New Interview! See Pat’s Magnificent Beard in Living Colour!

Captain Joe discovered this youtube video just a while ago. It’s a video interview I did with my UK publishers back in January. I suspect that they released this video to help promote the release of the UK paperback, which came out over there in June.

Surprisingly, watching myself here doesn’t make me cringe hardly at all. I’m halfway articulate here, so I’m guessing that I managed to have a good strong cup of coffee before the interview started.

Share and enjoy,

pat

Seeing the magnificent beard in full colour, with interactive 3-D movement makes me wonder whatever happened to the Action Pat figurine. That would’ve been so damn marketable. It was the highlight of my week stumbling across this on the y-tube, as I’ve taken to calling it. Heh… apart from collegehumor and The Guild, this is the only thing worth watching on y-tube.Also, folks, check this out:http://zoomii.com/#Online virtual bookshop – search for Wise Man’s Fear and read the awesome sypnosis. Man, wish I could read it… right… … …… … … now.Awesome, joe

Ben, awesome is too light of a word for how awesome it is. We need a new word, a never-before-uttered-word – how about… <>bal<>awesome? It works. Sypnosis is balawesome.

So three minutes into the video I realize that I have been mesmerized by your beard and lulled by your voice without actually hearing what you’re saying… hahahah. But after a while it made sense. Totally understood the whole picking up a fantasy book and wondering if I have read it before, makes me realize how much I appretiate how different and interesting your story is, specially compared to a typical fantasy novel…This is torture. I can’t wait for Wise Man’s Fear.

You should get your hands part 2-3 of this interview for us and post it. I don’t want to sign up for their stuff to get it. I get enough junk mail!

That was fun watching and to listen too. I’m was also getting kind of jealous. My best friend and I are working on our own world for a while now (aprox 2 years now). I’m writing the story, he and I create a world (in every sense) and he comes up with the mythology. It’s hard, but cool in the same time. But when I hear you telling what your inspiration is… Man… I feel small. But, nonetheless, I enjoyed the interview very much, thank you.Oh, and yes, I agree with the guy/chick above me. It would be better if part 2 & 3 would be posted here. Though I can guess that would not be a very prudent thing to do. With them being your UK publisher and all…

Wow, the pictures I’ve seen don’t do the beard justice. You have to see it in real interactive 3d to appreciate Pat’s manly facial growth.

The beard looks great. It has returned to its Walt Whitman stage and we’re all better off for it. Also, to the anonymous commenter who wanted Rothfuss’s ‘boy bits’ to be bitten by a dog: I hope your ear turns into your asshole and you shit all over your neck.

I’m, Reading it again…..again…Every time I read it there are tiny little questions that pop out. One day I will write them down and submit them to you Pat. Like the Cande-Battle with Fen. There was a much much easier way for Kvothe to win that, Did he not think of it? IDK. Every tim ei read it i formulate more for D&D in my brain. I have Ideas but I don’t want to step on your toes.

Next time you do an interview, right before the guy sits down, slip a little tiny bird figure into the beard and see if he notices. If you can get a remote controlled one, so much the better.

“Back stage pass” was a good way to describe the book. It definitely has that feel. Im sure pitching is a nightmare and dont look forward to it myself. I have a question. you said you have worked on the whole story for 14 years. In that time, what was the longest you spent without writing anything in the world of Kvothe? day, week, month, year? Jasonp.s. – If i move to Wisconsin can you teach me hhow to grow a beard like that?

Thanks to you Joe, I am no longer content to just sitting here reading Pat’s lovely posts and comments by his legion of loyal fans. So from this point on, I’ll be making myself known. It’s nice to make your virtual acquaintance!coolbeans&& btw, that virtual bookshop is really kickass. Thanks again, Wes

Count Wes, it is a pleasure. I formally extend greetings from this humble community of Rothfussians. As a new member, you are awarded 3 starter ‘Pat Points’, and should receive your complimentary lock of Official Beard in 3-10 working days.Awesome to make your acquaintance, dude. That virtual bookstore is the next best thing to actually being in a bookshop. It’s awesome.Stay out of trouble, mate,~~Joe

Ahhh, Sweet acceptance. It’s great to be a rothfussian, officially speaking. I have a shrine prepared for the lock of beard, with all the necessary materials; incense, sage, candles, etc. Pat Pointsoooooooohjust saying it makes me tremble. What a delicious concept. What can do these Pat Points get me exactly? Thanks againWes

    Posted July 11, 2008 at 10:58 AM | Permalink

Ah, Wes, to be young again…Pat Points were unwittingly suggested by an anonymous comment left oh so many blog post ago, and from there Sailor Matt awarded that guy a Pat Point for suggesting Pat Points, and then I awarded Matt half a dozen points for taking it one step further, and I think Marky took a further step, and we tried to bribe Angela with a bajillion Pat Points if she had proof that sexy-pillow fights do actually take place in the real world…Basically, the Pat Point system is a reputation/popularity matrix of untold power and wealth. Garner the points, my friend, and garner them well, for they represent your standing in the eyes of Action Pat.Yeah – it’s a piss-around, when you break it down. All the best,~Cap’n Joe
