Foreshadowing….

We’re getting close to the launch of my show.

How close? So close that I’ve settled on a title. Yeah. Pretty crazy, huh?

We’re going to have a logo and everything. This makes me feel very professional. Not at all like the sort of person who barely managed to pick the name for his show less that a week before it goes live….

When is the show? Why I’m glad you asked. It’s going to be the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 Pacific time.

That means this first show is going to be Tuesday, August 7th. 7:00 PM Pacific time.

Just so you know. You’ll be able to watch the show two different ways.

The first way is to watch it happening live over on Google+.

To do that, you’ll need to start a G+ profile, of course. And it wouldn’t hurt to add my profile, either.

I’ll post the link to the live show, and you’ll all be able to watch our premiere episode launch like the majestic Zeppelin that it is. Imagine, you’ll be able to tell your grandchildren you were there to see it sail gracefully into the heavens, held aloft by the mysteries of the luminiferous aethers.

Or… well… you’ll see it do the other thing. Which you have to admit will still be pretty interesting.

For those of you that can’t catch it live, rest assured we’ll be posting it up on youtube afterward. No worries there.

In the meantime, might I interest you in my current favorite show? It’s another one from Geek and Sundry called Written By A Kid.

Keep in mind that’s this is the THIRD episode of the show. If you haven’t already caught the first one, you’re missing out on so many cool things that I’m surprised you’re still alive.

And for you Goths out there, here’s episode two…

Yeah. Go watch them. You can thank me later.

Written by a kid is an awesome show! And it’s great that you’re starting next week! How soon after the live broadcast will the video be available on youtube?

    Ehm…
It’s probably me, but what will be the title of your show?

    Hi Pat,
I am just getting started in commercial music (http://1000milesmusic.com) and am also a big fan. If you need music for the show I’d be more than happy to donate something just for the exposure.
Best of luck on this great new project!

So stoked you are going live PST. I’ll be off work to watch LIVE.
    YAY my life!

Cant wait to see the Logo and Show name…so mysterious.

And I liked Written by Kid as well, but my girl crush on Felicia Day boosted The Flog in personal ratings….just so ya know where your competition is. (in my heart at least LOL)

Good Luck, Man. Don’t sweat it, you’ll do awesome.

Um…7am or 7pm? I assume pm but for someone in a different time zone that wants to be there for the live stream this is kind of important.

PM. It says right up there.

    Hi Pat,

I am deaf and really want to watch your show BUT need to have it closed captioned. Please let me know if it will be and if not is there any way to get a transcript?

    • Posted August 3, 2012 at 3:43 PM | Permalink

Thanks for bringing that up. Hopefully we’ll have a CC option. That’s something I’ll bring up the next time I talk with the Producers….

You would officially instantly become my favorite show to watch if you added CC to it; for that matter point out to the G&S people that all their shows should have it if they don’t!

      Hey Jean –
I’d be happy to type up a transcript for you if by chance it becomes necessary. *shrug*

Thank you Ivory, that would be great. Now let’s hope it gets cc…

I know when the videos are up on youtube afterward there is the option to enable closed caption subtitles on there, but it’s far from perfect.

Here is a random example from her latest Flog episode-

Felicia Day actual says: “For some reason that’s almost the appeal. It’s not like it’s easy mode gaming, and as a bonus the avatar creation is super fun.”

Youtube captions robot translates it as: “For some reason it’s mostly appeal it’s Elliott easy milking and as a bonus the average recreation is super front.”

While I find that hilarious to me because I know what she actually said, I’m guessing it would be more confusing and/or frustrating to someone that is hearing impaired and actually needed the subtitles. :/

Yah, I was looking at some of this yesterday. It’s really weird, and also kind of funny some of the stuff the computer writes. More people really should edit that portion of their videos though…

It’s actually a pretty easy fix, just a bit of time and editing. (Okay, I admit that may not be easy for some people….time alone is sometimes hard to come by LOL)

For those who need it though, the video of the show should have corrected CC in a few days.

      I’ve always had a thing for ellipses….

  10. Posted August 3, 2012 at 4:46 PM | Permalink

Just how should one go about trying to get considered for a guest appearance on the show?

    Also, ellipses are . . . awesome! And stuff . . .

If you’re keen on having folks watch live, you can set up an Event on G+ which will make it easier for folks to share the details.

I mention this just because I know a few dozen folks that would be interested in the details.

Man, sorry to say that, but I’m afraid although your show is surely gonna be great, it most probably won’t be as FANTASTIC as Written by a Kid… (but you may give it a try ;-)) – thanks a LOT for sharing the link. So far any of your recommendations has matched my taste 100%… Almost spooky.

    Hey!

I know this is really off topic but I thought I’d share this here….

The Curiosity Mars Rover is landing on Mars tonight!!! The best part about this is that NASA is streaming the landing live over the internet (and on TV)! If your interested in watching it, you can go to one of three sites:

    http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/
    http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html
    http://www.ustream.tv/NASAJPL

(I think Youtube might have a place you can go to watch it as well but I don’t know that URL

The landing will take place at about (give or take a minute or 2):
    10:31 pm Pacific Time
    11:31 pm Mountain Time
    12:31 am Central Time
    1:31 am Eastern Time
    2:31 am Atlantic Time

They also have information sessions starting 3 pm Pacific and 8:30 pm if you want to watch those, they are also streamed live at the above URL’s.

Anyway just thought I’d share this as it seems like something that Mr. Rothfuss would enjoy and it’s a historical event as this will be the first time NASA uses the Sky Crane technique to land something on another planet! And of course cause it is Very Cool!!! :)

    ie;
“and he screamed louder than a little girl could … louder than a littl girl could … ”
    OR
    “Meeeeyyyyaaaa” “That means charge”

    Nuff said

    Thanks Pat

I’m super excited for your new show. To be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to Written by a Kid at all from it’s description & initial preview- but man was I surprised by how purely awesome it is! I’ve been noticing a lot more lately than ever before that so many of my favorite celebrities are becoming friends and collaborating together. It’s like all the best parts of the internet just flow into each other now and it makes it just that much more fun. :)

New Kids on the Block is my favourite band of 90s. NKOTB had so many hits! The ones I remember are ‘Tonight’, ‘Baby, I Believe In You’ and, of course their hit ‘Step By Step’. These are real masterpieces, not fake ones like today! And it is awesome they have a tour in 2019! And I’m going to attend New Kids on the Block concert in 2019. The concert setlist is here: New Kids on the Block tour setlist. Check it out and maybe we can even visit one of the performances together!
