Okay. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally ready to post up some of the pictures from the photo contest.
Part of the reason it’s taken so long is pure option paralysis. People sent in more than a thousand pictures, and they were not mostly crap. In fact, they were mostly awesome.
That put me in a strange situation. I can’t post a thousand pictures up on my blog. Even fitting them into categories is too much for me.
Last time when I did the photo contest, there were a handful photos that didn’t fit into any particular category. So I did a Miscellaneous blog for them.
But this year, there were so many photos that a single miscellaneous blog couldn’t begin to fit them all. So instead, I’ve decided to start off the contest with a bunch of the photos that I liked, but that for one reason or another didn’t make the final cut.
Also, I decided to put them all to verse and include a sort of framing narrative. I can’t remember why exactly I decided to do that, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Personally, I blame it on the fact that I’ve spent a lot of time reading Green Eggs and Ham to Oot lately.
The pictures aren’t as big as I’d like, but I had to do some resizing to make them all fit. Rest assured that you can click on any of them and embiggen to your heart’s content.

That Pat Rothfuss. That Pat Rothfuss.
Oh how he makes me want to cuss.
At first I liked him fairly well,
But he blew his deadline to hell.
His second book was much too late,
So now I hate him. Hate! Hate! Hate!

Man. You have no idea how long that took. It was fun, but I’m never going to do it again.
Thanks to Valerie for helping with the layout of this one while I was busy with other things. Otherwise it would have taken me even longer to get it posted.
Now that this one is out of the way, we’ll have some other picture blogs before too long. As well as the continuation of the ComicCon Chronicle and other assorted geekery.
Later all,
pat

In the title of the blog, did you mean to write Prologue instead of Prolouge or is it just something I don’t get??
Typo…. There’s no spellcheck in the title field of the blog.
the picture field next to this line is empty, just so you know.
I hate this book, do you not see?
I will not read it, let me be.
I will not read next to this tyke,
Got it, thanks!
If you’re using Firefox, go to about:config search for layout.spellcheckDefault and change it from a 1 to a 2.
0 = Disable spell check
1 = Spell check multi-line text areas (default)
2 = Spell check multi-line text areas, and single-line form fields
(You can also right click in a form field, and tell it to spell check that particular instance, but doesn’t change the default for next time.)
Thanks so much. That’s really helpful….
(If I can figure out how to… um… config the default spellerthing….)
Edit: I can’t find it. Where is it supposed to be?
Go to the address bar where you’d normally type http://feliciaday.com and instead type just “about:config” without the quotation marks.
I got a warning about voiding my warranty in my current version of firefox, which I found odd, but say okay to that and you’ll see a listing of all sorts of configuration settings both for the browser and for some addons.
Scroll down in the list to the section for layout and double click on the layout.spellcheckDefault and change it from whatever it is (likely 1) to 2 as Club Neon describes above.
Awesome. I got it now. No more title typos for me….
Thanks again folks.
On top of this awesome entry, this reply also tickled quite a bit because Prologue and blog rhyme…
Likewise, “Sussian.”
Great post, though. I can’t imagine how much work it took to line up all the rhymes so that they went with the pictures, and/or vice versa…
Tonight has been a long and fruitless one for me; as I work on my current book, the words won’t come. I’ve been staring at the blank screen for a long time. I’m sure you’ve been there.
Then I saw this link on my Facebook feed. You raised my spirits, made me laugh. Thanks so much. If the effort was worth it as long as you gave one person a good chuckle, then mission accomplished.
I don’t know if it is the same for everyone else but where it says ‘I will not read next to this tyke’ it says not found.. But I really did enjoy this blog. :)
Yes it seems the photo isn’t there. Clicking on it gives a not found error.
I got to agree with another poster here, it has been a long day. This made me smile and have a good chuckle. I read it twice just to get the full flow of it. Pat your blogs never fail to amaze and inspire. Thanks again bearded brother of mine.
Roflmao! That’s awesome :) Thank you for sharing them and for taking the time out of your ever busy schedule to amuse us.
Have you discovered cloning yet? It sounds like it’d help you immensely, :-D
hahahaha, you are so awesome! this made my day ^^
It’s 11 am here in good old Germany, i am studying for my freekin electotechnics exam tomorrow and I just needed a break. So as usual i went to you blog to see if there was something to cheer me up. And if you had known it, Rothfuss Master of Story just knew i needed some cheer up. Thanks for the good laugh, I am looking forwart to further pictures and Con stories.
By the way, I would even read your third book if it took 10 years to finish. I’d even travel to America if it wouldn’t be available over here.
But it’s not, right?
Holy bundles of happiness!!! One of my pictures is up there!!! SQUEEEEE!
Ok, gushing done. This was brilliant, and time reading Green Eggs and Ham is time well spent. Thanks for this, you just made my whole night!!!
Well, don’t leave us in suspense! Which one is yours?!
Heehee … mine is the one with the book in the tree ;o)
Ok, kidding kidding … mine is the one with the tree in the vine like thingie with all the greenery behind it. I wanted it to look like the tree was swinging from the vine.
Wonder if I would have won something if I had added hands holding on and feet swinging out behind it, so you could really tell it was swinging from the vine. LOL
Would I read Pat Rothfuss’ blog?
At times it leaves me quite agog.
All those photos to sift through
Some might say long overdue.
Would I read it in a tree?
Would I read it with some tea?
Of the second there is no doubt:
An Englishman, I like my tea stout.
As for up a tree:
Well, hmm, let me see,
When I read, I often chortle,
Likely I’d fall, and find myself mortal.
Today’s contest entries – what a fine bunch,
Though they fell when it came to the crunch.
I must say I was quite excited,
When a lady’s naked skin was sighted.
What wonders must wait in store,
Photographs we will all adore.
I hope Captain Joe will find a place,
My Australian friend is simply ace.
Would I read Pat Rothfuss’ blog?
Why yes I would – it’s never a slog.
To his fans Pat is committed,
That’s why so many people submitted.
Pat needs to employ a “Like” button on here … just so I can like this. :o)
Thank you. It was fun to write.
I’d ask Pat to not take “long overdue” too seriously. I was struggling to think of words that rhymed with “through”. For some reason, my mind was fixated on “mooooo” XD
Captain Joe did not submit.
He feels like somewhat of a twit.
I doubt my entry will be missed.
Although seeing this post, I have reminisced…
Would I have taken a photo in a tree?
Would I have done it while drinking tea?
No, I had something better planned.
That likely would have gotten me banned.
I would have shot it in my bed.
Making sweet, sweet love to the book instead.
But let it be known I am quite hairy.
Thus my entry would have been scary.
To Rothfuss I must say this:
To stroke your beard would be bliss.
Perhaps my photogenic prowess will again be shown
Upon the release of Doors of Sto…wn.
Damn. I had it right until the end there.
Hmm. Is the third volume still titled Doors of Stone?
Ahaha, excellent!
Captain Joe, I think you’ve missed
An opportunity you have dismissed.
Your love for the books is plain to see
In stroking Pat’s beard you have a degree.
And yet, Joe, did you ever think,
To combine your ideas and make us all blink.
Would you have taken a photo in a tree?
Would you have been photographed while drinking tea?
Well, Joe, I do not understand,
Why you reject these things out of hand.
Let me paint you a picture and show,
How things things can form one tableau.
Your hairy buttocks, way up a tree,
Do you thrust while sipping tea.
Your object of love: Pat’s fine novel,
Before your passion all fans must grovel.
Bah. Should be “How these things can form one tableau”.
How did this so quickly descend,
Into a discussion of my rear end?
Taure, my good man, I would be remiss,
To defile Pat’s amazing book in a manner such as this.
I fear you do not see
How difficult it would be
To ravish this book while in a tree
Could I do it in an Oak?
What if something vital broke?
Could I do it in an Elm?
My performance would likely underwhelm.
Now while I’m not averse
To this rhyming verse…
I have several papers I must slay.
And so I bid you, sir, good day.
@Captain Joe and Taure: … You guys are too cool for any ordinary person to comprehend… This is awesome… I wish someone would write poetry for my blog… If I had one.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures from the photo contest!
Wow, you guys are crazy. But in a good way ;-). Thanks for making me laugh.
tremendous posts, yet I’m beset
with images I can’t forget
Taure and Joe without a doubt
have eloquently grossed me out
Your efforts I do have to laud
befitting the Marquis de Sad
but keep it up! Don’t make me plead
These kind of posts are fun to read.
Yey one of my pictures made it onto here :D That’s made my day, which will be a looooong one. <3
Well done, that made my night.
I agree! That was fun!
Found the link to this new post on Facebook. I laughed so much that I’m seriously thinking of buying some disposable diapers for the next time… (it’s crazy how you can loose control of your body when you’re having too much fun…).
Thanks for sharing all of this with us. Moreover, what a suprise to see one of my pictures appears here. It’s quite unexpected and so exciting ! You made my day, once again.
(and sorry for my rough english… french people you know…).
I like how you wrote “zazen” to make it fit the meter.
Wonderful, as usual, Mr. Rothfuss.
That’s not just to make it fit the meter. Zazen is the sitting mediation central to zen.
After reading your blog for quite some time, I finally took the time to register just so I could say, “That was great”!!
Man. That was awesome.
Much love from across the pond, Pat :)
I even read it on my horse,
not when we’re going fast of course
I read it when I walk the dog
through wind and rain and snow and fog
I read it when I do the hens
not when I’m cleaning out their pens
I read it here I read it there
I even read it on the stair
I tried to read it in the shower
It dried out after an hour
I tried to read it in the bath
but that reduced the book by half
Love the photos and the poem – as you can see you have inspired me! :=}}
Thanks y’all!
Brightened up my day. Dr Seuss would approve.
I am in awe of the creativity of some of the poets here. Well done!
Now if I can just get rid of s0me disturbing images . .
Oh look, there’s my daughter playing the harp! Thanks for including her. She’s both a fan of your books AND really plays the harp IRL. In fact, we’re off to lessons today.
*standing ovation*
Patrick, brilliant and funny!
I love that many of your fans have so many of the same qualities. My thanks to you, Patrick, for your inspiration and for sharing yourself with the world. ♥♥♥
What country is the cover with the red leaves at the sides and sword action in the middle coming from?
The UK : ) The one on the cog is mine : )
This post put a big smile on my face. :)
Man! These pictures stomped mine. Great shots to all those who contributed. If these are this good, I’m ready to see the rest!
This bloggy post is utter genius
Pat, I do sincerely mean this
The lengths you go to entertain,
Do boggle my pathetic brain
Not many authors take the time
To hold a contest then make it rhyme
kudos to you, I really mean it!
…anybody got a peanut?
That last line makes you win.
Yep. You won. Peanut. LOL!
Didn’t you win one or two categories last time?
Oh, hey look. My comment didn’t post on the comment on which I was commenting. Also that sentence is the most unwieldy thing I’ve typed in months.
Anyway, the previous comment was directed at Captain Joe.
I was rather… prolific during the last contest, and as such I won the Most Most category.
Heh.
Ah, yes. That.
My garden gnome, Barry, sends his happiest regards. He’s all squishy to be in your amazing Suess-ish blog! Thanks, Pat =)
That was just awesome! There are some really neat pictures in there, and the narrative made me laugh. I’m going to be thinking in Dr Seuss all day now!
There’s more Seuss-like poetry around than you may realize!
http://www.cindylooyou.com/?p=46
(although a good deal of that particular story was inspired by another Doctor entirely…))
Brilliant, all!
Thank you for posting the blog, Pat. If these were some of the photos that didn’t quite make the cut, I can’t wait to see what is yet to come!
For my comment I will keep it short,
The pics and poems made me snort,
Thanks to all who paid tribute,
And to all I bid you adieu.
That was awesome. Great verses, great pictures. Thanks for putting so much effort into the blog. Brightened my evening. :)
:) squee! very happily surprised my photo snuck into this fantastic company. and zomg! the back and forth odes amongst the comments–best breakfast ever.
Reading that poem with TNOTW theme song playing in the background made it just that much more epic haha.
I wish I had thought to do the Firefly one…
Great pictures all.
That last one with the corn is mine! hooyeah
I don’t have a band, but I want to start one just so our first album can be entitled “Drinking Some Odd Robot Tea.”
Ooh.. What a coincidence! I’ve just moved to Urbana IL from England to do a year abroad at University. I saw the Urbana sign featured in one of the pictures fr the first time literally minutes before reading the blog!
Nice to know that there are other Rothfuss fans here in IL (makes my job of converting everyone slightly easier!).
Awesome blog.. My photo wasn’t featured so I’m hoping that means I’m going to be in one of the other categories rather than nothing at all ;) then again, my photo was awesome to take so that makes it all worth while :)
<3 You made me very much LOL. Thanks, Pat :)
That made my day, and the poems continuing into the comments. Brilliant
garr i set my alarm at 4am and i am still not the first one? poop
That was great Pat. Thanks for the belly laugh
GOD I love the Kindle/Excalibur picture!! <3
Yeah, that’s my favorite, too. Even if the kindle isn’t as photogenic as the hardback, that picture more than makes up for it.
I also really like the one with the girl sitting on the bench ‘all alone’.
And three of those pictures are mine. I took the one ‘between heavy rocks’ and the book raised ‘up to the sky’, and that’s me in the tree ‘all alone’. There were ants that lived in that tree, and they weren’t very happy with me reading there…
Hi,
Normally I’d put this on a forum, but as we have no official forum for Killing Kings..
You, Patrick Blackstone Copperfiled Rothfuss are Harry Dresden.
I can prove this rigorously on glossy vellum.
But seriously, if Harry Dresden decided to write fiction in his spare time, the chronicles of Kvothe would definitely be what he would write (see what I did there.. chronicles :) .
This is a complinent, You is mad bastards.
Really really really cool Blog… so worth the wait. Thanks to Pat and all the fans who submitted pictures.
Really regretting not sending in a picture of me hoarding my six signed copies of WMF. :D
Hey, I have to say it; book 2 was amazing!! I bought it like 2 weeks ago and it was highly addictive! ^^
I can’t wait to read what becomes of Kvothe ^^ (don’t lets us wait to long ^^)
Nice blog ^^ it made me laugh ^^
Pat, thanks for taking the time for the Sussian story!! I loved it! It was well worth the wait and even if it turns out to be the only one that’s ok too! But I really thought it was awesome! Love your books! And your blog!
Two of mine are up there!! YAY! :D
Ha! Pretty sure I’ve been to that particular T-Rex. Very cool! Can’t wait to see the rest of the contest. :)
-Erin
This is great. Made me laugh. Thanks
Man, how could the one with the sexy chick in bed possibly NOT win a price?
Shame on you Patrick, shame on you. If you don’t give her a price she’ll never take a picture like that again. And all of us will lose then, won’t we??
This is great! xD
Im excited to see how this is going to be organized
This definitely brightened my day. Great fun!
Would it mean anything if I said I have a pretty good idea of how long that took and appreciate it even more, specifically the tech-exhaustion that proceeds such an undertaking.
And I’m trying not to get caught laughing hysterically in the midst of this coffee shop.
Thanks for sharing, Pat.
I’m sitting in my dorm room right now reading this, and I’m fairly sure everyone thinks I’ve gone nuts. I’m giggling like mad.
Plus, I still have that deep narrator’s voice from the Spanish trailer stuck in my head, so I keep hearing the lines of this in that voice.
So. Awesome.
Fabulous poetry, and the catch-rhyme with “zazen”is simply brilliant! Nothing more lovely than a rare word used with seamless scansion, and so appropriate to the image.
I couldn’t help but notice that the woman in bed with the book is the same person as the woman having the tea party with the book and the little girl.. and shes married! If that book is not the girls father, this could be quite scandalous.
I didn’t intend to mimic this post, but I read the Cat in the Hat to my best friend’s little boy last week and he’d start shouting the end of the rhyme scheme. Like the part where they “Sit! Sit! Sit! SIT!” he was shouting at the top of his lungs and jumping on the bed. The sheets flew everywhere.
Not the most effective bedtime story.
As a result, I researched some anapestic tetrameter and came up with this for writers and lovers of typewriters.
Hope it lives up to your own enthusiasm.
