My Rambling Thanks (And a Song)

Sorry for the Radio Silence here folks. In addition to the pleasant madness of the end of the Kickstarter, I also had a bunch of other things fall on me at the same time.

They included (but are not limited to) sickness, a car crash (everyone is fine), flight delays, cancellations, Worldbuilders running its first-ever serious booth at Origins, (blog to follow), seduction, piracy, storm, shipwreck….

I’m not going to dwell on any of that now. Suffice to say that in the end, it took me sixteen days to make it to Severen….

No. Wait. What was I talking about again?

Oh. Yeah. Radio Silence.

Today, I mostly wanted to thank all of you that stomped out and made the Kickstarter such a huge success.

I appreciate it. The folks at Albino Dragon appreciate it. Worldbuilders appreciates it.

And though they’ll never know the particulars, all the families that Heifer International will help with the money appreciate it too.

And it goes without saying that the success of this project will lead to more cool stuff in the future. He said tantalizingly…

There were a few things that I offered up as stretch goals in the Kickstarter. One was a video of me singing “I Crush Everything.”

The other was a video of me reading The Princess Book to Oot.

That second one will take a while, but I launched the I Crush Everything video on facebook a couple days before the end of the Kickstarter.

For those of you who missed it. I offer up to you…. this. A thing that I did.

Honestly, I haven’t listened to it, because I prefer to live firm in the illusion that the voice I hear in the shower is the same voice everyone else hears when I sing.

If it doesn’t…. well…. I would like to state that for the record, Shane kept cracking me up through the first several takes by doodling things. So my voice was pretty tired by this final take.

And also, I was sick as a dog when we recorded this. I was drinking tea with lemon and doing drugs just so I could perform.

And by drugs, I mean just regular drugs. Ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine.

And by perform, I mean sing. Perverts.

Okay. Enough equivocating.

Here it is:

Later all,

pat

I say you should listen to it! You have a really good voice.

Thanks for this little morning-brightener and greets all the way from Europe

I’ll check out the song as soon as I get home. Congratulations on the super successful kickstarter, looking forward to seeing “more cool stuff in the future”.

It’s funny how you say “sorry for the radio silence” after just 8 days of blog absence – for a lot of people that would be nothing unusual, but I guess with your update schedule (very much appreciated, it’s awesome that you are able to update often) people have been sending out search parties after not hearing from you for this “long”. Seduction and piracy certainly are valid reasons on their own for not posting :)

The word “equivocate” is interesting. It has two possible Latin roots, aside from “vocate” which is “to call”. The more obvious one is aequus, which means equal. A more interesting etymology is equus, meaning horse. If you talk like a horse, you aren’t saying anything.

And that mirrors one of my favorite lines in the WMF:

“You speak as a dog. With no sense. With no end.”

Still waiting to use that as a comeback in real life.

Congratulations on the record breaking kickstarter. I’m glad you are using your powers for good.

Dude, you didn’t just sing that well, or sing it sick, you sang it a cappella.

Also, great song! Never heard it before and love that lyric.

The road to Tinue is backed up today. A small whiny thing called a Prius has been rear ended by a drunk tinker and his pack mule. Troopers and travelers alike are stuck behind the ensuing mess as the car owners and the tinker try to reassemble his packs. Scroll at 11.

The “funniest” thing is, I JUST read the line about “piracy, storm, shipwreck…16 days to Severin…” last evening.

Well, I was ready to make some wiseass comment about your singing, unfortunately, you proved to be far better than I suspected, so I guess I’ll have to go with: Nicely done!

Thanks for the laughs from Argentina.

You and Albino Dragon did a fantastic job with your stretch goals and add-ons. I initially told the wife I was going to spend “about $20” (best to keep things somewhat vague!) for a couple of decks of cool cards. Then the stretch goals added more add-ons, and before I know it, I’m explaining how two decks of cards can turn into $50.

You guys are good at this. I’m looking forward to what’s next – whatever it may be!

Congrats on the Kickstarter! That was rough not overspending on….kinda glad it’s over so I can stop practicing this “self control” thing…

That really sucks you guys got in a wreck though, I mean, I’m glad everyone’s okay, obviously thats the ultimate most important thing, but didn’t y’all just buy that fancy thing?!

Also, I watched this video the other day on youtube and I was really wondering how you were keeping it together while Shane was putting all those ridiculous drawings up LOL….once he threw in Optimus Prime I couldn’t stop laughing….

I wasn’t expecting Pavarotti, but Pat you did a wonderful job. I couldn’t have done that. I was surprised with how bad you were feeling you pulled it off so well. I guess you are just the consummate professional in all things. Being part of the live broadcast of the making of….you and Shane kept me in stitches (the good kind, not the go to the ER kind). It has been a fun ride.

Your stark rendition of that song is hauntingly beautiful, especially with only the vocal track. Few songs affect me like this one did.

I wish you would edit out that cough, the beginning and end, and then post the song on itunes or something; maybe make a bit of cash for worldbuilders. That sounds like the sort of thing JC would be cool with. Think about it.

    Hey Pat!
Listening to your song I just remembered a guy playing the Lute (actually Oud, the Arabic Variant, the root version if you’d like) and he was so amazing I just thought ‘that’s how Kvothe should play’

Here’s a link to one concert he gave, it’s just music to dream, without words.

Actually it seems he’s Egyptian origin and lives now in France. Maybe you enjoy him!

I watched the livecast of this and was wiping laughter-tears from my eyes. I’m glad they went with the WTF Dolphins including Joss Whedon wearing a tophat and monacle.

Speaking of Joss -I’m hoping to see Much Ado today. WOO!

I was at the Northeastern University book-signing a few years ago when you were touring (like a literary g’damned Rockstar) for the WMF release, when someone asked you to sing a song, and you sang this.

I remember thinking “That Pat, he’s got some serious balls singing in front of a room full of people… my introvert ass could never pull off a stunt like that.”

…and here you go doing it for the whole Internet to see. For all time.

    /golfclap — Bravo Sir… Bravo.

    Dear Pat,

I believe I represent a large demographic of fans when I say: Give us a spoiler! Please, give us at least a rough estimate of when we can expect the next book. Though I enjoy and approve of all your side projects, it’s really frustrating when months can pass without even hearing you so much as complain about all the revision you’re doing on Book Three. Not to mention not knowing if we can expect it within a year, or if we have to wait as many as five years, makes the wait so much more excruciating. So please, help us be patient. Either give us a tentative, rough estimation of when when to expect Book Three, or at least reassure us that progress is being made by the simple act of bitching about the work you’re putting into it.

    Sincerely,
    Your fans.
