Something to brighten your geeky day…

So, I’m back from GenCon. And despite the fact that I washed my hands like Lady Macbeth the whole time, I somehow managed to get sick.

Ordinarily, I’m okay with this. It’s one of the risks of attending conventions. Sometimes you get stuck on a panel where you don’t fit in. Sometimes you get trapped in a conversation and have to listen to a guy tell you about his 15th level half-elven ranger/assassin.

And sometimes, if you’re unlucky enough to have me as your arch-nemesis, you get a death threat in your fortune cookie….

… Sometimes you get a cold. It’s all part of the game.

But this time it sucks more than usual. I did Worldcon and GenCon back-to-back this year, so I’ve been away from home for almost two weeks solid. However, because I got sick the day before I came home, I cannot have a joyeux homecoming complete with passionate kissings from Sarah.

No. It is bad for a pregnant lady to get sick. That means when I returned from the airport, Sarah greeted me at the door with a firm handshake and a pat on the head.

Don’t get me wrong. It was a good handshake. But even the best of handshakes cannot help but fall far short of passionate.

So I sit at my computer, sick, kissless, and trying to catch up on 500 unanswered e-mails. What can I possibly find that will lift my spirits?

This:

Yes, Felicia Day is all kinds of awesome. You had to know that already. What this video really did was firmly cement my love for Sandeep Parikh and Jeff Lewis.

Midwest side, my boys. Represent.

I originally found that when someone posted it to your Facebook page, and have watched it several times since. Someone needs to pay Felicia et. al to just create awesome material like this for the benefit of geekdom 24/7.

    Or at least 24/2.

Word Verification: vowraft= new MMO, not at all like Warcraft, yet inexplicably being sued for millions of dollars.

Only you could get such a fortune in your fortune cookie, Pat. Maybe the restaurant fortune cookies were getting back at you for receiving those fancy ones a little while ago?

I empathise with being ill and not being able to kiss your wife – no… wait… let me rephrase…. I’ve never met your wife…
Anyhow…. my hubby finally gets home after 5 (five!) long long weeks away on Saturday and I think I’d have to kill someone if I got ill and couldn’t greet him with… well, you get the idea.
And see me being brave and posting a comment after reading your blog for months :)

Thank you so much for your excellent sessions as Gen Con! It was the only reason I attended the convention and was well worth every penny. I confess I took an extra fortune cookie to share with my own Mrs. at home. I think I may even be able to get her to read your book strictly from the red fortune cookie experience.

So sorry to hear it ended with you getting sick. I was going to send you an email with a link to the new music video to help cheer you up. You’ve posted about being a fan of all things Felicia Day and Sandeep Parikh… but you are already on top of it. Glad to see you sharing the wealth as usual.

Thank you again and get feeling better soon.

Sorry to hear you’re down with the con crud—let’s hope it’s just the three day variety and not flu.

Here, have some virtual chicken soup!(And you and Sarah can get busy on planning your homecoming that will take place once you’re well.)

Oh, Pat was the one handing out fortune cookies. That’s when I had the misfortune of opening one to find it called for my death. I’m not quite sure how the logistics will work out tho…

Now that you’re sick with the con-crud I feel bad to be 1 of 500.

I caught the “Date My Avatar” yesterday. I’ve played that video about 15 times now… Much love for “The Guild” folks.

Did you check out her Flickr set? Especially this “Braniac” photo?

A sweet photo, in itself. But I also mention it because a certain author’s book is shelved center-left.

Yes, it’s her library. She even mentions that the books on the left are hers.

I don’t know about anyone else, but if that were my book, I’d be doing the Happy Dance…!

Well Pat I am very disappointed my brother didn’t get your signature at Gen Con apparently you were hard to find outside of seminars.

My wife had our child Wed, 6 weeks and day early all went well until today when they found a hole in his colon, thank God they fixed it and he will be ok.

So now not only didn’t I get a Rothfuss signature but my baby won’t be home for 6weeks give or take a 2 weeks. I am sorry you are sick and hope you feel better good sir, have an idea I am working on to send you as a gift when I now mail my book to you.

Feel better Pat and make sure you keep your Sarah safe and protect that baby.

    Pat,
Thank you a ton. Today was a hellacious day at work and this did brighten my geeky day. Wish I could have made it to Indiana to meet you personally. Hope you had fun with all them Hoosiers (whatever that is). Get well soon and look forward to reading your newest work soon (Blog or Book, whichever) as it is always entertaining and real.

Warning to those who haven’t seen Date My Avatar (is there anyone left?): You will NOT stop singing it. It absolutely refuses to go out of your head. If you work in an open plan office, DO NOT PLAY THIS SONG. More than, say, 5 times, that is.

Also, I want that +5 sexterity vest, stat.

Sorry I missed you at GenCon this year. My husband and I were set to go, even though the only reason he wanted to go was to go see if Cryptic had a demo set up for the new Star Trek Online game. We couldn’t come because I’m very, very, very pregnant, and we didn’t really want to have the kid at the con. Well, baby still hasn’t shown up and we didn’t get to go. I think I need ice cream now.

Looks like it was a great time, though. Sorry you got sick with geek germs. Feel better soon.

“The Guild’s” one of the smartest and entertaining series of videos I’ve watched in a while. But this video’s definitely one of their best, especially since Felicia Day’s the main focus of the video.

Pat, Don’t you know that con’s are breeding grounds for pathogens? Even if your hand washing conduct is borderline obsessive compulsive. Those germs are still gonna get you and keep you from receiving return kisses once you arrive home. And it’s definitely going to prevent you from ever having Felicia Day arrive at your doorstep, wearing her Codex attire.

Next year, bring a ton of bottles of Purrell. Or you could always steal my OCD mind for the weekend.

You should get Vitamin C supplements. They help your immune system. I’ve been a freshman in college since September, and while everyone I know told me I was going to get sooo many colds my first year, I’ve managed to avoid even a sore throat. Vitamin C is amazing, I’m telling you.
