My Book, the Movie…

.

I forgot to mention this when it happened, so I’ll mention it now.

I did an interview with a cool site called MY BOOK, THE MOVIE.

If you’re interested in different author’s daydreams on the subject of turning their books into films, you should go check it out.

P.S. After you’ve finished reading the interview, I’d be curious who y’all thing would be good casting choices for the various characters in the book. Post them in the comments below and let’s geek out a little.

I know I´m late, but the girl who played River Tam in Firefly was who I instantly thought of for Auri when reading the book.

I think maybe Lucas Grabeel would be good as Kvothe. I just saw him in the series “Switched at Birth”, and he does really good with red hair.

I have a pretty strict rule of not seeing the movie of any book i’ve loved, or reading the book of any movie that i loved, it can ruin both if one is terrible. I made this rule in highschool and have since brokenit twice; first to read Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club, which turned into a very pleasant surprise! So i broke it a second time and read Eragon; i love the books but have never been able to watch the movie again, so rule reinstated.
    However!
Wow natalie Portman as Denna, thats so much better than who i had in my head! The Denna in my head as i was reading is closest resembled by Tawny Kitaen (around “The Bachelor Party” days, rather than Hercules the Legendary Journeys days).
For Wilem the man i was imagining in my head is pretty much a dead ringer for you Mr.Rothfuss!
Elodin in my head was a mutant cross of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka and David Tennant’s Doctor.
Curse me for fool but i cant currently remember the name of the head of the University, however Dustin Hoffman fits quite close to how i imagined him.
Actor wise i cant think of any more that match the picture in my head and i agree that Joss Whedon would be the perfect director and screen play writer for a movie adaption.
I’m sure i’d be happy with any actors as long as they arent from the cast of any Twilight movie. Or Will Ferrell
And i’d definately break my rule to see it.

    – (in a couple of years) Callan McAuliffe as Kvothe
    – Andrew Garfield as Simmon. I bet he’d get the personality spot on.
    – Stellan Skarsgård as Cinder
    – Jamie Bell as Tempi
    – Johnny Depp as Elodin, that is a great call
    – Natalie Portman as Denna, another great call
    – Alan Tudyk as young Kvothe’s dad
    – Aaron Johnson as Ambrose
    – Ben Barnes as Bast
    – (in a couple of years) Chloë Grace Moretz as Devi
    – Ian Holm or John Rhys Davies as Abenthy
    – Sam Elliot as Count Threpe

Joss Whedon is a nice director, and has made some nice films, but his films are…generic…Im not saying he is not a good film maker, i just dont beleive he fits.
If a movie is to be made of the name of the wind, it needs innovation and itelligence. a beautifully clever script. unique art direction. something that truly captures the essence of the book. Something like the Coen brothers or similar. Also denna and kvothes dialouge would be very important.
and i repeat, the art direction is a must. it cant just look like sets, it has to look real. more than real. it has to be beautiful.
    as for the actors. immersive.
    – kvothe: should look intelligent. i know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but some men just don’t seem as clever as others at first glance.
    – denna: id suggest emma watson as the audacious brunnete
    – Tempi: someone who has the eyes, eyes that can stare. curiosity is key.
auri: obviuosly needs to look cheeky, wild and clever. someone like zooey deschanel, but smaller and younger. big eyes.
    – Elodin: johnny depp would be wonderful, or someone with similar quailties, although i hope if elodin was named as johnny that they wouldnt increase his screentime just to garner more veiwers. and he would have to be very precise. i do not want jack sparrow or willy wonka, i want elodin.
    – Bast: needs ferocity. yet the gentleness of a student. if heath ledger were alive today, hed be perfect, hed would have also made a nice kvothe, but would look ridiculous with red hair.
And ian holm would be lovely as abenthy.
