The 2013 Fantasy Pin-up Calendar: Announcing our Authors

Last year, as some of you might remember, I accidentally published a calendar.

We did it as a fundraiser for Worldbuilders, and it fit in with our book-centered geekery pretty well because each month featured a pin-up based on a classic literary figure.

Like Mark Twain:

Lewis Carrol:

Or Nathanial Hawthorne:

At some point while working with the artist, Lee Moyer, we ended up discussing how it would be cool to do a similar sort of calendar, but with more modern authors.

Maybe even doing it with some of the more popular authors that write in the genres we love.

Maybe we could even do it with, say, some big-name fantasy authors.

So I made some phone calls. Lee did some sketches. And almost before we knew it, a bunch of amazingly generous fantasy authors had agreed to help us raise money for Worldbuilders.

Up until now we’ve kept a pretty tight lid on this project. But now it’s time to show off the cover and announce the authors that are involved.

Take a look:

You really need to click on that to see the bigger version. If only to read the names more clearly.

Seriously. Look at that. Gaiman AND Pratchett AND Harris AND Martin.

And Ray Bradbury. The man himself. He agreed to be a part of this not long before he passed away.

Really, there’s no names in there that aren’t big names. I’m solidly geeked about everyone involved.

This is all we’re showing off for now. Just a bit of a teaser. You’ll see some of the finished pin-ups in the weeks to come, and we won’t be shipping them out until November. But I wanted to let everyone know what was coming for a couple reasons….

  • A heads-up to retailers.

Do you run a bookstore or some other geek-friendly business? Do you love things that are awesome? Would you like to sell copies of the calendar and help make the world a better place?

If so, drop us an e-mail at:

questions [squiggly at sign] worldbuilders.org

We’ll make it happen.

  • A chance to pre-order.

You can pre-order your copy of the 2013 calendar right now if you like.

We’re even offering a special pre-order deal. If you order 2 or more calendars, you’ll get a $6.00 discount if you use coupon code PINMEUP.

Also, we’re shipping calendars out in the order they come in, so ordering early means you’ll get your calendar sooner.

But you need to remember that this is a pre-order.

Amanda’s Edit: Good news, everyone!  We’ve extended the pre-order to last through November 3rd, so you’ve got more time to get in your order!

Calendars won’t start shipping until early November.

Still, if you’re interested: you can head over right now and order copies from our online store: The Tinker’s Packs.

Later Space Cowboys,

pat

As soon as I’m paid on Friday, you shall have my monies!

I wonder though, will the crème de la crème in December be yourself in the classic Constanza pose, with a tastefully placed novel or two? =-P

    I second RayC’s suggestion for December :D

More generally, pleeeease have chaps in there too – maybe the pin up is opposite sex to the author? Men can do a lovely job too!

I was going to suggest the same thing – many of your readers go for men, not women ;-)

There is some man-ness in the calendar too.

although the shipping fees to France are a bit expensive, i’ll see if i can find some people to mutualize the order =)

That’s definitely the winning strategy for international orders.

I clicked the picture to read the names then spent several minutes looking at the books on the shelf. I find myself doing this whenever there are pictures that contain a bookshelf.

Same here, like if it’s a photo of an author in front of their bookshelf.

With this one I was amazed at every book cover done out in such detail, and with the pattern of her shadow across many as well.

Oh, there they are! Wow, that really is amazing detail. Can’t wait to pre-order mine!!!!!

Okay, I was looking into ordering one or two. So, for the signed copy, how much of the 100 goes to Worldbuilders and how much to the much deserving artist?

Another vote for men as well as women pin-ups. Please!

While i like the idea, to me – there is something wrong with the proportions on the shelf. It might be the composition or the ligting, but it looks askew to me…

So this is maybe an odd request, but any chance of there being an electronic version of this? I don’t really hang a calendar anywhere at home, and so I really wouldn’t use the paper version, but if the images are anything like last years’, they’d make great desktop wallpapers. I could wait until the images escape into the wild and grab them piecemeal at whatever resolution people scan them in as, but I’d rather pay for them all legitimate-like, and get a good quality image.

I understand there might be licensing issues, so this might not be a possibility, but I figured I’d toss the idea out there.

I LOVE love my 2012 pinup calendar, and I have not peeked once at any of the coming months.

I’d like to add that my husband has also quite enjoyed the pinup calendar, although not for the same reasons as myself. :-P

I’ll be getting the 2013 as soon as I get paid! (Freelancers don’t have set pay dates! Boo!)

Me want. Me want bad. Heh.

    Pat,

The connection on this comment is tenuous… but it exists like this:

Calendars = Art. Art -> Pictures. Pictures -> Covers. Covers -> Question:

Which leads up to my question…. which cover (of YOUR books) do you like best? Name of the wind must have more covers that just about anything, plus all the foreign editions….

Oh, and calendar ordered. The Librarian picture is something else.

    I’d love to see a similar calendar done with sexy men– they seem to be a neglected subject in popular art, which makes me a sad panda ;.;

What a terrific post! I spend a couple of minutes on reading, and I’m so
excited by the information I received, by the manner of writing it reminded me this page https://robinfalls.com/. It’s
actually tough to find something valuable on that subject.
But this author appears to be a genuine professional because there’s
a special style in his writings. I will subscribe
to his new books, just not to skip anything. This post works its own reading.
