is that I got to see an early version of Moana, and it was stunningly good.

More than that. Honestly? I think it might be the best Disney movie I’ve ever seen. Though honestly, with Lin Manuel Miranda involved, that shouldn’t really be a surprise.

Super good, folks. Seriously.

  • Podcast: “I’m Not Here to Judge You Chickenf*ckers.”

The most recent episode of Unattended Consequences is up, and it was a pretty good one. We recorded it live at NerdCon: Stories,  and the audience did a good job reining us in. We even said some not entirely stupid things.

Give it a listen if you’re so inclined. And be aware some of the stories I don’t have time to write up on the blog these days end up on the Podcast instead.

And finally, here’s the most time sensitive of the announcements:

  • A  delightful kickstarter that will help you friendship better.

Yesterday, I agreed to write five cards for Jenn and Trin’s Friendship Postcards Kickstarter Project:

You should really check this out. It’s a wonderful idea. The campaign includes cards like “Wow, that thing you did to your hair is super cool!”, “You make the internet a happier place,” and my favorite, “I said some shitty things (That’s not really how I feel, and I’m sorry.)”

782a6bde35266775fcadc2a84c8a34d3_originalWhen I saw this project, I actually emailed Trin and Jenn to tell them they were awesome, and to offer my help if they needed it.

I don’t talk about it a lot on here. But I have a hard time making and maintaining friendships these days. It used to be so easy for me. You just met people, they came over to your house. You watched movies and played games. You were friends.

Then I got published. I got busy. My friends moved away to pursue jobs and relationships. And I wasn’t in college any more. Wasn’t teaching any more. Wasn’t meeting people socially any more. Which means that friends don’t just happen to me any more. Which means… for about a decade now, I really haven’t had a lot of close friends.

But this last year, I’ve made a really good friend by the name of Thera. She’s better at being a friend than I am. And she’s taught me a lot about how to be a good friend as an adult (As opposed to just being a sort of an older maladjusted post-collegiate manbaby.)

So we’re writing these cards together. Me and my friend. Not only does this make me happy. Not only does this mean they’ll be better than if I did them myself. But it also means they’ll probably get done on time….

Here’s the downside, the project ends Thursday, October 27 at 1:00 PM CDT.

Yeah. Today. There’s just a few hours left. So if you want a set of postcards you should hop to it.

Be good to each other,

pat

On The Horizon: NerdCon Stories 2016

Hey there everybody,

Some of you may remember a little thing we did last year called NerdCon: Stories.

NerdConSome of you might remember because I wrote a blog about it. Others of you might remember because you actually came to the event.

For the rest of you: Nerdcon is a convention I started with Hank Green and his team. We wanted to start a new convention that focuses on storytelling in all its forms.

And so we did.

And I’m not going to lie to you, it was pretty great.

We brought in podcasters, musicians, poets, authors, puppeteers, and talked to all of them about stories, audience, genre, and more.

nerd con puppets

(If you’re wondering what’s going on in this photo, that’s fair. You kinda had to be there.)

There were panels and discussions. There were puppet shows. There were presentations and plays and signings and hugs. And kind of a surprising number of games. Some folks played Superfight, and I ran a game of The Extrordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, which you can watch in it’s fullness right here.

We also had a debate based on the continued shame I have to deal with because my son puts on his socks and shoes by doing it sock-shoe, sock-shoe, rather than sock-sock shoe-shoe, as god intended.

We had panels about storytelling through song, podcasting, and performance. There were panels for fandoms, and about movie adaptations. We talked about diversity, activism, and sex in stories. There was singing and dancing and poetry and a birthday party.

nerd con hank music performance

Tons of these were filmed, and you can see them on NerdCon’s YouTube channel, or listen to the rest on their podcast.

There was a Giant squid from the Cephalopodcast. He was hanging out with Joseph Fink from Welcome to Nightvale. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

nerd con giant squid

Except it isn’t once-in-a-lifetime. We’re doing it again this year, only bigger and better.

conventioncenter

(But in the same beautiful space)

This year we’re bringing in even more guests. There will be live podcast recordings, workshops on copyright, improv, and game design. Panels about art, self promotion, and mental health.

The exhibitor’s hall is even bigger than last year, with more vendors. The Worldbuilders Team is going to be there again, too. Rocking the booth and having an awesome time.

And I’ll be there too. I’ll be on panels and playing games. I’ll be talking about stories. I’ll be recording my podcast with Max live at the Show.

The full schedule is available for perusal right here, and it’s packed with amazing stuff.

*     *     *

I’ll be honest with you folks. I’m super proud of this convention. Last year people came up to me and told me that it was the best convention they’d ever been too. One person told me that it was the best time she’d ever had in her life.

The chatter on twitter was pretty flattering, too. Here’s one tweet that particularly warmed my heart.

I’m cutting down on conventions next year. I’m getting too busy, and I don’t like being away from my kids. But this con is something special. We built it to be welcoming and warm. We hand selected the guests to be clever and funny and kind.

Best of all, this convention is small enough that I actually get to hang out with people. It’s not just a seething mass of bodies like San Diego or NyCC. So if you’re looking to catch me at a convention and hear me talk about stories, games, and life in general, this is the place to do it.

The convention is October 14-15, and you should get your tickets soon. It’s a comparatively small convention, so it’s possible that tickets might sell out if you wait too long.

You can get your tickets here.

I hope to see some of you soon,

pat

P.S. If you came to the convention last year, could you share how you felt about it in the comments below? It’s kinda *my* convention, so of course I’m fond of it. It’s like my baby. But the testimonial of people who were actually there tends to be a little more unbiased, and therefore it carries a more weight than mine….

Pat at PAX

Hey everyone, Amanda here! As has become tradition, I’ve hijacked the blog to let you know about Pat’s schedule at a con, this time PAX West.

PAX West is one of the cons Pat almost always hits, primarily because there’s usually a live game of Acquisitions Incorporated, the D&D campaign run by Chris Perkins for Jerry Holkins, Mike Krahulik, Scott Kurtz, and Pat.

He’s also usually there because we’ve started making Pinny Arcade collectible pins, like the Eolian Talent Pipes, and the What Ho! pin.

IMG_20160831_091901

We’ve got folks selling these pins for us, but what I’m most excited for is that PAX is where we’ll be debuting our next Pinny pin, the Domesticated Owlbear.

image1

He was designed by the beloved John Kovalic, who also designed our Domesticated Owlbear plushie (which we’re very nearly out of, by the way).

It’s being released for the first time here, and we’ll have it (and our other pins) at a few different places:

  • The Cards Against Humanity Room, ACT Theater in the Convention Center. What Ho!, Talent Pipes, and Owlbear pins will all be at their table.
  • Table Titans Booth, 3rd Floor Lobby Atrium. What Ho! and Owlbear pins will all be at their table.

If you’re not familiar with the Pinny Arcade phenomenon, there’s a whole community aspect to it. You buy a few of your favorite pins. Grab yourself a Pinny Arcade trading lanyard, and walk around the con looking for other folks with lanyards. If they have pins on their lanyard, those pins are up for trade. Start talking. Trade pins. Profit.

It’s a seriously fun way to get to know some like-minded folks amid the whirlwind of PAX, and the Domesticated Owlbear pin is sure to catch some eyes. He’s just so CUTE.

There will also be some pins and copies of The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle available at Pat’s signing, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start at the very beginning:

Thursday, September 1st

PAX West doesn’t officially start until Friday, but PAX Dev, a bonus 2-day event for game developers, runs on Wednesday and Thursday, and Pat’s participating in one of the panels for that.

  • 5pm-6pm: Lightning Round: 15 Talks in 90 Minutes, Westin Grand III

A bunch of game designers (like Mike Selinker, Paul Peterson, and Liz Spain) and some special mystery guests are each going to be given 5 minutes to rant, pontificate, or otherwise expound on a subject of their choosing.

It’s going to be a whirlwind of information, and we all know that Pat is able to talk at length about almost anything, so it’s guaranteed to be interesting.

CTC+view

Pat *may* be there. Maybe. It’s on his schedule, but it’s a couple blocks away from the convention center, so I’m worried he might get lost or distracted on the way there.

So you *might* see Pat assuming he isn’t wandering lost, confused, or supine in a chemical fug facedown in a ditch somewhere. But that’s hardly important because James Ernest *will* be there. And it’s a really awesome event for a great cause, the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

There will be a nice meal served, and you’ll get to play games with cool game designers like James, Mike Selinker, and Paul Peterson. There’ll even be a life-sized game of Tak to play, as well as one of Tsuro (one of my personal favorites).

There’s thousands of dollars of prizes up for grabs, and you’ll be able to spend the entire night gaming to your heart’s content.

If you’ve got the money to spare and want to do something fun before the con officially starts, you can pick up your tickets right here while they last.

Friday, September 2nd

The con itself starts on Friday, and all of the panels are going to be livestreamed over on the 3 different PAX twitch channels, so if there’s something you want to check out, be sure to mark it on your calendar, but remember that all times are in PACIFIC TIME when you do.

  • 7:30pm-8:30pm: An Evening with Pat Rothfuss, Wyvern Theater (Westin Level 4)

This will be an awesome event, so if you’ve got a badge to PAX you should swing by and check it out. Pat usually does a reading, takes a bunch of questions, and goofs off in whatever way he deems appropriate.

The livestream will be right here, and I won’t lie that I’ll be interested and nervous to see what Pat does for the world to see.

Saturday, September 3rd

  • 11am-1pm: Signing in the Autographing Area (Westin Level 2)

As I mentioned before, if you need something to get signed, you’ll be able to pick up the first Princess & Whiffle book at the signing, as well as the Talent Pipes or Domesticated Owlbear pins.

  • 5:30pm-6:30pm: Acquisitions Incorporated Cast Commentary, Wyvern Theater (Westin Level 4)

acquisitions-inc-970x545

The entire cast of Acquisitions Inc is getting together to talk about the game, and do some Acquisitions-specific Q&A. The whole crew will be there, including Chris Perkins, so if you love the series you can finally ask all of your burning questions here. This, again, will be livestreamed right here on Twitch.

Sunday, September 4th

  • 12pm-1pm: Tak Talk with James and Pat, Wyvern Theatre (Westin Level 4)

TakFPBanner1

Pat and James Ernest are going to get together and talk about all things Tak. It’s a great opportunity to hear about its origin, history, and how things went behind the curtain.

The livestream for this panel will be here, and you’ll be able to listen in and hear all the fun stories from Tak’s storied life. It really is a beautiful game with a fascinating history.

  • 6:00pm: Acquisitions Inc Gameplay, Main Theater (Benaroya Hall)

Acquisitions inc preview2

And, last but not least, will be the live game of Acquisitions Inc. I have no idea what’s going to happen here, but you can probably bet that there will be a chandelier or two and a couple of shouts of WHAT HO.

* * *

There you have it, guys. Have fun finding Pat wherever he is, and if you’re stuck at home like me, make sure to catch a livestream or two. We can commiserate together if he says something particularly egregious.
