Please Stand By

Man, I have to tell you guys. It feels really good not to have to post a blog up every day about the fundraiser.

Rest assured that regular blog hijinks will ensue next week. Right now, I’m taking a little bit of a rest and getting some writing done.

For now, here’s a link to an interview I did about this year’s charity calendar. I posted this on facebook before, but not here on the blog.

So if you missed it, here you go….

I think it’s the best interview I’ve done in ages. Kat put some serious time into this one, and that let get into the issue and have a substantial discussion on the topcs involved.

Have a good weekend, y’all…

pat

Rest easy, Pantless King. I believe you’ve earned it. And just because the fundraising part of Worldbuilders is now complete – I believe the work is really just beginning for you and your staff. Thanks again for all you do and for diving headfirst into the magic mountain of books and wonders to be scattered to the winds – it can’t be an easy task to knock out. Cheers!

I’m so glad to have been able to donate and spread the word or something so special! You’re awesome, Pat, and so is your team! Enjoy your rest and enjoy your writing (I know I do ^_^)
Can’t wait for “regular blog hijinks to ensue”

    Is the donations meter accurate?

    No erotica? :(

“Hopefully” we can convince Pat that his extra $100K from reaching the $400K stretch goal puts us over the top for erotica. Hopefully…

Eh. For all that I think worldbuilders is a great fundraiser and Heifers a great charity, I am glad it stopped short of that particular stretch goal. The world doesn’t need that anymore than it need real cocaine in it’s coke.

      Congratulations on a great year!

You don’t want erotica OR cocaine in your beverages?
        We have nothing in common.

erotica and cocaine cola…. for a prude his mind is in the right place :D

          • Posted January 28, 2013 at 12:19 PM | Permalink

            Speaking as another prude: I’m pretty sure I personally guaranteed it’ll happen. {wry g}

So those who want to read it can read it; and those of us who don’t, can feel good about not reading it (although it’ll probably be a hoot, since it’s being done as a spoof); and somewhere one more whole village receives training and supplies to bootstrap themselves. EPIC MULTI-VALENT VICTORY!! :D

(Hmmm, maybe Pat or Amber will include that phrase in their portion… I hear Amber is incapable of refusing a dare…)

I compared it to cocaine because I consider erotica addictive. Similar to pornography in the way it cheapens sexuality. Tarnishes the soul. I therefore have no desire to see it well done. Those who are addicted get their kick from shoddy work as easily as quality. And I’d rather unsuspecting people not get caught just because a great craftsman packaged it well.

I realize many disagree and did not speak up in this venue to try to change opinions. I spoke up because I felt remaining silent would be a disservice to Pat. Depriving him of information.

It’s not like Mr Rothfuss can glance over the hive mind and see portions of it trading embarrassed looks when a comment goes awry.

So, to the purpose of freeing Pat from choosing in the dark, I gift him with a data point. One comment. Reporting one instance of finding an incentive disincentivizing. Written despite the expectation of derision from a community I admire, for the most part.

And yes, I suspect that if it could be put in a beverage it would already be in the stores.

    Pat,

Congratulations on an extremely successful fundraiser. You raised almost half a million dollars, which is a truly staggering number. I love your books, and I obsess over reading the next one. However, 20 or 30 years from now your legacy of positively changing lives with this fund raiser will be much greater (if harder to track) than that of your next book. I commend you for being willing to put time into this event, while temporarily putting off the soul torturing encores for another book. You are a great example of investing in what you believe is good, and you have done so in a way that makes the process fun for everyone.

P.S. I think you meant “and that let *us* get into the issues” in the last sentence before your valediction.

    Hi Patrick,
Offtopic, but I just found out that your book made to the Audible Essentials:
    http://www.audible.com/mt/AudibleEssentials2/?page=3
It’s in the middle of the page as a newly added book.

Pat I’m very sorry to hear that mr. moyer declined to have men in the calendar. That’s a shame. I hope maybe in the future you might consider a co-ed calendar with a different artist. Maybe just make a few to be (financially) safe. I’d buy one.

      Agree :)
Pretty much every friend of mine who’s read your book is female (straight), so I do suspect that by making it almost entirely female, there’s a market being missed out on.

Thanks Pat for another amazing drive to change the world. What you’ve done is incredible. I’m excited to see what happens next year. With the way Worldbuilders grow each year, I have no doubt that we’ll pass the 1/2 mil mark next time.

Now go chill…play with Oot…be naughty with Sarah…or whatever. Then, after your well earned rest maybe we’ll see some more of your favorites from the photo contest? :-D

You’ve had a really busy season. Take your time, man. I think everyone will understand if you take some time off of the blog after a highly successful charity event AND a convention appearance.

Just don’t spend too much time doing your fundraiser. It’s fun, and you do something good, but couldn’t you raise even more money with writing books? ;-)

He’s my favorite author, but I’ll wait as long as necessary for his next book if it means $500,000 going to Worldbuilders each one of the years he takes.

      • Posted January 28, 2013 at 12:21 PM | Permalink

Whereas, if he matches that every year, eventually he’ll have to finish another book.

        …EVERYBODY WINS!!

    Hi from Australia Pat :)

I am a big fan of yours but I am desperate for the 3rd Kingkiller book. Is there a name for it yet and when can we expect it to be released?

Love your work by the way and I checked out Worldbuilders, it is a great thing you are doing there.

Sorry for being impatient but it’s killing me not knowing.

Rumoured title is ‘The Doors of Stone’. A quick google search can give you more info, so no one should elaborate and cause potential spoilers on this here blaug.
