Do Not Bounce.

So, I can’t imagine my life without Dr. Horrible. I’m dimly aware of doing things prior to watching it. I wrote a book, learned to walk, lost my virginity, etc etc. Silly things. Trivial things.

Joss Whedon. I don’t think there’s even a word for what I feel for him.

There’s awe, that’s a given, plus a vasty respect. Then those two emotions are tangled up with an odd, primal terror. I know that sounds odd, but that’s the only way I can describe it. He terrifies me. It’s the same fear a caveman would feel when confronted with, say, Opimus Prime. It’s the terror that drove people to burn witches at the stake. Why? Well, because they can do things. They have preternatural abilities that freak us out right down to the marrow of our bones.

So. You take that knot of molten awe, respect, and holy terror, wrap it up in a fluffy blanket of love, then sprinkle it lightly with toasted coconut. That’s how I feel about Joss Whedon. Is there a word for that? If not, we need one.

Were I not Pat, I would be Diogenes. Were I neither of those, I would be Joss Whedon.

But I’m not. I can’t be Dr. Horrible either. Is it wrong that I want to dress up like him? Where can I get a lab-coat like that?

I think that there might be something wrong with me….

By tomorrow I’m guessing I will have settled down a little. But right now I’m thinking I might want to do a video blog or two. But honestly, I don’t know if that’s a good idea, I am many things, but I’m no Neil Patrick Harris.

What about you guys? Would any of you be interested in seeing a video blog?

Firstly, Dr. Horrible is one of the more amazing things I’ve seen lately, and that’s without having yet had the opportunity to watch the 3rd installment (which I plan on remedying shortly.) Secondly, I think a video blog would be a really neat idea and I wholeheartedly support it! On the flip side, it may cause “The Beard” (TM) to start its own world-domination plans. And then you’d have a best-selling book, and a power-hungry, world-domination-seeking Beard. On second thought, this may not be a bad thing at all! Go for it!

Ha, bearded video blog would be awesome, Pat. Failing that, if you’re looking to energise the blog, excerpts from Wise Man’s Fear would suffice, I suppose… … … … <>please<>…?Smooth, Joe – like a fox.How you feel about Joss Whedon sounds almost like a recipe for Rocky Road, only in place of most ingredients we have raw knots of pure emotion + coconut.Yeah.In other news, how awesome is Dark Knight?~Cap’n Joe

A)Vlogs rock. Go for it!B)I, too, have geekbumps. It was like the StarWars prequilogy without all the suck OR the extra 6 hours. The Whedon Clan need to pen “How to Create a Believable Villain in 50 Minutes or Less” Then they need to send Lucas a complimentary copy.

First. I vote with Capt Joe. A small tease. Or a taste of Wise Man’s Fear would be awesome!Second, I might have to revise my alter of divinity to add Christian Bale to my pantheon. I know that Ledger is (deservedly) getting all the attention. But Bale continues to make me want to be Batman (and I am a confirmed Marvel Geek). As far as the video blog goes…. go for it, if we hate it, we’ll vote down episode 2. And a video blog where you read a few selected samples of WMF would add you to the pantheon right next to Christian Bale. Thanks be to Joe for the idea.-grin-

I’m not hostile to the occasional video, but I’d really prefer if you kept writing most of the posts.I’m not a native English speaker and I’m more comfortable reading than listening; moreover, my computer at work I don’t have a soundcard and when I’m at home I really prefer the silence…

While I love you to death Pat, somehow I doubt you’d be able to pull off the “The hammer is my penis” line. It would just make you look like a dirty old man. You might be already, but let’s not advertise alright?Video blogs are okay. I’ve followed ZeFrank while he was on (awesome) and I’ve followed Nalts on and off since he started (not as awesome but pretty damn good). In the end, I’ve found words speak louder than videos. And I’m not sure why since I’m a very visual person.Video interviews, I’m all for that. Audio versions of the book, hell yeah. Video blogs…meh. Maybe.

Dr. Horrible was fantastic. I can only hope the success Whedon has seen here brings us more from Mutant Enemy. As for the video blog definitely go for it. Let’s face it, you’re not writing ALL THE TIME. Even if you should be or everyone’s impatient for the next novel or whatever.MichaelPh.D in Horribleness

It has increased my love for Joss Whedon many fold. And while you may not be a Neil Patrick Harris, you are still THE Patrick Rothfuss. A video blog would be groovy coolness! Go for it!

I liked Dr. Horrible and respect it a lot for what it was, but I must admit it didn’t blow me away the way it has other people. I love many things Whedon (I’m working my way through Angel for the second time as I write this)but I guess I need more development to really get sucked in. But it was very funny (I laughed out loud many times) and the ending did kind of crush me.Anyway, I personally would love a video blog from you.

So, vicariously, I’m a fan. I plan to read your book quite soon. I thought I should tell you, since, you know, I always notify authors that I’m going to read their book… Actually I’m just really bored and I love Dr. Horrible. Anyways, bye.

I would love to see what you come up with on a video blog. I think it would be a very good thnig to do when you’re not writing. Keep the creative juices flowing and all that. You and Captain Joe should do a Patman VS the Joeker episode. I am sure you both could come up with something hilarious.Dr. Horrible was a very welcome distraction while I wait for a TV channel in the UK to pick up Dollhouse. Hopefully, there’s much more to come from Joss.

Beat Patrick Rothfuss in a battle of wits and words? Aw damn, who let you into the Wonderflonium stash, Marky?Definitely a tall order, dude – even for Captain Joe, Lord of the Skies. Your website is great, but you have a few typos. For instance, on the map page, you are missing a word in the paragraph about how Tarbean smells…I think maybe the word “smells” is missing. Great job! The site has a lot of character.

I have to confess: at the words ‘video blog’ I had a mental image of what Kvothe would do with a camera and a musical score. It set me off giggling.Hail Dr. Horrible and the genius that is Joss Whedon.

I completely mirror your sentiments regarding Joss Whedon. I’m also a huge theater geek and Firefly fan, so to see NPH and Nathan Fillion together like that was just one big nerdy freakout for me. I watched each installment the day it was released and the whole thing twice through last night. /geekThat said, I think you should try a video blog. Perhaps not convert yourself over entirely, but I think every once in a while, it would be great to hear your thoughts without the filter of a backspace button. Hope you end up doing it some time.
