And the Winner is….

Many of you already know that my editor, Betsy Wollheim, was nominated for the Hugo Award  this year. If for no other reason than I talked about it on the blog a couple times.

Guess what happened this Sunday night?

She won.

Thanks to everyone who voted for her, spread the word, or even quietly rooted for her from the sidelines.

The only downside? I wasn’t at the award ceremony. Because I’m an idiot.

You see, I *was* at Worldcon, and I assumed the Hugo Awards were going to be on Saturday night. So when Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub invited me out to Seattle to be on Kris and Scott’s Scott and Kris show on Sunday night, I said, “Sure.”

So while my editor was winning her Hugo. I was in Seattle, catching the tail end of PAX and doing…. well… this:

More details about the show, and a transcript of the Kris’s fanfic are here.

And I’m not saying the show wasn’t fun. Because obviously it was.

And I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy getting to meet Johnathan Coulton out at PAX, because I did. I super did. And I found out he’s read my books, which gives me a happy.

And I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy being in Seattle, visiting the Geek Chic headquarters, having a great signing at the University Bookstore, and having some amazing Thai food.

I’m just saying I wish I could have been there to see the look on Betsy’s face.

More blogs are coming. Big announcements. Cool news.

Stay tuned.

Was this your “I’m an idiot” post on Facebook?

No. That was a different case of me being an idiot….

It was a great Story Board, even if it started a little late. I caught some really interesting insights out of it. Thank you.

Also, Mary Robinette Kowal is sharp. She was a great choice as a guest, obviously. (This isn’t to disparage the other guests, they were great too. I just find Kowal especially brilliant.)

Also, your Terry surprise was appreciated all around.

Oh, that’s what that was about… I still need to watch that one.

If by “Big announcements” you mean what I think you mean, you just gave me a big happy. If not, the suspense will fuel me for a while.

I’m hoping that the big announcement is that the third book will be Choose Your Own Adventure style…

I’m for that! As long as one path leads to Kvothe turning into a lesbian unicorn.

Can’t believe I just saw you post. It’s like seeing a unicorn or a shooting star.

Dude – I fail to ever see any flaws in your character. You tread a path others should envy. I remain perpetually touched by your humanity, creativity and love of your friends. A blessed path you walk, Mr. Rothfuss – and I ain’t blowing sunshine up your ass. Please walk on, kind sir.

    Many smiles and fuzzy hugs.

Kudos to your editor on a well deserved nod!

Oh, how I miss The Ave and it’s plethora of Thai choices. I am deeply jealous. What’s your Thai of choice Mr. Rothfuss? I was always partial to Araya.

An anonymous source who was there (okay, it’s John Scalzi) told me the whole show will be up on the web this Sunday here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/hugo-awards
So it’s not the same as being there, but at least you’ll be able to see how it happened…

As one of the many people who came to see you at the Kris & Scott show, and the bookstore signing, I can say that you missing the Hugo Awards was worth it to me! I only hope your fans made it worth it to you as well :)

It was a real treat being able to come out and see you while you were in Chicago. A dream come true is sounds too strong, but it was definitely one of the highlights for the year. Thank you so much for throwing that signing together. Sorry you didn’t get to see the ceremonies. Luckily Ustream will be re-airing them this Sunday if you want to watch them.

I intend to read this blog post just as soon as I get back in — on the way out the door.

But I had to leave this quick comment: Betsy Wollheim’s dress is awesome.

Hey, there’s the youtube video I took. :D The wife and I really enjoyed the show and glad I got the chance to corner you over by bandland so you could sign my copy of TWMF. Glad I got a chance to see what The Princess & Mr. Whiffle was all about as well.
