Total Party Kiss and Architect Update.

Heya everybody,

Quick post today, as I only have two hours before I’m going to be playing some D&D over on my twitch stream at 2:00 CST today with these fabulous people….

Aaand apparently I can’t upload the title card. Great. Great great. Ugh. It seems like every time I try to post up a blog, even a quick one. It involves 30-40 minutes of me writing things, and two hours of me trying to sort out technical problems and getting formatting to not be shit.

*sigh* Fine. I’ll just use that title card for twitter. Instead I’ll just say that it’s the follow up to this game that we did back in December. Those of you who watched it might remember it as the session where someone (it might even have been me) coined the term, Total Party Kiss.

So… yeah. Feel free to show up and watch us D&D it live later today if you like.

In other news, we’re finishing up the behind-the-scenes work for the Worldbuilders Architects program. (If you don’t know what that is, you can look over here.) We want it to be something special, and so we’ve been looking into what we can do to make it a good experience AND also have it run as smoothly as possible.

Right now one of the main things we’ve discovered is that I can never. EVER spell the word “Archetects” right on the first try. And, in fact, I can misspell it up to 5 different ways in a single newsletter.

But yeah. Despite these hurdles, we’re putting the final touches on our initial e-mail, that lets you know what’s up, and includes a poll so we can gather your thoughts about what you’d really like out of Archetects in the coming year so we can focus our energies there. So if you’re signed up, keep an eye out for that in the next day or two.

Thirdly and lastly, if you’re into newsletters, or just want news and don’t mind it coming in a letter-y format, you can sign up for a couple over here.

That’s all for now, Gotta go dig up my character sheets and dust off those dice.

I design architectural acoustics, and I have to write the term “speech intelligibility” in almost every report I write for work. I’m pretty sure I have never spelled it the same way twice- intelligilibility, intellibiliy, inteligiliby, etc. It’s some form of irony.

Be that as it may, the job of designing architectural acoustics has to be one of the most intruiging (there, that’s my word… The u just never seems to be in the right place for me) jobs ever. There’s something magical about making invisible waves do what you want them to. It’s probably the closest you can get to knowing the name of the wind without actually knowing it.

I realize now that I am extremely late to the game but, I recently finished reading your first Kingkiller novel. My brother-in-law has been insisting I read it since it is one of this favorite books. Although I have joined the crowds of kingkiller fans, eager to read the next books in the series, perhaps my timing is perfect. With all the impatience that has built in the past decade for the release of The Doors of Stone, I get to align my reading pace for the next few books, wrapping them up (hopefully) in time for your new release. Anyway, I realize you have been given a lot of flack for taking time to perfect your next novel, but given that you have had to work against personal struggles, a pandemic, and now the unique pressure of a decades worth of impatient fans, I simply wanted to say: I honor the efforts you are putting in to seeing your story through, taking the time to create a work that YOU can feel good (or perhaps just good enough-an artist is never finished) about releasing. At any rate, I am excited to continue the journey with Kvothe and as soon as I hear whispers of a release date in the wind, I will be ready to pre-order a book for my brother-in-law (he’s going to nerd out so hard!) and for myself. Best of luck!

Hey Pat, I finished The Wise Man’s Fear today in one of my classes, and I’ve spent the past hour or so reading everything I can find about book 3 online. I’m not going to beg and plead for a release date, I just have a question: Where should I go next while I wait for book 3?

    Pat,

Your comment of time division (40 minutes writing / 2hrs troubleshooting) made me think of a question I overheard the other day:
“When are we going to stop letting the machines win?”
Intrigued, I continued listening as the speaker elaborated, “Every time you are out driving and the GPS gets you lost, or the printer doesn’t print when you need it to, or [or Pat’s blog doesn’t post when he’s short on time] then the machines have won. When are we going to stop accepting that?
Food for thought – I can think of a hundred reasons why that’s the “wrong” question… but just a few of why it’s the right question, the right way to look at it, and right up your alley.
    Cheers,
    Austin

This is probably overstepping… :) and not related to this post – this just is the first way I’ve found to contact you.

I recently read that you had worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda on music for the trilogy in whatever screen-based form it takes on (I sure hope!) – and that it didn’t work out. I immediately thought of another musician: Chris Thile, a master mandolin player and songwriter. Whenever I read or listen to your books, I now imagine his music as part of it… it just fits.

I imagine you or someone else may have already considered Chris Thile, but I couldn’t resist submitting this comment JUST IN CASE.

Always enjoying your work, sir. Tehlu bless you.

some updates about a chapter being released would be cool! Kinda felt like that’s what we all rallied to pay for at the EOY fundraiser. I’m very happy my money went to a good cause, don’t get me wrong. But the silence on that stretch goal promise is getting a little weird I guess.

    Hope you’re well!

Thanks for the short blog. It’s always nice when you write in detail about your streams. I bet sometimes you don’t get to write about what you think. Take advantage of the writing help center, they can edit your blog and check for grammatical errors any time of the day or night.

Some news about when a new chapter is coming out would be cool. At the end-of-year fundraiser, it seemed like that’s what everyone was trying to pay for. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad my money went to a good cause. But I guess it’s getting a little strange that no one is talking about that stretch goal promise.
