10th Anniversary Edition NOTW: Sneek Peek at Art, Tour Dates, and Events at NYCC

Heya folks…

The 10th Anniversary Edition of the Name of the Wind comes out on Tuesday, (October 3rd.)

What’s that you say? What 10th anniversary edition?

This one:

(I’ve been signing a lot of them for The Tinker’s Packs, lately.)

It’s a pretty, pretty book. And if you think the front cover looks nice, you should see the back….

Now that, my friends, is how you blurb a book. I’m all blushy.

The book has improved, cleaned up text. An introduction, an author’s note (by me), pronunciation guide, and several appendixes about things like the currency systems, the calendar, the Aturan Empire, etc etc.

Also? It has more than 20 illustrations from Dan Dos Santos like this:

And this:

And two new maps from Nathan Taylor like this:

And the appendixes are further illustrated by Nate Taylor like this:
So… yeah. That book. That is the one I’m talking about.

That’s all the planned events for now. Sorry if I’m not hitting your hometown, but there’s only so much touring I can do at this point.

If I’m not coming to your neck of the woods, you should contact your local bookstore and pre-order one. (It might work better than just showing up and hoping they have it in stock.) Sometimes bookstores don’t realize how many of you there are, and how enthusiastic y’all are….

Anyway. It’s super late right now. And I’m pretty tired. I need to get to bed.

I’ll see some of you soon….

Oh wow, it’s beautiful. I don’t know if I can get my local bookstore to order any copies, though. I’ll probably be the only person who wants one in English. But I will get it, because I totally need 5 versions of the same book, right? And that doesn’t make me obsessed or anything?

Do you happen to know when they will be available in other countries? Specifically Australia?

    • Posted September 29, 2017 at 3:38 PM | Permalink

Some countries are doing their own 10th anniversary editions….

But if you want to buy this one, we do international shipping in the Tinker’s Packs….

They look beautiful. Should be getting mine as a surprise birthday present soon.
And by surprise, I mean I sent him a link, highlighted my birthday on the calendar and explained that although lamps are fine (they have many uses, mainly involving being able to see better and whatnot) three years in a row might be a bit much…

I’m going to be brutally honest. I wasn’t planning on buying this addition. I don’t care for some of the details, none of which I need to get into. But those red pages? Holy hell, did those change my mind right quick. Something about that red put stars in my eyes.

Dammit. I gotta go make room on my bookshelves.

I didn’t know that was happening until I saw it. It’s so sexy….

I preordered one of the Gekks doing Good in less than a heartbeat even tho I am a student and as such as broke as a cliché. I regret nothing especially after this images and the email from Rachel and the rest of the Worldbuilders team in which they were as helpful as any human being can.

Give them some high fives when you happen to see the team in my regard. They deserve them!

I will see you in Seattle with my little Worldbuilders team – do-gooder Charlotte, Maggie (who wants to be Margaret now- sigh), and Vulcan Baby Henry (but he will probably be disguised as a human). I’m sorry you are having to work so soon after your loss, but I am glad that we will be able to see you. Possibly some cute kiddos who are excited to meet you will help to heal your heart. :)

If you can’t make it to one of those cities, you can get your own signed copy at The Tinker’s Packs: https://thetinkerspacks.com/products/10th-anniversary-the-name-of-the-wind

They still have some (unless mine was the last copy) .

Any chance you’re coming up to Canada (specifically Toronto) on this tour, or could you maybe work in next year’s Ad Astra?? Just read the first two books for the fourth time to keep up with all the comments in the KC group on FB; my memory is terrible.
Better reread the one about Auri too, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I loved it myself (although of course there are those who didn’t “get” it).
Really sorry about your dad. Hope your kids are dealing with his loss okay. <>

Ah well, it’s probably good that I’m on call this week (so no travel) and you’re not coming to lovely Portland, Oregon.

That’s how I ended up with 2 signed copies of The Slow Regard of Silent Things! (I’m still not quite clear on how I got the third one. . . )

I’ll wait for my signed copy to come in the mail. Can’t wait to see if Auri jumps in quick succession now.

Sorry, but I can’t justify paying over $12 for shipping for one book. That is completely outrageous for the weight. The seller should be using the media mail shipping rate which would be much lower.

    • Dramlin
      Posted October 1, 2017 at 6:37 PM | Permalink

Seriously? A big, heavy book, packed safely to ensure it gets to you undamaged, and you think $12 is expensive? Speaking as an Australian I would love to be able to pay $12 for shipping for my books from the States — it often costs more than the book these days.

Hi! I’m not sure where you are located but I heard University Bookstore ships via media mail so I would imagine it isn’t $12 for the book. I think they do free shipping if you call them. The event there is tomorrow so you don’t have much time but I hope that helps.

Just saw that you are coming to Pittsburgh Oct. 10th. I am so happy and sad at the same time. I am happy that you are visiting Pittsburgh and hopeful that most of your fans will get to see you. Sad that I will miss you; I am speaking at a Preschool Parent/Teacher Meeting that evening at 7:00PM. Hopefully I will catch you the next time you are in town. Congratulations on the 10th Anniversary Edition of The Name of the Wind. It is one of the most beautiful fantasy books I have ever read.

    Hey Pat,
First of all, I hope you are doing great, staying hydrated and being very very happy because you deserve all the happiness. Do you see this book? This phenomenal book in this marvelous marvelous cover? I hope you’re proud of yourself because I am very proud of you.
I don’t usually buy special editions of books but hell, this is my favorite book, there is so much in this edition I crave for and oh my god the cover and the illustration. I need it. Yes. Unfortunately, I live in a tiny tiny country of the Czech Republic and I can be happy there even is an English version of The Kingkiller Chronicle being sold, my hopes for getting this edition in here aren’t very high but fortunately, I’m visiting Scotland at the end of the month. Is there any chance of getting this beauty somewhere in there? If not, I’ll probably do some unimaginable things to get to the USA and buy the book. Nothing can stop me.

    • Posted October 2, 2017 at 10:51 PM | Permalink

      Shipping is also a thing.

Generally speaking, in my experience, it’s easier to buy a book and have it shipped to you, than to travel somewhere just to purchase it.

    Dear Pat,
Recently I noticed a lot of bumper stickers that I thought were Kingkiller fan stickers. They said “NOTW” and there seemed to be one on every tenth car in my little town. I was thrilled beyond measure to realize I was living in the midst of so many Rothfussians – I told folks in the grocery parking lot that I liked their sticker, and felt brim-full of pleasure when they smiled knowingly at me. I was disappointed that I did not have my own sticker to show solidarity. I told my husband about this problem, explaining that I follow your blog, Twitch channel, and twitter feed pretty closely but hadn’t seen these stickers available. I needed one, obviously! He told me that the stickers weren’t actually in celebration of your book – they were stickers from a church.
So, it turns out you’re not quite as famous as Jesus Christ, except to one confused little fan in the south who spent 6 weeks eagerly chatting up confused strangers in the grocery parking lot.
Can’t wait for the tenth anniversary edition!

I have also seen this sticker on cars and I initially thought the same thing. It’s been a few years but I still think of it, even the font is interesting.

    Pat,

Thank you for the wonderful work.

Just a thought, anyway to get prints of the art in the 10th anniversary book? I love the artwork and would love to have a few prints. Not that I want to add more work for you, whistles to myself.

Welcome to my city! Of course this would be the year I decided not to go to Comic Con. If I can I’ll try to make it to Monday’s BN event. I can just flash my gold pipes at the door and give the gate keeper a wink, that’s how those work right? ;)

    Hello Pat!

My name is David and I’m a big fan from Sweden! In two days I’m going to visit my grandpa and granpa in Wisconsin. When I saw that you started to post tour dates I kept updating your Facebook page relentlessly, beacuse I reaaaally hoped you would host something in Wisconsin. It
would be such a great pleasure to meet you in person! And also buy your book from you in person.

The reason I’m posting this is just to ask if there would be the tiniest sliver of hope that
you are in the neighberhood before I go home the 17th of October? As I said, it would be
such an honor to meet you, and it would really make my trip to the US something extra!

I get that you have loooads of stuff going on and meeting fans is low priority, but I thought
what the hell, why not just ask! Anyway, you are an amazing author and I love your books!

    All the best
    David

Oh man! I have the original version but I haven’t read it yet. Long TBR, yo. But its time is coming. Soon. But, despite already owning it I would love a paperback of this cover. And those red edges! [Insert seductive growl here] Paperbacks are easier to hold in bed…which sounds way kinkier than I intended…but I have no shame when it comes to books.

Hola Patrick!
    Gracias!!!

    Hi Patrick,
I was wondering whether there’s going to be a Spanish edition of the 10th Anniversary edition.
I’ve read the three of them all in English, I got then all in line in my bookshelf, but I want my husband to read it as well, and since his English is not that good, I think it’d be a good excuse to have the special edition :)
