Heading to Minneapolis: Take II

Alright, barring another bout of food poisoning, significant natural disaster, or some especially portentous omens, I will be heading up to Minneapolis this Saturday.

I’ll be at Uncle Hugo’s from 1-3. I’ll be signing books and generally just hanging around. I’m also planning on being witty, but that is largely contingent on whether or not I’m able to find a coffee place on my way to the store. Without coffee, I’ll have to settle for looking charmingly bewildered, quickly fading into sluggishness, incoherence, and death.

After that I’m going to be doing a gorilla signing at Dreamhaven. By this I mean I intend to show up and thump violently at my chest to establish my alpha male status. This plan is also contingent on finding a coffee shop after leaving Hugo’s. Without caffeine I expect my ploy for primacy will fail. If that’s the case you’ll probably find me submissively grooming one of the burlier cashiers. Baring that, I’ll probably be lurking around, signing stock somewhere in the store between 3:30-4:30.

This means if you really want a signed copy of the book, you can now order it online from Dreamhaven. What’s more, you can even have me personalize it, if you order before Saturday and include what you want me to write when you order the book.

In other news, I’ll be making updates to the page in the next couple days. We’re going to post up several interviews, podcasts, and reviews that have been accumulating over the last couple weeks. I’ll also be updating the tour schedule page. So stay tuned….

Stephanie: I have had a few people do this, usually because they have formed a sentimental attachment to the book they’ve read. I can understand that. However, I’ve had about a half dozen people start to do this, then realize it’s not worth the trouble and just order one online instead. Problem is, you have to pay postage both ways if you send it to me. AND you have to package the book twice. Most people decide it’s just easier to buy a new copy online. But yeah. If you really want to do it the other way, e-mail me.

Pat,I’m not quite done with the book yet but it’s a really refreshing change of pace. I’m loving every minute of it, thanks! On the whole book tour, signing thing. Finding out that ones new favorite author is as close as Madison but doesn’t bother to come to Milwaukee is both exciting and frustrating!Hope to see you in Milwaukee, else you’ll force me to bring a 9 month old to a signing out of town and you don’t want that because she’s sure to be grumpy. Thanks for the great read. Almost makes me wish I went to Madison ;)

My book is still at Uncle Hugo’s waiting for you to sign. I have to work at the library that day, but I’ll see if I can bribe my boss and get enough time to drive over to the Uncle’s for a quick chat. Head across Chicago Avenue to the Midtown Exchange for food and coffee after you’re done signing at Hugo’s. There’s a great food court over there, just ask Don. Hope I can swing by and say Hi, but either way, the book rocks! Keep writing!

Dearest Pat,I hope all of your fans appreciate that you will be missing gaming to sign books for them. That is a true sign of how dedicated you are to them. (Or it may be a reflection of how bad the game is.)Um..right! In any event, have a swell time in the mini apple.Todd

Patrick…I just stumbled upon your book in the bookstore today…the cover art is actually what drew me in…your prologue is AMAZING and based on that alone I purchased the book…I’m a longtime reader of the fantasy genre…been reading them since the mid to late 80’s (I’m 28 now) and I just wanted to tell you how inspirational your writing has become to me…I’m working hard on my first novel…its tough juggling the daily grind (50+ hour work week), and the daily goings on in life and still finding the time to write but EVERYDAY I push on…your successes and achievements give me renewed hope that it is still possible to separate your work from all of the watered down fantasy out there right now and make an impact…become a “new star” so to speak…even your “thank you” page moved me…it reminded me of something I want to say on the very same page in my first novel…anyway I’m looking forward to delving deeper into your world and I’m sure I’ll be anxiously awaiting the second novel =) in the series…

Pat, caffeine or no caffeine, your primacy ploy probably won’t work here at DreamHaven, because we’re staffed with alpha females this Saturday. (We kick a**, rather than thumping chest.) However, I have no objection to chest-thumping, as long as it doesn’t frighten the customers.

I can’t make it to either signing tomorrow. Dang! Hope you have a good trip, Pat. That means I can’t make it to DreamHaven for their 30% off sale either. Dang. Hope you have a lot of customers, Elizabeth.

I am sorry to have read this a day too late, but I was holed up in my house reading the book! It’s incredible, but I suppose you’ve heard that a lot already. Best thing since I read the Wizard of Earthsea. Your writing is just as good as your story. Thanks. I plan to post about it.

Mmmmmm….Coffee. Always makes me feel charming, and agressive all at the same time too, and here I thought it was just me. You are a braver soul then I though, to get up in front of people and do readings and signings I think I’d need a little something extra in my coffee. Mmmm….Bailey’s.
