Okay. For those of you waiting for news. I have news about that news. Meta-news, if you will.
The news-about-news is that I’ll be able to post up what I want to show you at the end of the week. Friday or Saturday. That will be my next blog.
And just so nobody’s hopes and dreams are crushed. It’s not going to be an announcement about the release of The Doors of Stone. But it will be an announcement about a book.
Is that vague enough for you?
Since I’ve got to hold off on that news, here’s something completely different for today…
* * *
As many of you already know, we run an online store called The Tinker’s Packs where you can buy…. well… kind of a whole bunch of stuff: Foreign editions of a lot of different fantasy books, t-shirts, jewelry, and hard-to-find copies of my books.
(Just so you know, all the money we make in the store goes to Worldbuilders.)
Last year, we tried a little experiment. In October, we put some signed books from other authors up in the store. New books that had just hit the shelves. It was a new thing for us, and we weren’t sure people would be interested.
They sold out in about a couple of hours.
Then in November, we tried it again. More new books signed by the authors.
Those sold out in just a couple hours too.
So we’ve decided to make this a regular thing. We’ll put up 3-4 new signed books in the store every month. You get to find out about new books, people get to add some cool signed copies of the books to their libraries, and Worldbuilders makes some money.
Everybody wins.
The only weak link in this plan is the name. I’ve been struggling to find a cool one, if we’re going to make this a regular thing. The best we’ve been able to come up with so far is “Library Builders.”
If y’all could come up with a better name, I’d welcome it. We’ll take suggestions down in the comments. If someone knocks it out of the park, they will be lavishly rewarded and promoted to minion first class, with all the privileges that entails.
Okay. Here’s what we’re adding to the store today. And remember, the books tend to sell fast, so if you want them, jump on them fast.
- Shadow Ops: Breach Zone by Myke Cole.
Here we’ve got the third book in the Shadow Ops series, and has been awesomely received so far. All the copies we have come with signed bookplates from Myke. Even cooler, one of the copies will come with one of the Challenge Coins Myke had printed as a special promo for his book. It was packaged in at random, so it’ll be a surprise for everyone involved who gets it.
If you want one, get it before it’s gone.
- The Shibboleth by John Hornor Jacobs.
This is the sequel to The Twelve Fingered Boy. (My review on Goodreads, if you’re interested.) These are lovely first-edition hardcover copies, all signed by the author.
You can grab them over here.
- Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson.
This massive tome is the second in the Stormlight Archive series. Aside from putting Wise Man’s Fear to shame in word count, it hit #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List.
If you don’t have your copy yet, why not buy it from us, and put some money toward a good cause at the same time?
- New Boss Monster Promo Cards
Some of you might remember the folks over at Boss Monster from last year when they created a special promo card for Kvothe. They printed 200 of them, and we sold practically all of them at Gencon. The few we brought back and put in the store got snapped up really quickly.
This year, they’ve done two more promo cards exclusively for us. Both of them are versions of Bast.
(Click to Embiggen.)
It’s a fun game that the crew here has really enjoyed.
If you’ve never played, you can pick up both the game *and* the two promo cards.
Or, if you already have the game, and you’re just looking to fill out your sets, you have the option of buying just the cards, whether you want just one or both together.
There aren’t many copies of the Epic Hero Bastas, so if you want one, you should probably grab it soon…
- “Calling” Poster
I’m pretty open about the fact that I have a profile on Deviantart where I skulk about, looking at fanart.
A while back, I found this lovely depiction of Kvothe and asked the artist (Beth, who has a great portfolio) if we could use it for Worldbuilders. Much to my surprise, she graciously donated the rights for us to make some posters. We’ve got 200 of them in the store signed and numbered.
That’s all for now. I’ll be seeing some of you in Chicago soon.
Fondly,
pat

Well, given the store is the Tinker’s Packs, and these are the most precious things in it, it seems only fair that it be called “The third pack”.
Heh. We might have to work something like that in when we do the redesign….
Announcement about a book? By you? If it’s the Laniel Young-Again book, squees will be had! (If it’s not, I’m still forecasting a shower of squees come the end of the week….)
“Shower of squees” feels a bit dirty for some reason … but whatever, no regrets.
I’d call it The Arcane Archives, mainly for the alliteration.
It may be too classic but, what about “A shelf to help the world”? Or even something like “Help your library, help the world” (Although the last one sounds more like an slogan than a name).
What about a shortened version of one of your ideas:
“Shelf Help”
“The Bindery”
The two that I like would be “Authors Without Borders” or “Hancock’s Pack”
Lorren’s stacks
I was going to suggest “Stacks” or “Tomes.” :D
I like the third pack as suggested above
other thoughts:
Demon Devi’s Pricey Prizes
Kvothe’s Bargain’s
Words of Taborlin
The Chronicler’s Looted Pack
Yeah, not easy… names are hard
“The Wise Man’s Gear”
Authored Author!
The Great Buyaway.
Buy The Way.
Bookends.
Booky, the manpyre seller.
Fly off the shelves.
Geddit here.
The best of Tomes.
Libre archy.
By the Rack.
Aw… some books.
I can’t think up a name. But i was thinking a while back that you could put certain things on sale in bundles of three’s. Also I would really like to buy Kvothes cloak. The one from Fela would be pretty sweet, but of course we all want the one from Frelurian although I’m not entirely sure thats possible.
How about “The Top Shelf”? It has all kinds of fun allusions to quality and good times, and arguably even to the Name of the Wind if you want to stretch the allusion, since Kvothe runs an inn with a “bar”.
This post reminds me that
“Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.” -Elodin
So, after lighting a fire in my mind, and wringing a couple of tears from my heart, here are my ideas for the new class of books:
Jax’s Stacks
Signs of the Tomes
Chronicler’s Chronologies
-A collection of stories, collected by a chronicler of stories
The Names that Shape Us
New Novels Every Term
Viari’s Acquisitions
Naming IS quite hard… I now have even more respect for you
A good name really depends on what image you’re wanting to create or theme you’re attempting to fit. If you mainly wanted to emphasize the elite nature of these signed copies, something like “Top Shelf” or “Reserve Shelf” could work.
If you wanted to link these books to Worldbuilders, “Wordbuilders” wouldn’t be bad, though you might want a subtitle so people don’t think you just misspelled the link to the Worldbuilders site.
If whimsy is your thing, you might prefer “Signed Shenanigans,” “Competitor’s Corner,” or “Books I wish I’d written.”
“Books from the Four Corners” would be a fun tribute to your world while also reflecting the varied progeny of the offerings.
Imprimatur
The Sign Post
Novelties..
it works for me in that you could advertise it with, “Novelties from the Tinker’s Pack”. which is a good tie in with the store already, and these are definitely special and “Novel” items if we can forgive the pun. Which I think we can.
The World-Collector’s Corner
Periodical Collection Boosters
Monthly World-building
“The Waystone Guests”
The books of the Waystone could be gone any day, so grab them while you can!
I think I might know of the news.
But I think I’ll keep shut like because, you know, that’s how awesome this fan is. :)
By the way, you’re awesome too.

I would like to publicly thank our man Patrick for the meta-news. Too often fans complain about something like an author not being open, but never seem to give gratitude when the author is.
So thank you Patrick.
Sticking with the ‘Builders’ theme, how about Wordmasons? The section with the signed books could be the Wordmason’s Lodge.
They could even have their own symbol. Replace the square with an open book, and the compass with a pen and feather.
Using the libary theam and being a reference to other authors how about
Adventures into L-Space!
Would this announcement happen to be about a different third book from a different excellent genre-bending author? Would said author often send out announcements via faux-alumni newsletters?
Easy…. The Tinker’s Stacks
I like this — “The Tinker’s Stacks” has a good ring, and multiple layers. This one is good.
Another possibility would be “Worlds-built” or “Built Worlds” but they’re both a bit awkward.
My mind went somewhere similar with “The Tinker’s Picks”. Like “The Tinker’s Stacks” as well.
Makes me think of the “the tinkers sacks” lmao “the stacks of tinkers sacks” maybe lol
I’m not what you’d call a Namer but Thrice Bound Books or Thrice Told Tales would be my ideas for names.
The Signature Series
The Name of the Author
Autographic Affix-iation
… I need m0re wine I think.
Give a Tome a Home
Viari’s Vault
Scriv’s Selection (kind of like the ’employee recommended’ section in book or music stores)
They should be called “The Stacks” seeing as its a place to find new authors and read new things and “The Stacks” are a place of new knowledge and informtion
Hmmm…
Bookshelf Builders
The Stacks
Ooooh, “The Stacks” is good. Although I’d go for just “Stacks”.
Or, perhaps, “The Archives”. Simple is often best.
“Tomes”?
“Tomes” would certainly seem appropriate given the length of many of the books available..
Hey Pat, I know you’ve just gotten back from a lot of traveling but I just wanted to check that a ebony piece I sent off a few weeks ago made it to you safe and sound.
I’m crap at names so I’ll just say “The Third Pack” fits quite nicely.
The Tinker’s Tomes
Guest Tomes
Donated Tomes
Guest Novelties
Noted Novelties
Hmm… names. XD I’m terrible at names, but must try.
Magnum Opus
Bound Humanity
Bound Builders
Builder Editions
Atheneum
Athenaeum
The Arcanum
Or the name of whatever is behind the four plate door in the Archives, but we don’t know what that is yet
We need Elodin! He’d sort this out quick smart!
Hmmmmmmmm;
“Scriv’s Treasures”
Or something relating to Scrivs because, let’s face it, what Scriv worth the paper their books are printed on wouldn’t want one of these?
Or for something not Kingkiller related….
“By Book or By Hook”
Not the greatest, but the best I could come up with.
The Writers’ Racks
(…’cause, you know, it rhymes with Tinker’s Packs. Also: alliteration.)
New Alexandria
How about The Broken Binding? Have a call back to the first book and Kvothe’s last sacrifice before reaching the University. Just a thought.
Given your unabashed love for Pratchett, how about :
The coscenarist L-space or the Bard’s L-space or simply
Pat’s bad-ass-for-a-good-cause L-space?
Signed book purchase title suggestions:
Tomes of Endearment
Devi’s Top Shelf
Bindery, bottle & quill
Inscribed Illuminations
How about “The Ridiculous Rack of John Hancocks on Books Rack”
The Mews.
Because temporarily keeping precious things. Mostly because it’s fun to say.
And other than that, I third/fourth/etc. The Stacks. For fun!

The Scribbles

Since these books are going to be of an elevated caliber, why not bring Manicely)rren in on this?
-Lorren’s Limited
-Lorren’s Select
-Master Lorren’s Private Collection (a little long)
The there are his Gillers…
-The Giller’s Pack
-Giller’s Gold
Then, last but not least…
-Acquisitions (because I have a fondness for that word, and it fits quite nicelyb
Sorry for the weirdness, I don’t know what happened in the transference from my phone.

Tinkles – I keep thinking of these new books leaking out of the Tinker’s Pack
Inuendos: Inscription Erection Collection

(This assumes the collection is routinely updated)
Desperate: Buy Me, I’m Shiny
Stolen: I don’t always buy books, but when I do they’re always signed.
Uncreative and pointedly obvious: Someone else may have written this but at least they signed it.
Unlikely Maths – Cosine
(This assumes they sit next to your signed books on the shelf because we know your books are the hypotenuse!)
That should do for now.
signature stacks
tinker’s stacks
tinker’s tomes
(tinker’s) signature selection
arcanum archives
altruism archives
signature offering

May I recommend,
“The Inkers’ Stacks”?
Pat,
I got off work today, saw you had a new post, and my dreams about book 3 were about to come true… aaaaand its gone.
Thanks for letting me down so kindly.
I know it comes from a place of love.
– J.R.
Name suggestions:
– The Readme
– Readdit (Pronounced “red it, like the site reddit.com)( maybe kill the second “d” perhaps?)
– If you’re marketing to NW fans (assumption based on your work/fan base), you would do yourself, the authors submitting their books, and World Builders a disservice if you didn’t pick something themed around NW.
Pat,
Love love love your books. I have heard a little rumour that this amazing news of yours could be the release of an Auri novella…?
Please let this be true, need some more Rothfuss to read…
‘Worlds of Words’
or
‘WordWorlds’
May I humbly suggest “The Scribes Stockpile”
Release dates for The Slow Regard of Silent Things? or tale of Laniel Young-Again Book? after the Bast Story in Rogues in July, my to read list is going to start filling up on Goodreads
Lo-rren & Behold !
Just Signed!
Sign-ificant Tomes!
I personally wanted to call that section “dibs”
but it seems I was much too late.
Signare Firme
(just means “To Sign Signatures” using Latin and then Italian)
though, “firme” in Spanish also means resolute, or stable – which is what Worldbuilders both is and provides.
Plus I like how it sounds…
Name suggestion: “The Book Shepherd” or just “Book Shepherds”.
The explanation is tripartite (like… oh, I dunno, the silence in the Waystone, for example). First: because I know you’re a Whedon fan. Second: because the proceeds go to Worldbuilders and thus Heifer, hence the reference to keeping livestock. Third: because the Tinker’s Packs will act as a “keeper of books”, until said books are “shepherded” to a (good) new owner.
The Tinker’s Reserve
Fan Zone
Shelf Supply
Something with “Scraps” in it
Also, if I become Top Minion, I am going to work very hard to achieve world peace and equal rights for everyone.
What about “signs of the end’ or “signs of the beginning”
Book Faire
Or ummmm something like
True names of scribes or
Naming of scribes signed
Some thing along that line??? Maybe too long
Or the adem hand signals for excitement lol.
So I did a quick Ctrl+F through the page and I’m not the first person to think of Lorren’s book-finding gillers, but I can at least put down a second vote for the concept. It’s not a perfect parallel – I get the impression Lorren wouldn’t think kindly of selling books from the Archives, even if it was for charity. Still. They are so cool it’s hard to put down a chance to reference them.
My vote goes to “The Top Shelf”
The tinker concept is in many series and historical. However, it brings to mind Pat’s world in this setting so I would stay in that world–
“Puppet’s Nook”
Signature Loot
Everythings signed and it’s epic loot :) what more could you ask for!!
“The Broken Binding”? For the bookshop in Name of the Wind. I am really partial to “The Tinker’s Stacks”
This may, perhaps, be a bit too later to even be seen, but I’ll give it an attempt no less.
The valuable thing here over the rest of the normal books one could buy are the names transcribed within. And those gathered here should above all others know the value of a name. And the gift of these names goes to a charity, which is a kind and wonderful thing. So while I could never hope to have even a fraction of Kvothe’s naming sense, Personally, I’d call them…
The Names of Compassion
Like the wind, compassion has many ever changing names. And in this case, those names belong to the authors giving to worldbuilders and to those purchasing said names.
Best of luck in your search for a name, Pat.
Ugh. All that and I forgot to check for typos at the end. And now, my confident and what I consider to be at least half clever post is marred forever. Ironic that the typo is on the words “Too late”.
The Inkwell
or
The SignPost
(It’s where you post the signed books. Also, it references the Tinker’s Packs pic.)
Signature Salubriations
Maybe “Chronicler´s list?”, or “From Chronicler´s bag” or something alike given that what he does is collect good stories around the world
Yet again my reading list has grown longer… anyway,
-Tinker’s Tomes
-Tinker’s Hammer
-Tinker’s Tales
-Tinker’s Tips
-Tinker’s Tools
-Builder’s Manual
-Builder’s Hammer
-Tinker’s Guide
-Tinker’s Treasure (I think I saw this one above)
-Tinker’s Tote
-Scriv’s Surprise
-Scriv’s Scratches
-Scriv’s Scribbles
-World(‘s) Light
-Laureate’s Light
-Tinker’s Vault
-TAKE MY MONEY!!
-Thinning Coffers
-The Bard’s Voice
-Creator’s Caper
Might have a few more…
Patrick your bit about adding cool signed copies to my library, and your conspicuous avoidance of the word ‘edition’ got me thinking. What about this for a name:
“Signed Additions”
Archive of Alexandia
Or rather, Archive of Alexandria that is
Fantastic Folios & Unquestionable Quartos
Hi
Agree with the usual Tinker’s three or Tinker’s pick
other
-Tinker zone/Tinkers zone/The Tinker zone (like The Twilight zone)
-Tinker Bells (it’s fun, but I don¡t know if its Disney propietary)
-Tinkers chosen

-Viari’s chosen
-Cataloger’s Mew
variation from Auri (because she finds strange & unique things from the Underthing)
