And it’s off to the printer….

For those of you who haven’t heard the news, my new pet project is going to be coming out at the end of June.

While I’ve mentioned the book on the blog before, it’s only been while talking about something else, like the fundraiser or my recent road-trip.

Today, after talking about the final edits before we send the book off to the printer, I figured it was time that I give The Princess and Mr. Whiffle its very own blog. Especially as it will be coming out in just a couple months.

The other reason I wanted to mention it here is so that you folks who care enough about my stuff to check the blog regularly have a chance of actually buying one.

So here’s the brief pitch. It looks like a children’s book, but it’s really not. Seriously. It’s more like an old-school faerie tale, and I’m profoundly, almost ridiculously proud of how it’s turned out. If you have a dark sense of humor, odds are you’ll enjoy it. If not, you probably want to avoid it.

Here’s the deal: this book’s print run isn’t very big. And I have a lot of readers. That means there’s a very decent chance that the book will sell out.

In fact, there’s a good chance it might sell out really, really quickly.

That means if you want to make sure you get one, you should probably pre-order a copy. Here’s a link to the publisher’s website.

And before somebody says, “why don’t you just print more books?” let me explain that I’m just the writer here. The publisher makes all those decisions. I don’t have any say in how big the print run is.

Okay. My work here is done. Consider yourselves fairly warned.

Hope y’all have a lovely weekend, folks. Myself, I have to go dress up as Zeus for a parade….

Wonder if heart attach was on purpose. Interesting choice of words. Because I, off course was feeling the same heart ATTACK but I suppose I was also having a heart ATTACH, seeing as though the new book coming out would make me feel all enlived, warm, and happy inside. Like book two would re-attach my heart. Unless you think that I am totally OFF COURSE like my typo for OF COURSE.

Calling first on your own blog! Obviously you don’t know the rules of “The First”! They were established back in the Victorian era when newspaper editorials had to deal with sheaves of letters all saying ‘First!’. Disrespecting the traditional rules is a grave and serious faux-pas that has ruined many a writers career. Lord Byron did it for his last poem, and guess what??? He was dead the next week!*

    But I guess… second.

Be wary of ordering limited prints from Amazon. They tend to oversell and then cancel orders on the back end when they can’t fulfill. I’ve had this happen twice on limited editions like this. I’d recommend going straight to the source if you can.

It’s a picture book. It has illustrations. Illustrations don’t fare well in electronic book formats. I’m no e-book hater (I have probably a hundred books on my Kindle), but I will not get an e-book of anything that isn’t entirely text plain old text-text.

So the Suvudu cagematch is over an Rand al’Thor (from the Wheel of Time) defeated Jaime Lannister (despite what Sarah said). Brandon Sanderson did a post-tournament write up over at his blog. I don’t think I can do html link to the post, so here’s its address: http://brandonsanderson.com/blog/884/Suvudu-Cage-Match-How-It-REALLY-Went-Down

Essentially, since Rand killed Jaime with balefire, the actions Jaime did are undone, including all those he killed in earlier stages of the tournament. Kvothe was back!!!! And what did Brandon say of him?

    >”Kvothe flies in, riding Temeraire, Hermione at his side, and— (I’ve written the second two thirds of this sentence, but I’m not giving them to you yet.)”

    HA.

What the hell man, Wise Mans Fear isn’t even out yet and you still have time for these stupid side projects like an irreverent book and writing for some book geek website? You need to get your priorities straight.

      JUUUST KIDDING!!

Let’s be clear: WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING NOT WORKING IN THE SECOND FUCKING BOOK? And I don’t give a damn if this message makes you waste your time, I’m pretty sure you are already wasting it, writing shit like this. “The Adventure of the Princess and Mr Whiffles”??? Come on man, give us a break, quit the crap and start working for real. We, as your fans and people who have payed your house, deserve more atention than this!

Listen, I liked The Name of the Wind as much as many other people around the world, but I cannot stand you saying that you work 14 hours a day and then realease a fucking shit of a book.

Just get your priorities straight, for God’s sake.

Okay, I can’t quite tell if your cutting around right now. So if you are, ignore this.

But seriously, you are calling a book that hasn’t hit the shelves yet a “fucking shit of a book.” It could be freaking awesome. Given that it’s by Pat, I’m sure that I am right.

And by the way, authors tend to work on more than one project at once. Why? Well, let’s say Pat finished a round of revisions for Wise Man’s Fear and sent it off to his agent. What’s he to do while he await his agent’s response? Twiddle his thumbs? No, he’s gonna give his fans something else to enjoy!

So the bottom line is: To everyone that is complaining about Pat wasting his time when he could be working on Wise Man’s Fear, kindly shut the fuck up. Thank you.

        Dear “john,”

The story and text of “The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle” were written by Mr. Rothfuss about 8 years ago, at which time I’m guessing you were still getting most of your nutrition from breast milk.

From what I gather, Patrick’s involvement in the book since writing it has been limited to helping out his illustrator with quick comments in stolen moments while he toils on another novel that is both wondrous and exciting.

The idea that the release of a side project is somehow an affront to your sensibilities is laughable. You are a child, and I will not accept your bleating when you have neither the decency or the understanding to comprehend the circumstances.

        Profoundly,

This is the second time you did this, but there is one thing that really bugs me.. Why do you say (or write) “a couple months” when it should be “a couple of months”? This seems to be a trend of some sort in America because I saw the similar ‘error’ a number of times in a book called “Living Oprah.” Let me tell you it annoyed me so much. Isn’t it grammatically incorrect??

    • Ethan Lineberger

just using a couple without of is an accepted Americanism in informal communication. As this is a blog which by i’s nature is informal, therefore is “grammatically okay” to use a couple without “of”.

Pre-ordered! I intended to wait with ordering until amazon.co.uk would have it in stock to reduce shipping costs. (Nothing that the Great Zeus/Pat has any control over…. as you say: it’s all in the hands of the publisher) But I don’t want to run the risk of not getting my hands on a copy.

By the way, didn’t Zeus only wear a loincloth? I hope it will be good wheather!

Wow! What a wonderful cover you got there! I am sure this book is as astonishing as its cover and i really can’t wait to hold it in my hands! I must say patrick, that I couldn’t be happier when I heard this news, and I want to thank you far all your effort and dedication.

What a great point you’re making John! After reading your comment for the second time; I am even more convinced that what you’ve said is totally right. From here on in I’m going to cancel my order of Princess and Mr. Whiffle, burn my copy of Name Of The Wind and refuse to buy Wise Man’s Fear when it comes out.

      JUUUST KIDDING!

Grow up and get over yourself; Patrick is not your personal servant or story-maker and can therefore write whatever he wants whenever he wants. Reality (you know, the place where the rest of us live (most of the time)) does not work in your favour.

In addition to what Kate said.

I’m sure that everyone even our beloved authors sometimes have days where they don’t like there job (Pat wrote a blog about it last year). They have people telling them that they should stop reading on the toilet because they should be sitting at their computer focusing on what they should write so you can read in your down time.

Everyone needs that down time to do something they enjoy. If Pat or anyone else for that matter wants to take a break from their day job and write a story they should be able to without people telling them that they shouldn’t have a life, shouldn’t do fun things they enjoy because it makes you wait longer to enjoy your life and your break from your day job.

If Authors waited to write ideas and new books after a series or novel was finished they would have to start from scratch every time rather then have a draft under way. And that would mean you had to wait longer for the next novel or series.

So many questions that maybe you as fans can help me with. Why is it that some part of me agree’s with John? Am I a closet turdlette(see past Pat rant)? I saw the video of Pat saying he was not worried about book two because it was already written. Did I miss something there? He does know how long it will take because he just put his first book out. I think I’ve read every blog and I don’t remember him ever coming up with the reason for this statement. I understand the wife bit, having a baby(cute kid but don’t know how the name will play out in school) fame and fortune, ect. All a lot to deal with but come on. Is he going the way of Jordan’s WOT and lengthing it because the editor want more books(money)? Is he going Martin and stuck in some bathroom with a swollen head while smelling the rose fragrances of his own crap? Let us hope that he won’t go the way of young Paolini and go Hollywood and ruin, what could be a great series. I guess my biggest question is as fans do we have any rights or just courtesies? I paid money for the first book, do I have the right to know when to expect the next one? I’ll read your blogs about life, smile at pictures of your kid, donate to your charities, even look at your new book but at least have the courtesy of giving me a real date as to when I will get the next book.

You aren’t getting a publishing date because there isn’t one. Unfortunately you are finding yourself a victim of a young authors inexperience. He thought the series was basically finished. He was mistaken. The book is in the revision stages. He is becoming intimately acquainted with editor’s markup.

Just be patient. Do you really think he deliberately misled you? What benefit would there be in going down that road. The guy is a “polisher”. He is going to grind the novel until its as smooth as glass. No amount of clamor is going to change that.

Oot is not the child’s actual name. Its so Pat can talk about his kid while maintaining some privacy.

Steve, thanks for not shedding any light on my questions and making excuses. We all know that there is no release date but with already knowing that one book has been published and knowing that he has been in” revisions” for three years, you would think that his publisher and him could come up with a approximate release date. How do you go from as you said thinking the series is done to “polishing” for three years with no clue when it will be done. I also don’t know if he was trying to mislead us and neither do you. And as for his son’s name, until you know it, I quess you don’t know how it will work out for him in school. So Steve, maybe you could answer this question; Do you think fans or readers deserve anything from authors? Such as, timely sequels, approximate release dates, sequels that do not have any or all the characters from the previous book ie Martin, series intentionally lengthened just to make money. Or we maybe we should just be happy with what we get whenever we get it(don’t mess with the artist). Please let me know.

I don’t know what I did that got you all fired up. I thought I was helping out. My bad.

I want to read the novel as much as the next guy but do you really think you are accomplishing anything by crying about it in a blogs comment area? Everyone works differently and at different paces.

What is the point of saying he MIGHT be finished with it in Nov of 2010? What if he blows the deadline? Are you going to say “well at least he told us an approximate date before he fudged it. I feel so much better knowing that they gave me an inaccurate guesstimate for the novel’s completion.” That is just silly.

I do not feel an artist owes their fans anything but their best effort artistically. What I mean by that is the purest representation of their artistic vision, be it writing, music or whatever. I don’t want some half cocked rushed to completion placebo. I want something spectacular and if I have to wait a while, I’m sure I can find other artistic ventures to keep me entertained. He is losing money by not releasing a book. He has guys like you who are starting to turn. There is nothing to gain by pissing off your fan base. The only way to protect yourself as an artist is to put out a superior product.

Listen I read Martin too. I get what you are saying. The guy has way too many irons in the fire and now you see Rothfuss meandering down a similar road. I just don’t think you can place any time limits on a particular persons muse. If they want to work they will. If they don’t your hosed. It sucks being at the mercy of someones work ethic/creative ability.

I apologize if you have taken my comments as rude or inane. I guess I will be quiet and keep my thoughts to my self. It seems to work out better for me since thoughts are often misinterpreted on the internet.

Also, I don’t presume to be speaking for Pat, but here are my thoughts, speaking as someone who is really, really, beyond excited and impatient for the rest of the series:

      1. As you probably would agree (since you liked the first book enough to be upset about waiting for the second), the first book was excellent. And the series has the potential to be, seriously, one of the greats of all time. An actual capital-C Classic. Tolkien, Lewis, LeGuin, Pullman, but then also actually MORE FUN than those. If you have that opportunity, you don’t want to screw it up. You get it right the first time, and make sure that it’s polished, as Steve said, like glass.

      2. As Pat HAS said previously (although I summarize/paraphrase), in order to do the optimal job on those revisions, he needs to be his own sane humorous self, and to have a life outside of the Four Corners. That takes time.

      3. And yes, I do have to remind myself that my rabid fandom of the first book does not entitle me to a second book, let alone a publishing date for a second book. I know there are readers out there who will only risk their reading time on completed series. I’m not there yet.

haha yeah, I agree. Oot’s a pretty shit name. Even if its temporary or for privacy or w/e. And wow, I hope Steve is Rothfuss under a different name cuz otherwise, well wow. Excess loyalty? In which case Rothfuss is probably…I think it was “aglow with geeky joy.” Must be cool having a random dude defend you passionatley against perfectly valid arguments.

Let’s be honest, three years is a long time to write a book let alone revise one. I’ve never written a book and the most writing i’ve ever done on a single piece is 5000 words and yes I know essays are different than books and yes I believe books are harder to write but it takes me around a day to plan out, find quotes, and write a decent paper of say 2000 words on a subject im pretty educated on. Another day would probably find better quotes, better research and make a very good paper. A third one would make it excellent. With 300000 thousand words, doing the math would make it 900 days, more than 150 days short of three years. And before anyone goes on about how that math proves nothing, and I agree, the argument is pretty shit, thats for WRITING a book. Book was written. I know loads of changes were made ect. But come on.

      Just saying.

        Posted April 22, 2010 at 9:24 PM | Permalink

Seriously, why don’t you write a novel and see how long it takes? Anything original takes longer than any school essay with “quotes” . All you’re doing is analyzing or making an argument not creating a coherent plot and characters.

I never really understood why fans thought they deserve to know when the next book is coming out. It just creates pressure and annoys the author to the point where he or she doesn’t want to write anymore. Deal with it, the author could (knock on wood) die anytime, and where would you be? Back here, with no book 2. I know some people think rushing motivates people, but really go read Nora Roberts or James Patterson then. Those people churn out books like crazy, but no one would say any of the books would be equal to Name of the wind in terms of length or intricate ploting.

Pat could have just gave up and said “guys I’m never going to write part 2” and you guys would just have to take it. What are you going to do make him?

Readers don’t really deserve anything from authors(except some respect which I think Pat has). You paid for a book, the author delivered a book to you. I find it hilarious that buying book 1 entitles you to have a rushed book 2. Okay, maybe the readers could be entitled to ask once and while, “how’s the book going”. But once the author responds to that question, that’s the end of it, whining isn’t going to get you zip.

Seriously people need to learn from fans of Suzue Michi, they waited 20 years. Of course that’s a manga, but the concept still applies.

As far as I understand it, Subterranean Press is a small publishing house that doesn’t work the same way the large publishing houses do. First, of all, they generally have **much** smaller print runs than other houses. 12 million copies of the last Harry Potter book were printed in the first run. Subterranean Press is printing 2000 copies of this book. They offer all their books for sale through their in-house shipping system. After they ship to the people who order from them individually, they fill wholesale/trade orders as they can. So they may not be able to fill Amazon’s orders if they sell out from their own website first. So, if you want to be sure of getting a copy, you should order from Subterranean Press itself.

First of all, I would like to apologize, to Pat and to every person I may have offended, for what I said in my *double* post. I now can see it was insulting and instead of expressing the intention I originaly thought it would show, it only expresses rage, maybe childish, and in no constructive way.

I overreacted. What can I say? Could you really blame me? It is true that I cannot know whether this new book will be good stuff or not, and it is also true that the editor is reading Pat’s latest draft and he can’t work on the novel right now, but it’s already been 3 whole years waiting for the second book to come out. I can’t even remember what I was doing three years ago!

It’s just too much time. When I heard about another book being published I thought he was toying us. After so much waiting and so many delays, I just couldn’t take him working on anything else, and yeah, I exploded.

As Pat’d say, I’m not saying this to earn your approval. I’m saying it so you can understand better why I wrote what I wrote, and then decide if you want to crucify me or not.

Now that the apologies are done, I’d like to say a couple things I’d like Pat to read:

1: As busy as you have been, as good as your excuses are, 3 years is more than enough time to revise a book and publish it. I understand you’ve had changes in your life, problems, and a lot of stuff to worry about, and I am not a writer so I can’t really know what your life is like. I just want to say that from the fan/reader point of view, impacience is starting to be intolerable. And I’m not saying that you have squandered these 3 years, what I mean is that even if you had worked your hardest (which I don’t know ) the time lapse between book 1 and 2 is REALLY high, and that makes some people (me included) feel impatient, if not anxious.

2: I understand you can do nothing or very little to bring forward the release date of book 2, but as you are the writer you must be able to speed up things a little, don’t you? Just think in your fans. Most of them (maybe I don’t) deserve to read your book as soon as possible. Lots of them have been supporting you since the beggining, reading all your posts, commenting and trying to give you strength. Probably most of them haven’t said and haven’t even though that it was unfair that the book wasn’t out yet. They were around you trying to help you out as much as possible, asking nothing in return. And I’m not only talking about people in this blog, but all around the world, including the ones that took part in your charity donations.
Even if they don’t say so, I believe they also want to read the book as soon as possible. From my point of view, it’d be a nice reward for all your fans to make an attempt to keep things moving fast so the book can be released, hopefully, before or during this Summer holidays.

3: At this point I want to make clear two things so there are no misunderstandings. The first one is that I accept that you have no obligation of releasing book 2, and that us fans (I’m including myself now) only can wait for the book to be (or not) released, maybe making suggestions, but surley not asking for things as if they were ours. I apologise again for doing that on my previou(s) post(s). The second thing is, I don’t want to tell you how to live your life, or how to work in your book, so please don’t take it that way.

I would like to ask, in name of all the people that agree with me (which I don’t know if they are a lot or just a few of them) and in name of the rest of your fans (if they agree) 3 simple things, which you can decide to do or not do.

1: You have been considerate with your fans until now, reporting the progress of the book and explaining delays. Please continue being so.
2: Only if you are able to, please try to speed up the publication of book 2 a little more, and if you can’t, please try to make sure that the book isn’t delayed again.
3: Most of the impatience comes from not hearing from the book in long periods of time. This is the thing that would make me the happiest if you did: Please Pat, try to post on more news about the book 2. Maybe a weekly post, maybe a montlhy one, whatever you’d want. The point would be to keep people informed regularly, even if the book hadn’t made any progress.

Well, I’m sure this comment is long enough, but I want to add two more things before I finish:
First: Please don’t say this is a troll’s reply who has been insulted and is defending himself. I am not. I may have said sorry for what I said before, but the truth is I still think it (not in an insulting way, but it’s still there). Also I would like what I said to be taken as seriously as possible.
Second: I believe negative comments refering to this post are unavoidable. However, for those who actually read the ideas behind the lines and would like to encourage Pat to try and carry out one of the proposals I said in this same post, a comment saying “I agree with John in this part although he’s a total jerk” would work, as long as you really approve one of the ideas.
Sorry for writing so much, and sorry for writing something that has nothing to do about this new book which was the reason of Pat’s post.
    John

I think a lot of the problems surrounding the release date of Book Two stem from the fact that Pat (erranously? correctly?) stated that he had all the three books pretty much already written and that all that was needed now was just polishing, editing and revising the already written thing. Not starting it from the beginning. Lot of folks have now come to the conclusion (and that’s okay, honest!) that you were indeed WRITING The Wise Man’s Fear and not rewriting/polishing it.

I’m still waiting for the blog on “Why I don’t talk about Book Two”. :D I mean, I can sort of imagine what it will say and all, but still, it would be nice to hear it from you, Pat. You are awesome and we will continue waiting patiently.

I’m sure three years is pretty long for you. From the sound of your postings, I’d guess it’s about a quarter of your life! I completely understand what you’re feeling, being in that situation.

All kidding aside, I don’t think you can really judge how long it takes a person to write, revise, rewrite, rerevise, rerewrite, et cetera unless you have actually gone through this process. Hell, it took fourteen years to bring the first book to its full potential. If you want a quick write, go to some other author who doesn’t care as much about content or message or crafting each word to make the people seem like real people and the setting seem like a real place and time. Pat is a wondrous writer, but even the best writer must take time to do what he or she does. In the grand scheme of things, three years is not much time at all. If you really are this impatient, I can’t imagine how you get through books. Don’t you just need to skip to the ending immediately? Aren’t 500 pages much too long for you to wait? Of course not. And if there are some slow parts, you read them so the faster ones seem more exciting. If you have to wait a couple years until the next precious gem blooms from Patrick Rothfuss’ pen, so be it. But if you are so anxious and impatient that you feel the need to post malice-laced and expletive-studded comments on the man’s blog, profaning such masterful works as The Princess and Mr. Whiffle, perhaps you do not have the maturity and heightened state of mind required to read such pithy bits of literature.

Or maybe you should just take a few deep breaths and review your posts before tossing them in the intertubes for all the world to see. Seriously, man, think before you speak (or, in this case, type). If anything, the internet should be an easier place to calm down and make sure you mean what you say.

Mr. Rothfuss, best of luck with the new book. I’ll be looking for it online and at my local bookstore, but something tells me they’ll be gone in a flash. And maybe you should post a blog on The Wise Man’s Fear‘s status once in a while, even if nothing changes. It’s true that a lion who hasn’t eaten for ten years will be no threat to you, but apparently, those who’ve been book-starved for three are still a pain in the ass. And frankly, if you haven’t released the sequel ten years from now, I’ll be pretty disgruntled myself.

Mr. A.(Andrew) Pud Monkey from your previous blog it makes me think that you have personnel insight into the workings of a author and Pats new book. With the statement that his new book is a masterful work, well only someone who has read it could say that. And since it has not come out yet you must be a insider or poser full of hot air. What to think?

Sorry, going to answer for Plush Monkey; a couple of things:
          1. We can assume that Princess and Mr. Whiffle will be a ‘masterful’ work because we have read The Name Of The Wind. Since it’s by the same author we take it as given that the writing will be of equal quality.
          2. You don’t need to be a published author to have a vague idea about writing/editing/publishing processes. It is all on the internet and easily accessible for anyone who can be bothered to research; hell even if you write original fiction and post it online, it’s a perfect example of how much effort goes into writing a novel; if you want your writing to be enjoyed you have to work at it. That takes time.
          3. Personnel and personal are not the same word. Learn to spell.

          That is all.

        • PlushMonkey

That’s pretty much how I would have replied. I’m not a published novelist, but I’ve dabbled in the art of short stories, and I know how long it takes to write and revise those. Balancing out the fact that I’m a much inferior writer to Pat and that I’m working with much less text, I assume the editing process takes very long for a book author. Also, reading Pat’s blog has given me a view into his process as well.

As for the praise, although most of it is true, quite a bit was written tongue-in-cheek (I don’t exactly use the word “profaning” in my common speech). But as Ana said, we can assume his second book will be almost as good as the first, even factoring in the curse of the sequel.

And to those who have said “OMG PATTT U SED DA BOOK WUZ RITTIN LYK TWUNNY YEERZ UHGOH!!!1!”, the plot of all three have been written, in a basic and general way. If you look at some of Pat’s past blogs, he explains what wouldn’t have been in Book One if he’d just sent it off to the presses in the same state that Book Three is in now, which is a pretty good argument for his use of time revising and adding content.

Wow Pat, this one kinda went off the rails huh? I’ll buy book 2 when ever it cones out, and until then there’s lots of good books out there to occupy my mind.

I think Pat said that he is going to do a blog entitled “Why I don’t talk about Book Two” which should clear up a lot of issues surrounding The Wise Man’s Fear and people bitching about it. So… kindly, all trolls STFU.

Meanwhile I’ll bitch about the lack of the said blog :D Yeah, I’m weird like that.

darn you Pat! :) made me go and order that book…actually I’m really looking forward to it – it looks like it’ll be great.

While I’m commenting, I do want to tell you a short story – how I ended up finding and buying The Name of the Wind. It wasn’t just a normal trip to a local bookstore. Quite fitting, really, for a book that isn’t the normal type of book you’d find in a bookstore. And it really causes one to question the old saying that you can’t judge a book by its cover, because that’s exactly what I did…

I live in Southern CA near LA with my girlfriend. We decided for the 4th of July last year to head up to Solvang, a little town that’s predominantly Danish, just north of Santa Barbara. There was a big wine tasting going on at the area wineries, and fireworks later (loads of fun BTW).

After we were pleasantly muddled from good wine and food (lunch was burgers cooked on an open oak log grill at a winery…best burger I’ve had in my life…), we had several hours before the fireworks started. So we wandered around Solvang itself that afternoon: it was sunny and warm, a perfect day for meandering. We’d brought a picnic lunch which ended up being dinner, and decided to eat on the grass in the town’s central park. At this point we realized that we hadn’t brought any books, as we originally hadn’t planned on staying for the fireworks. Luckily there was one especially charming store across the street from the park – an old world style bookstore. 2 stories (the floor kind…they had LOTS more of the other kind), opening windows overlooking the streets, creaky steps, uneven floors, and at the back of the second floor, a mini-museum dedicated to Hans Christian Andersen complete with a large model of his house. It smelled wonderfully musty in there, like an old much loved paperback, and had a good book selection for a store its size.

As we wandered through it, I made my way toward the back to the fantasy books. While I browsed the section, one book called The Name of the Wind caught my eye. It was a large paperback whose cover depicted a rather ominous yet resigned caped man trudging off into the night, looking as though he had forsaken all he had in life…I think at this point I saw the price and it was more than I really wanted to spend. But the title and the image of the cover stuck with me. My curiosity was piqued, and though I bought a couple other cheap books, by the time we sat down in the park to eat, I was really wondering if I’d made a mistake by not buying that book. As it turned out, I soon had an excuse to run back over to the bookstore: I mistakenly bought a book I’d already read. I exchanged it, and at that point decided I’d better buy The Name of the Wind. I felt better as soon as I handed over that magic little plastic card…

I was hooked from the moment I sat down with it in the park, the other books and indeed my very surroundings forgotten. The only bad thing about that day (aside from leaving a carbonated bottle of flavored water in a hot car, and then opening it in said car without thinking about it…you can imagine the result) was that the day wasn’t long enough for me to read the whole book. It was a journey I won’t soon forget, and one which I intend to relive many times. It’s about as high on my list of favorites as it can get – next to (not above, but not below either) Tolkien.

I’m eagerly, but patiently, waiting for Wise Man’s Fear. I check your blog periodically, and I know I’ll be among the hordes of loyal readers clamoring for a copy as soon as a publication date is announced. Can’t wait!

I asked at my local bookstore here in the heart of europe to order me a copy… lets wait and hope the best.
They said they will try it but can’t promise.
Once more I’ve got the feeling I need a credit card ;)

Looking forward to it – anyway!

I’m cheap, and poor, I’ll admit it right now..

The given website says that it’s 20 dollars, amazon has it for just under 17.. Because it’s limited does that mean that the producer’s site, or whatever they’re called, will get rid of things ordered there first and then what’s left over Amazon can get rid of?

Or does it really not matter where I get them from, first either place is still first?

Soooooo, anyone notice how in alot of pat’s blogs, there’s a shitload of people complaining? With all the idiots out there complaining about book two not being out, has anyone considered the fact, that reading and getting to know Pats spunky and kinda fiesty personality, he hasnt released the book yet because everyone is making such a fuss about it?

I mean, seriously, he’s got to be so annoyed by all the mean and unflattering things that people are saying!

Sooooo, to all the idiots out there complaining about book two not being out, why dont you go find something else to do other than pester poor Pat?

Maybe if you would just leave off, WMF would get realeased earlier, and then you could focus all you energy on being idiots about when book three will come out!

    Stupid people…..
