Hey everyone, Amanda here! Pat, his family, some of the Worldbuilders team, and I are all out in LA for Beyond Hunger, a big charity gala that Heifer International is putting on. As is traditional, Pat wanted to mention everything he’s doing while we’re out here, and because of the Syrian Refugee fundraiser we’re running, we haven’t had the chance.
The fundraiser is going extremely well, and we have some pretty exciting news: another anonymous supporter has offered to match $10k. That, and the hint we just got that we’re going to get some really good press very shortly, has pushed us to make the decision to push back the fundraiser end date to Wednesday, September 23.
If you want to donate to help the Syrian refugees, you can get more bang for your buck for the next $10,000, and do a lot with it.
And now, on to Pat’s schedule for the next few weeks.

- Los Angeles
As I mentioned, we’re here for Beyond Hunger. Pat’s being awarded the Noble Globe award, which is a great honor. Worldbuilders has been in the world doing great work for Heifer International for almost 8 years now, and in honor of that we’re going to a fancy awards ceremony, where Pat is going to wear a tux and everything.
Warning: if you put Pat Rothfuss in a tuxedo, he will begin to pontificate almost immediately. pic.twitter.com/VN3IMndzXR

It’s going to be a very posh event, and I’ll probably be embarrassed while Pat cusses a little more than is entirely proper during his acceptance speech.
Since he’s in the area, Pat’s doing a signing at The Last Bookstore. It’s a really cool place, and you can do a Google Street View tour of it over here.
It’s going to be a good time. Here are the details:

And then in about two weeks he’ll be doing a tour with Paul and Storm and Joel Hodgson.
It’s going to be an awesome time. They have stops in Philadelphia, Alexandria, Brooklyn, and Somerville. At the concerts, the above image will be available as a poster, but if you can’t make it, don’t worry.
We’ve got a bunch of these posters signed by Paul, Storm, Joel, and Pat. If you can’t make it, but want to look cool to your friends, you can buy your own signed Nerds and Music poster right here in the Tinker’s Packs.

- Minneapolis/St. Paul
Just one weekend later, Pat and the rest of the Worldbuilders team I’ll be in Minneapolis for NerdCon: Stories, which we’ve both gushed about at length over here. It’s going to be a seriously awesome time.
Then there’s the con, which is only two days long. You can see Pat’s whole schedule right here, and you can see everyone else’s schedules on that website as well. There are still a few badges left for NerdCon, so if you’re interested, you’d better check it out quickly…
- Edit: Milwaukee, WI
There’s one more thing in a couple of weeks that should be mentioned: Pat is going to be moderating a talk with Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, the writers of Welcome to Night Vale, while they’re on their tour.
Here’s the info:
Milwaukee, WI 53202

That’s everything on the schedule for the next few weeks. It’s a lot of stuff, so hopefully you’re able to catch Pat if he’s in your area. As for me, I’m going to go to a fancy dinner where I’ll mock Pat for eating the entire little cheese, including the rind…

Just saw that google is matching donations for the migrant/refugee crisis. As of this writing, the fundraiser is within a few hundred thousand dollars of its goal. But if anyone wants their donation doubled and Pat’s Mercy Corps fundraiser is already all doubled out, this google fundraiser is still an option, for the moment.

(Cross-posted this on Pat’s previous blog post as well.)
Will Pat be signing things on the East Coast music tour?
Yup!
So Pat eats the cheese rinds, fine. But does he eat the core of his apples?!
So when a tour post goes up I usually just skim because I don’t want to be sad about not being able to see Pat, but I don’t want to complain either. So I skimmed, and saw Philadelphia… the city where I live… and I screamed. Seriously I can’t be more excited.
also is it greedy to ask him to sign the Wise Man’s Fear AND Princess and Mr. Whiffle?
Nope. Totally legit.
I have a ticket to see the Nerds & Music thing in Alexandria, but what is this show supposed to be, exactly? I’ll jump at a chance to see Joel Hodgson and Pat Rothfuss, obviously; they could be eating corn on the cob and bantering for an hour and I’d pay $40 for the chance to be there in person, but despite literal minutes of research, I can’t figure out what’s supposed to happen. Is it Joel & Pat: the Musical(feat. Paul & Storm)? Is it a “comedy/music” show, followed by Pat and Joel independently speaking, or are the two of them going to be interacting?
I was at the Portland, OR show. Joel did a funny presentation, with slides of his childhood fascination with ventriloquism and how that (eventually, circuitously, entertainingly) led to Mystery Science Theater 3000. Pat did his usual book signing schtick, including a very funny reading of something he wrote ages ago about verboten guinea pigs in his dorm room (that I’m afraid I’ve heard too many times now, but that’s my problem–I used to live in Wisconsin). He took questions from the audience via little cards, and he ALMOST answered my question about proprioception. Paul & Storm have a whole musical act, natch.
And yes, they did interact, all of them. With each other and with the audience. It was a little of this, a little of that and a lot of geekjoy. I didn’t see any corn on the cob, but there was a discussion of charcuterie. Much bantering.
Hey, thanks a bunch. This sounds like the exact thing I wanted to see.
Pat! Thank you for supporting Jenny Lawson’s new book in this video!

Something to read while we’re waiting for you!
Seriously, if you haven’t read Jenny’s books you are missing out.
While researching medieval Italian swordmanship, I stumbled across this photograph:
You didn’t happen to travel back in time and become an Italian weapons master at some point, did you, Pat?
My brain has been doing this to me all day, but I haven’t been able to come up with anything better:
Posh Pat pontificates profoundly, people perplexed.
I truly appreciate and commend you for using your platform for compassionate works. Hopefully, we will see the suffering in Syria start to wind down as more countries open there doors to refugees. I also would like to encourage you to consider some of the wonderful charities we have here in the US. You need not look far to find people suffering and in need.
Pat, it breaks my heart seeing you in motion. You remind me sooo much of Trapis, and his basement.
“Sometimes it seemed that Trapis alone was trying to care for all the hopeless creatures in our corner of Tarbean.”
It’s the same for you, but with the whole world. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, Pat. Even if you can’t save everyone, your actions have definitely saved many, and that counts for something. A great deal of something, to all the people that matter.
Hi Amanda! Is Pat going to be at the World Fantasy Convention this year? He is listed as a Registered Member on the WFC site, but I can’t find any mention of it on this blog/tour schedule. Thanks!
