Important Milestones.

Well folks, I didn’t think we’d be able to do it, but we passed the 20,000 dollar mark on the name raffle. I’ll never doubt you again.

Can I just take a moment to say how awesome y’all are? Yeah. You’re awesome.

Because we hit 20K, I’ll be drawing three winners. But it won’t be for a couple days yet, as we’re waiting for the last of the mailed-in entries to trickle through the postal system. Rest assured that I’ll be posting up the results as soon as I’ve had a chance to chat with the winners.

On a related note, it warms my heart to see so many people rooting for Carly Trowbridge to win. A few people even donated money on her behalf. Extra style points there.

I’ll admit that I’m excited for the drawing, and a little nervous too. There are some great names in there, and others will fit with some tweaking. But a few I can’t think of how I could make them work. If I draw one of those, we’ll be able to work it out, but I don’t relish the thought of telling someone the name of their beloved dead goldfish just won’t work in The Wise Man’s Fear.

In other news, Oot rolled over yesterday. This might not seem like a big deal. But it is. It is a Big Deal. It’s possible that there has never been a bigger deal happen in this house. If you’d been listening outside, you probably would’ve thought Sarah and I were watching the Packer game, or perhaps celebrating man’s first step on the moon or something.

For those of you who have an interest in such things, here’s a picture of him looking very pleased with himself.

That’s all for right now. I’m in the midst of some pretty intensive revisions, so I don’t have much brainspace to spare for being blog-witty. Rest assured there is some profound coolness right around the corner.

Stay tuned,

pat

    “pretty intensive revisions”

Like shrinking down that mammoth-sized manuscript to something bindable?

Hmm… it seems, according to this red squiggly I just got, that bindable does not in fact mean “able to be bound” but rather is not a real word.

    I disagree.

He rolled over! Before you know it he’ll be off to school, then college then who knows what the future holds, maybe he’ll follow in his fathers footsteps (then again maybe not).

    Congrats on the charity success

My wife and I had a similar experience with our first child, though it wasn’t with rolling over. Rather, it was the first post-meconium movement. See, there was concern that she wasn’t eating enough, and getting things started in that arena would be proof that she was doing fine. We were so excited when it finally happened that you’d have thought the Packers won the SuperBowl!

Congratulations on the success of the raffle, and with little Oot’s new-found ability to get to places by rolling. Good luck with the revisions.

It’s quite possible that my letter hasn’t quite gotten there yet. I sent it on Tuesday or Wednesday or last week, but I heard that postage from Georgia to Wisconsin can take five days or longer.

Congrats to Oot!! I remember the day my daughter rolled over. We thought it was the greatest thing ever. Wait till he starts walking. At first it’ll be the coolest thing then after about 4 days you’ll wish for the days when you could set him in his exersaucer or swing and do what you have to do in the house.

Congrats on the fundraising!! That’s great to hear you raised so much.

wow. 20k is indeed alot of money. I kinda feel excluded cuz I didn’t donate anything. I wanted to, but just couldn’t come up with a name I wanted in the book. (No, you don’t want either of my names in there…) So I’m counting on the “officiall” Geeks for Goats fundraiser. =)
Oot really looks cute, I think the beard will grow in time.

Regarding your baby, is precious. Rolling over, sitting, walking, eating… everything will be a victory each time and you are entitled to celebrate them. Congratulations as well for the handsome Oot!

New parents are always rooting for the “movement” milestones.(crawling, rolling over, walking, climbing steps, etc) Parents who’ve been through it a time or two are just the opposite. If they lay still they are much easier to keep out of trouble. Congrats none the less.

Congrats on the charity. You have used your super cool, international best selling authors skills to good use.

And hurray for Oot! When my little girl rolled over for the first time I freaked out and told everyone. It was amazing. Now she’s running all over the house and it takes about five minutes to change her into pajamas. This will happen to you!

Have you taken to carrying a camera with you everywhere yet? You need to have one of those glued to your hands or you’ll miss so many awesome moments. When my little girl was about one she grabbed a waitress’s ass and just looked up at her with the largest grin I have ever seen. I didn’t have my camera so that memory exactly that. I’m going to be pissed if Alzheimer’s ever takes it.

Wooot to Oot!! I was depressed when my daughter first rolled over because that meant we had to stop putting her on top of the table @ the coffee shop while we played chess. When she started walking was when we had to stop GOING to the coffee shop altogether for a couple years, at least. ;P

But congrats, anyway! I think it is amazing your fan-base was able to pull together $20k for this great foundation so props on that as well (and to all of us for contributing)! Yes. Yes I did just pat myself on the back.

    Hi Pat,

I am reading your blog today for the first time in about two months. Normally I would check in daily, or at least weekly, however I’ve been busy in a way you can probably relate to. I just had a baby girl on September 25th and have been much too busy being a mommy to get online.

As such I have missed your wonderful contest… sob! (as in sobbing, not S.O.B.).

My only hope now is that you may consider my daughter’s name under the ‘Cool Name’ option.

We named our baby girl Adalay Belladonna, which we think is very cool, beautiful (like her), and unusual. Hopefully you will think it is as wonderful as we do and consider it to use in your book.

    Cheers,
    Fry Mama

oy! Trowbridge is a girl?! wow…the name by itself sounds like a guy *or a place*, (or maybe it’s just me and a sadly one-sided way of thinking), but I was thinking it without the first name. (Carly just reminds me of iCarly).

Anyhoo! MR. FUSSY, TROWBRIDGE BETTER HAVE A PART IN THE BOOK! (as she said, make it someone’s name, landscape, unruly pet etc…*you should have a pet in there, not necessarily as Trowbridge*). I like “Mr. Fussy” in her notecard.

oh yah, I’ve never seen a baby so pleased with himself. Nice smile Oot!

We are on the verge of first steps at our house. Learning to read is another great milestone–It has been such fun to see our two older children take off it that department.
