Our Best Launch Ever: The First Four Days….

It’s day four of the fundraiser. And as I write this, we’ve just crested up over the top of 70,000 dollars. With our matching money, that means we’ve already raised over $140,000 and hit our $100K stretch goal: Launching my new website (a little earlier than we’d planned.)

At some point this weekend we’ll be flipping the switch on that so y’all can look around at the new coolness, kick the tires a little, and…. to be honest… probably see some things that aren’t working the way we’d intended. Think of this as a very solid beta launch…

More importantly, this blog is a reminder that this year I’m not posting everything that goes up in the fundraiser on this blog. Instead, the Worldbuilders Team has taken over a lot of the information distribution over on their website. You can follow their blogs right here, and keep an eye on the lottery library to see what’s being added to the fundraiser every day.

For example, on Tuesday they posted a ton of cool geekery from Badali Jewelry and Valyrian Steel.

valyrian-steel-swag(Click on the photos and you can read all about them…)

Wednesday they featured a ton of signed books donated by authors….

author-donatedAnd today we’re putting in over 600 games into the lottery where every $10 dollars you donate gets you a chance to win. (And then gets doubled, too.)

games-day-1

So right now we’ve got nearly 900 prizes in the lottery worth over $33,000. And we’re only just barely four days into our festivities.

If you want to keep seeing everything as it comes it, keep an eye on the Worldbuilders website.

  • Twitch News:

As many of you already know, I’ll be on my Twitch chanel, streaming every night from 4pm-7pm CST to promote the charity.

So far, I’ve played the alpha version of Hero’s Song, only sucked a little in Overwatch, and performed a writing Q&A so intense it almost cost me my voice.

Future plans include inviting Sarah onto the stream for Date night (tonight), playing Witcher 3, and generally getting up to all sorts of hijinks. Hell, things might actually escalate to the point of full-blown shenanigans by early next week.

If you want to be part of that, you can sign up for notifications for when I start streaming.

Simply go to my twitch channel and click “Follow” then turn on notifications.

Um… Amanda? Can you tuck in a graphic to show them what I’m talking about?

followpat

notifyme

(Here you go, Boss.)

Thanks much Amanda, that’s very… high tech of you. um… maybe not pick a screencap where I look quite so dumb next time?

We’re going to start letting people vote on what I do during each stream as soon as we have the technology to do that. Which is sure to lead to absolute madness. You don’t want to miss the madness, do you?

With that in mind, any ideas for fun things you’d like to see on the stream? Share them in the comments below…

Oh, and also, I’m just going to put a link to the donation page here.

And a link to all our current auctions here.

I’m sure you can figure out what to do with those…

I really enjoyed when you streamed the Unattended Consequences. I think you playing tak with someone would be good too. I also look forward to the return of the daily drawings with special guest Amanda.

Oh, and more polls please. A stream full of polls.

More importantly, thank you for streaming. I know I’m not the only person who really appreciates your effort.

It would be interesting to hear you tell an improvised story. Maybe ask a few suggestions that you have to include in the story. Or not. Ooh, and as a bonus you could end the story with a “In today’s story..” a la He-man.

I second this, maybe have it interactive and poll the stream on which direction the story should go.

Stretch goal idea: An honest to god by Hoyle update on how the writing is coming along for Book 3.

No judgment, we promise. We’re just curious. And you know people would open up their wallets for it.

    Thanks for your consideration. Cheers.

That won’t happen anytime soon. I can tell you about the feedback by fanboys though, they’ll go “Don’t you know a book takes time to be completed? Pat needs time to finish book three properly! Also, he owes you fawk all hey! Aye, he stated he had finished all three books back in 2007 – http://fantasyhotlist.blogspot.it/2007/03/patrick-rothfuss-interview.html – SO WUT? Pat, don’t listen to these whining tossers, feel free to go back to playing videogames and kickstarting Auri soap bars.”

Finally bought the Draccus for King of Tokyo. I keep looking at it, and thinking about it. Finally just did it. I think I’ll make it a Christmas gift for my husband.

So, I’m not sure where the best place to put this is, but I just want to make people aware that if they’re feeling a little stretched for cash but still want to help Worldbuilders they can easily donate a little whenever they buy from amazon by using their smile page

Pat, it’d be really neat if you talked about what you did for the people who received the golden rings from past years’ fundraisers. I’ve always been curious what a gold ring favor actually ended up being.

Where would we put suggestions for stretch goals? I would really like some NotW bookends if they were to become available! Also, jackness above me had a great idea as well about the golden rings.

You can put stretch goal ideas here, too….

Hey Pat – how about a challenge to say if you raise $x (a real push target) you’ll do a live stream about some key things to expect in book 3 and a rough non-guaranteed idea of when it may go for editing? I bet it would raise some significant cash….

I check this website about every other year for updates on Book Three. I’m not even slightly surprised that Rothfuss is doing everything but writing.

Rothfuss has said from day one that his book is about the how stories evolve. The true events that turn into myths and legend. Well, in real life, there are no satisfying conclusions where all the mysteries get solved and everyone lives happily ever after.

The ending to this series is going to be deeply unsatisfying and Rothfuss knows it. He’s riding the gravy train while he can. So go ahead, keep putting coin in his purse while he wastes your time.

Why the heck do you care that much, then? Just leave us here and never come back.

Pat is a wonderful author, an incredibly funny bloke, a good person, and I don’t care if it takes long to finish the book. I love his first two books to death and back already, he’d continue to have my admiratiok even if book three never came out. Or if it was shitty. Ok, maybe not then, but seeing as the first two books were everything but shitty, i dont see a big chance of the third one being. It may not be the ending I wish for or expect or maybe the moral will be that real greatness just isnt that great, even in stories. Whatever. I don’t care (mostly). The first two books were extraordinary.
Thank you, Pat, for writing them. And thank you for worldbuilders. It gets people to do good and still have some sort of other thing from it than feeling good.

And you, just go now and never come back.

My tagline for this charity has become “Bees. And goats.” along with “You can give the world more bees and goats!” because, well. Bees. And goats. BEES AND GOATS.

Just won the signed copy of Curse of the Crimson Throne! Just curious, are just monetary donations being doubled? Or are the dollar values of the auction items being doubled as well?

The auctions are being doubled as well! Once all of the auctions for the night are over we’ll be adding them to our total :)

Are there currently any plans to make the Kvothe Litograph design available in either the Tinker’s Packs or Litograph’s own site? I missed out on the chance to get one during the Geeks Doing Good fundraiser, but I was hoping to order one before Christmas. This one, for reference: https://blog.patrickrothfuss.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Litographs.jpg

Congrats on the amazing progress of the fundraiser! Proud to be a part of it.
