Kubo and the Two Strings

Okay folks. I just needed to share this with you. I’m guessing a lot of you haven’t seen it yet.

It is not possible for me to be more excited about this movie than I already am. I couldn’t be more excited if they announced they were bringing Firefly back.

I love Laika (the studio making the movie). Nobody does what they do. It’s entirely stopmotion animation. They are absolutely insane, and I love them for the depth and breadth of their insanity.

I got to visit their studio last year, and got to see them doing work on this movie before they’d made an announcement about it. It’s going to be so good. Everything they do is so good.

Please watch it. Come be excited with me.

Box Trolls is their most recently released film, I believe.

You convinced me to finally watch Boxtrolls, and I just had to say…thanks! That was fun.

Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Coraline. All beautiful.

“Coraline” was their first, then they made “Paranorman,” then Boxtrolls. All great, but Paranorman is my favorite.

I can’t wait to see this movie! I love Laika! Watching ParaNorman at Halloween has become tradition at my house.

I should have known you’d be all over this. I keep re-watching all the trailers and am so excited (as are my kids). It looks like there’s a strong story in a story element to it and really, it’s just beautiful.

I could see a show or movie adaptation of Kingkiller as claymation like this. I just can’t see actors getting it right. This would be such a great medium to bring your creation to life. IMO of course.

Now that is the best idea I’ve seen in a long time. I can’t see humans in the roles either

Lovely! I can’t wait, it looks beautiful. And such a great cast for the voices.

Haha, the samurai/warrior guy as some sort of stag beetle is a great look.

I saw a youtube trailer for this a few weeks ago and have been excited for it ever since!
Storytelling magic assisted by origami and music, and the antagonists are creepy mask-wearing shadow things? Every single piece of this is wonderful.

Wait—ENTIRELY stop-motion?! Like, the water and everything? Cuz if so, this…is…insanity.

That is an unreal instrumental cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Curses I can’t edit comments. I’ve been waiting for this since the teaser and I’m so glad somebody else shares my obsession with this studio!

Wow, I thought I was excited about this movie before, but then I read this:
“I couldn’t be more excited if they announced they were bringing Firefly back.”
Holy crap. If I don’t see this movie I’ll die.

I saw this trailer, and my first thought was “Patrick Rothfuss should see this.” Mythic storytelling, beautiful animation, and musical magic — I should have known you’d have seen it way before anyone else.

I actually saw this preview yesterday at the movies. I really liked the art style and concept of the movie with its magic. Now that you posted this I’m now a bit more intrigued and look forward to its release. So with that said I will gladly be excited with you!

I sent a link of this blog entry to my brother-in-law who works at Laika. He thanks you. It’s their first movie not book-based and are so excited about it.
