Closure

Those of you who have been reading the blog for a while might remember several months ago when I posted up a general call for help.

The short version of the story is this. A reader sent me a very polite invitation to their high-school graduation party, and since I was going to be in the area anyway for Wiscon, I thought I’d stop by and say hello.

Of course I failed to take into account the fact that I’m an idiot. So while I remembered the party was over Memorial Day weekend, I didn’t make note of anything else, such as the address of the party, the person’s contact information, or even their name.

Needless to say, it was not my shiniest moment.

So I posted up a blog asking if anyone could help clue me in.

The bad news was that I did miss the party. The good news is that I did eventually get in touch with the reader. (Their name was Moss, by the way.)

The weird news was that over the last couple months, I’ve had at least fifty people ask me if I ever managed to get in touch with them. It was kinda strange. I’d be doing a reading in California, and when I threw open the floor for questions, someone would ask, “did you ever make it to that reader’s party?”

So, in the interest of giving everyone the closure they so desperately desire, I figured I’d let y’all know what happened.

This last weekend we finally managed to get together. We grabbed coffee and hung out for a little bit.

Awww…. (Yes, they’re taller than me. No, I don’t have a problem with that.)

I also finally got to give them the graduation present I meant to bring to their party. A remnant of my checkered past: a copy of my College Survival Guide.

I’m including this picture mostly so y’all can make fun of my handwriting.

That’s all for today. Just a little closure on a story I started a couple months ago. See? I can do it. It just takes some time….

Love,

pat

You know that by posting that picture you will have to answer questions about contact information for the girl now?

Oh, that was so cute. I’m sure you both had a great time. If you ever come back to Europe and drop by Spain I’d love to give you a tour over my city, we don’t have graduation parties but lots of great food instead ;D

Jeez Pat, butt kissing aside, I just don’t think any other celeb/artist out there would do even half of the cool stuff you get around to for your fans. It is rare to come across real generosity of spirit anymore and even more appreciated for the fact that it is not contrived or self serving. Thank You !

P.S. “…story I started a couple of months ago. See ? I can do it.”

A less than subtle hint that you do actually do some writing from time to time and we should stop bugging you ?

I was wondering whether you’d made it to the party. Too bad it didn’t work out. I’d have asked you to come to my graduation party, too, but I didn’t think you’d want to travel to Germany at the moment, being busy and all… (I’ll count on you to make the trip, once book 2 is published *hypnotic stare*)
Really nice of you to meet this girl after missing the party, I can only imagine how happy she must have been…

You are one cool dude, Pat.

Although those shades, combined with your dangerously awesome over-manliness (read: your Beard), kind of scream “hardcore biker,” to me. Which is odd, considering the mutant Powerpuff-octopus hybrid schoolgirls on your t-shirt. I can only conclude that you are hunting River Tam. Are you wearing pants?

PS Should I bring pants to college?

Breanna is my little sister. I can honestly say that you quite literally made her decade (making her day is obviously assumed). Thanks so much for being a stand up guy and meeting up with her. Plus, she’s about six three, so don’t feel bad.

I meant to log on last week and tell you how awesome “The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle” was, but I was moving and it was pushed to the back of my mind and moving van. But, I’m here now to tell you that me from a week in the past enjoyed the book immensely, and the three endings were stupenderiffic. A week ago I was very into making up words…I’m sure you understand.

    Hey Pat,

This is an off topic so I apologize but I felt t funny enough to mention. There is a new Hooter’s commercial that has been airing where I live (So Cal) and there is a guy in the commercial dressed like the King from Burger King. The guy looks just like you, maybe you can find it on youtube or something.

I got a good chuckle from it, perhaps you will as well. I would post a link but I am at work right now and the IT filters block me from it.

    Yaaaaay closure!

Thank you thank you thank you!

Seriously, this has been bugging me!! >.>

I feel I should say–my husband’s handwriting makes Mr. Rothfuss look like a schoolmarm. I’m just saying. You can actually *read* what Pat wrote. I’ve been reading notes from my husband for 11 years, and I still have to give up and ask him what he wrote sometimes…the best part? *He* doesn’t know what he wrote half the time…

    *face palm*

My boyfriend’s handwriting is somewhere between your husband’s and Pat’s. Usually I can discern what was written, but on the occasions where I can’t, neither can he.

    • TheJoke
      Posted August 11, 2010 at 10:03 AM | Permalink

My handwriting is worse than Mr. Pats, a lot worse even, especially if i write too fast. And i write fast almost every time because i hate to write by hand^^

    • Posted August 12, 2010 at 7:31 PM | Permalink

Yeah, my husband’s handwriting is pretty bad, too. I don’t know about half the time, but it’s not that unusual for him not to know what he wrote. My proudest moment in deciphering his handwriting actually didn’t involve looking at it myself — it was for someone else trying to read it, I was across the room. I guessed correctly based on context and what the other reader seemed to think the first letter was. Oh, and my husband was there too, but I guessed it before he remembered what he’d written.

Aw. That made me smile. =)

Also, Mr Rothfuss; perchance, is that a touch of grey I see highlighting your most bushy beard? Or is that just the light? Gives you a touch of learned gravity that counterbalances the youthful coolness of the ski sunglasses.

    I joke, I joke!

    =D

I’m not six three, really. Just six foot. Benjamin (9 or 10 comments up) exaggerates horribly.
However, he certainly doesn’t exaggerate in the case of making my decade. It may even be my eon.
I am the envy of my friends right now. (Those that have read NOTW – meaning pretty much all of them)
Also, I got to meet Oot and Sarah, who are both awesome.
And I think me, my dad, and Pat got to talk for at least two hours, shich was extraordinarily epic.
    My brother is quite jealous… : )

    On an unrelated topic:
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but – I just discovered that if you go to Amazon.com and type in “wise”, the top two suggestions in its little auto-list of suggestions are both Wise Man’s Fear. How cool! (Although maybe it’s one of those smart engines that already knows that I’m a Rothfuss groupie and thus lists that book first. . .?)

I’m just one of those people…I guess I did call him “Pat” too in the post up there (mainly b/c that seems to be the prevailing opinion around here)…but I just feel *weird* calling people by their first names if I don’t know them well.

    *shrug*

(But you’re right, he doesn’t seem like much of a “Mr. Rothfuss”, does he? I bet he’s one of those “Mr. Rothfuss was my father!” folks, isn’t he?)
