A change in today’s book signing plans.

The plan for today was for me to drive up to Minneapolis and do signings at Uncle Hugo’s and
Dreamhaven.

Unfortunately, I seem to have come down with some sort of flu bug, or a case of food poisoning, or I have angered some sort of vengeful old testement god. It’s been a rough night, and even if the storm has passed, and I hope has, I just can’t make it. If there’s one thing worse than being violently ill, it’s being violently ill during a four hour drive to Minneapolis.

Plus, for all I know, this might be contageous. Quite aside from the fact that I don’t want to make people sick in general, I’m doubly horrified by the thought of people getting sick after meeting me and buying my book. For some reason I can picture this experience written up as a review on Amazon:

I met Pat at Uncle Hugo’s, where I bought his book and got it signed. He’s a nice guy with a warm handshake, but you can tell he’s passionate about his writing by the fevored glint in his eye. I started reading The Name of the Wind as soon as I got home. The first fifty pages were great. The second fifty were even better. Then my guts clenched and I spent eight hours hunched over my toilet cursing the name of the only author who has ever made me physically ill with his writing. Negative three stars.

I’m sorry for all of you who were planning on attending. But I’m hoping to reschedual as soon as possible. Maybe even next weekend. I’ll post something up here as soon as we manage to set that up.

My honey is sick too. They say Strept throat is going around. I am healthy. I owe it to daily vitamin D3. So, here’s a hint. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=51913 Hope you feel better soon, Pat. PS Hours of 1-5 am are great for peaceful work on the computer. Not good for the immune system, however.

We were all sorry you couldn’t make it to Minneapolis, but everyone that came to Uncle Hugo’s seemed quite understanding about it all. We hope to see you another time and hope you’re feeling better.

Yikes…there’s not much worse than a stomach virus for short term misery. My own personal prevent-all would be Airborne and frequent application of hand sanitizer when I’m around the walking germs (heh heh) I mean my students or any other crowd. I hope you’re feeling better!

It’s Minneapolis. It breeds disease. Thus I propose a trip to california instead, where we do not inspire disease, and enjoy your works as well!

Laura, Your comment is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long while. I appreciate your concern for the quality of my writing, if not my health. In that light, I would just like to reassure you that whatever self-destructive activities I’m currently engaging in I’ll make sure to continue at least until the trilogy is done. pat

Sorry to hear you were under the weather. My family just passed that flu around the house for a good week and a half ourselves. So I can truly sympathize. I hope you are bouncing back quicker than I am.

laura that is a hilarious post…much like Pat I find myself doing most of my writing/internet activity during the wee hours of the morning…I stay up until at least 3am everyday so I guess I can relate…then again I’m addicted to crystal meth myself…..really though the only drug in my life is caffeine….and i must admit that I’m highly addicted…Dunkin Donuts especially…I can thank my wife for introducing me to it 10 years ago….
