Upcoming Events

I’m doing to be doing some traveling in the next couple weeks. (I’ll be in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Seattle.) I figured I’d pass along my schedule so y’all are properly clued-in and can stop by my events if you want to.

Also, if y’all happen to know someone who might be interested in hitting one of these events, you’d be doing be a great favor to me if you passed this info along.

There are few things I hate more than coming back from a city where I just did a couple of events, (let’s pick Seattle, just as an example) then coming home, looking on my facebook wall, and seeing that someone has written, “When are you coming to Seattle??!!1! :)”

Also, for those of you that can’t make it to one of these events, I’m going to be stopping by The Signed Page while I’m out in Seattle. So if you’re dying for a signed book, you can order one from them and they’ll ship it out to you no matter where you live.

Okay. On to the events:

*INDIANAPOLIS EVENTS*

  • Reading and Signing at Indianapolis Central Library.

Thursday, August 16 – 7:00 pm
Central Library
40 E. St Clair St.
Indianapolis, IN 46204

Facebook Event

Over the years I’ve really come to appreciate having a nice space to do a reading, and this library is a great venue. It’s got lovely auditorium seating, and a great AV setup, which means I can possibly do a storytime-style reading of The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle for the whole audience.

Books will be available for sale on site, thanks to the lovely folks at Big Hat Books.  And after my reading/Q&A I’ll be signing books until everyone’s happy or they throw us out of the library.

I’m mostly hitting Gencon as a geek this year, hanging out with friends and playing games. If I’m lucky, maybe I’ll be able to sweet talk my way into true dungeon, which I’ve always wanted to try but never managed to play.

Aside from my personal geekery, I have a few panels, a reading and a signing. (See below).

At other times, I’ll just be lurking around the show. If you’re hoping to run into me, your odds are much better at places like Badali Jewlery (Booth 530) and Geek Chic (Booth 1811).

Also, I’ll be hanging around the Game Salute (Booth 1033) where they’ll be selling signed copies of my books. If you swing by on Saturday between 1:00 and 2:00, I’ll personalize a copy for you if you’d like.

Thursday, August 16 – 1 PM
Room 244
Panel: Painting With Words

Thursday, August 16 – 2-3 pm
Room 244
Panel: Make ‘Em Laugh

Thursday,  August 16 – 4-5 pm
Room 244
Reading with Elizabeth Vaughn

Friday, August 17 – 1-2 pm
Signing at the autograph tables.

Saturday, August 18 – 1-2 pm
Signing at booth #1033.

*CHICAGO EVENTS*

  • Reading and Signing at Northwestern University

Thursday, August 30 – 7:00 pm
Reading, Signing and Q&A

[Edit: We now know where the signing is!

Current location:
The BookMarket Bookstore
2651 Navy Blvd.
Glen Town Center, Glenview, Il 60026]

Here’s the thing, we know I’ll be doing a signing on August 30th at 7:00 PM.

But we’re not quite sure where it’s going to be yet. We’re hoping it will be in the Thorne Auditorium at Northwestern University, but we don’t have  confirmation on that yet. If we can’t get the auditorium, we’ll be doing it in an alternate venue.

As soon as we know for certain, we’ll post up the information here and on the Tour Page.

I’ll be bumming around Worldcon with my whole entourage, (Sarah, Oot, and a couple of my lovely assistants as well.) I heard a rumor that we might even be dressing up on one of the days. But that was probably just a lie….

Thursday, August 30- 4:30-6:00 pm
Autograph Session 1
With Anne Lyle, George R. R. Martin, Jean Johnson, Lawrence M. Schoen, Lillian Cauldwell, and Maurine Starkey

Friday, August 31 – 12-1:30 pm
Panel: Beyond the First Two Pages.

Saturday September 1, 11:30 am-12:00 pm
Reading Room: Addams

*SEATTLE EVENTS*

  • Kris and Scott’s Scott and Kris Show Live!

Sunday, September 2 – 6:30pm doors open, 8:00pm show
The Triple Door
216 Union Street
Seattle, WA 98101

I think this show is going to be a good time. Scott (of PVP) and Kris (of Chainsawsuit) are doing a pair of shows over PAX weekend, and they’ve invited me to be part of the festivities on Sunday.

Want more details? Listen to the dynamic duo themselves….

I think I’m going to need some caffeine in my system to keep up with these guys.

If this looks like your kinda thing, you can buy tickets here.

  • Reading and Signing at the University Book Store

Monday, September 3 – 7:00 pm
University Book Store
4326 University Way NE
Seattle, Washington 98105
Facebook Event

The last time I did a signing in Seattle was about a year and a half ago, and so many people showed up that I didn’t leave the store until nearly 3:00 AM.

This time, since we’re not doing the event the same night as my book release, I think we’ll have a much more modest crowd. That will be nice, as it means most folks will get to sit in chairs, and I’ll have more time to just hang out with people and chat while I’m signing books.

That’s all we’ve got through the end of September, folks.

Share and Enjoy,

pat

Personally I think if the Thorne Auditorium at Northwestern University let’s you down, you should come to the UK, Wales in particular.

That’d be a little bit awesome, well, majorly awesome :)

Oh yes I agree Sweden would be great! :)

Or you just go to any country in Europe and we from other European countries could all buy cheap Ryan Air ticets and travel there!

Yes, please, please do. Even better than Sweden would be Norway, but Sweden or some other European country works too :)

This would be nice. I’ve gone to two signings Pat has done in Wisconsin over the last few years. I’ve spent 18 hours of my life driving either to or from Patrick Rothfuss signings.

You look into the Chicago Cultural Center?

Of course, the difficulty is that Chicago likes to sleep, so keeping a venue open late at night is going to be tough near downtown. But near downtown is where I want to see you!

I’m really excited you’ll be at Gen Con. We’re doing a last minute change of plans to attend this year just to see you! Hope you have fun gaming and get into a dungeon. Just show them your beard they’ll let you in I’m sure :D

No shit? I can see you AND MC Frontalot on the same night, along with Kris and Scott? That much nerd all in one place might make my virginity grow back… and it’d totally be worth it.

    Dear Mr. Rothfuss,

My name is Alex. I am the Far Western Student Representative for Sigma Tau Delta (The International English Honors Society). I was encouraged to here that you’ll be in Seattle in September. We are planning our annual conference in Portland. The timing between the two events does not coincide, but it would have been great to finally meet you. All of this is to say, thank you for inspiring me to major in English. I read your books every summer, and they remind me that what I do is important and worthwhile.

    Sincerely, Alex Daley

P.S. I would be honored to do my capstone (senior project) analyzing your work. If you would not be opposed to the idea.

Must make drive from Michigan to Northwestern! Can’t afford WorldCon this year, but will spend the emerald rupees (sorry, heavy dose of Zelda lately) to make it to Northwestern. I hope the event finds a venue and isn’t cancelled!

Monday at 7 is impossible to get to the University Bookstore after work, so… sad face.

Will you be at PAX that weekend or just at the Triple Door? PAX is well worth going to if you haven’t been yet.

Oh no! Of course, you’d be in Indy tomorrow when I already have plans to move all of my stuff to my storage unit in another state. And since I’m moving to another country in a few days, I’ll probably never get a chance to get my book signed. Oh well.

Have fun at GenCon. The city is ready and it’s kinda scary.

Unless you rock at shuffleboard, you should play a Bard in True Dungeon. It requires good memorization and a quick eye for dismissing artwork taken from the Grail Diary in Last Crusade. At least it did a few years back.

Also being a bard means you can pick what songs to sing to inspire your troupe, and THAT is fun.

Wil Wheaton played a bard once, btw. How can you turn down such an awesome class after hearing that?!

You speaking at the Thorne would totally redeem that room. It was previously used to lure unsuspecting college grads into the evil realm of law school. Practical tip. For parking in that area, if the school does not provide it, try http://spothero.com/

It lets you reserve cheap parking downtown. Otherwise finding good parking over there is a pain.

I notice that the Northwestern University talk is no longer on the tour page, did you give up entirely? I’m staff here at Northwestern (and a huge fan!) so if I can help find a room for this I would love to.

It was awesome meeting you last night – I’m definitely picking up a copy of The Adventure of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle. It was unexpected and hilarious. My husband (Gentleman’s Beard Monthly web comic guy) and I were discussing your guinea pig story/humor theory, and we both agree that all humor does have to kind of horrible, and your story theory is kind of like Schrodinger’s cat (or Schrodinger’s story in this case) – the humor can only exist inside the box.
Anyhow, I hope I didn’t come across as a creepy fangirl. It’s hard to meet people you really admire – what the hell do you say to someone who’s books and blog you’ve read, so you kind of feel like you know, but really you don’t know at all? Uhh, hi? So yeah. Hi Pat. Nice to have met you, I hope Gencon is awesome and that you enjoy Indianapolis. Thank you for producing books that I love and for taking the time to talk to all of us and sign our books last night. It was great.

I was reading through the comments, seeing people ask for Pat to visit Vegas or somewhere in Europe. And a lot of them seem like they’re asking the impossible: “Oh, he’ll never come all the way here!”

Well shit. I was going to ask you, dear Pat, to visit South Africa. So instead of seemingly asking you to do the impossible, I’m just going to ask like it’s not a big deal:

Hey Pat. You know what would be a good and simple idea? Visiting South Africa. I’m sure you can pencil it into your next tour schedule. Can’t wait! :D

This must be annoying but I’m going to join the masses on this one.

Will you ever come to Fresno, California? No one ever comes here. It’s a nasty place, I agree. So nasty that I live in the mountains an hour outside of it. I do my shopping there and what-not. No good bands and especially no authors, good or otherwise, ever come here. If anyone bothers with Central CA, they go to Bakersfield (way nastier and stinkier than Fresno, btw) or Modesto and that just sucks.

So, Mr. Rothfuss, I plead with you to break the mold. Come to Fresno. Please, please, please. It would be so amazing.

    Pat –

I’ll be driving all the way across the state of Iowa just to see you at the Q&A/reading/signing tentatively set for 7:00 pm at Northwestern, if such a thing is indeed going to happen. But since this requires an 8 hour drive and a pre-arranged cardboard box to sleep in once I’ve arrived, I’m anxious to know for sure if this is really going to happen. Should I give my cardboard box up to that aromatic gentleman with the jar of cloudy fluids who lives under the Wabash Avenue Bridge?

Cheers, and can’t wait to finally meet you!

    Of Facts, Ficts and Photons

    Hi Pat,

Fantastic evening at the UofW Bookstore! Thanks for explaining the infinitesimal quantized ficts that coalesce to form the core of your wondrously complex tales in terms that even the physicists in your audience could understand!

All the best, Ross McKenna (physicist and occasional artificer)

P.S. It would be great if a link to the ‘Guinea-Fish’ segment could make it onto the blog, but the DH rule should probably remain in our memories and the trepidatious thoughts of your staff.
