Greetings true believers!
Ech. I remember back in the beforetimes. I remember the long long ago when I refused to resort to gratuitous Exclamation Marks. And yet here we are. I fought the tide and fell before the waves. Now I’m like the rest of the plebeians, promiscuous with my punctuation to the point of profligacy.
As I finally begin to write this blog, it is 2:58 AM on Friday morning. I’d planned on writing about taking my kids to the local pride festival and doing some art design for the Digger Unearthed kickstarter on the livestream this week. But the best laid plans of mice and men do often go awry. And my plans are more prone to that than most. Complicating things were a tornado, two power outages, a medical crisis, a grade-3 internet kerfuffle, and a child with a tragic case of night-yertz.
Everything said, it wasn’t a good week to decide to wean myself off coffee.
The good news is that with 5 days left to go, the kickstarter is trundling along quite nicely. We’ve unlocked a lot of stretch goals, most of which directly relate to improving the books themselves. Better covers, acid-free paper, fancy foil, and silk bookmarks. At the start of all of this, I’ll admit I was kinda hoping we might get as high as $200,00o. But we’ve outstripped that, and are currently standing at $288,017, more than ten times our starting goal.
If you want to dig into more of the particulars of what’s being done to improve the books, you can head over here to see for yourself. There’s a couple updates as well as fancy graphics that show what we’ve unlocked, and what we’ve got on the near horizon.
But the big news for today, is that we’re going to be doing a live discussion and Q&A with Ursula Vernon herself.
Here’s the deets.
Ursula is a delight, and I’m excited to get the chance to chat with her. You can show up to enjoy the Q&A live over here, or catch the VOD after we’re done.
Thanks again for all your support, everyone. And I’ll see you on the stream tomorrow.

lookin forward to the future, congratulations on the kickstarter so far!
Let me just say, one more time – I dunno if there are any other people like this or if it’s just me, but with the bajillions of dollars coming in, is there really no way you could also fund a paperback release? I like paperbacks way more than hardcovers, so I just went with the ebook option – but I *would* pay more for physical paperbacks, if I could.
I think there is a softcover option offered ($45 USD tier), is that not what you are looking for?
Yup. It’s the second tier. You get the softcover and the DRM-Free e-book for $45.
Luls, I’m a dummy! (Or it was Friday afternoon after a long week, or both. I saw a post in my rss feed, and clearly didn’t look at it nearly long enough before my brain determined it was a post from Sanderson about *his* Kickstarter, which it very clearly is not! So I’m going to have to look into this one *now*, haha. And thanks for including a paperback option, which again, was the only thing missing from Sanderson’s campaign, a campaign which, notably, is not this one. :D)
Pat I know it must be frustrating seeing constant questions about book 3 but please do try to see the positive in it. People ask and get frustrated because of how good you are at writing and they’re eager to read more of your work, how cool is that. Such a fortunate position to be in imo. It’s all about perspective, push the negative thoughts away. A proper update would be nice though I admit. How many revisions do you think you’ve done on this book compared to the others? Take care Pat, take your time, enjoy the process.

Thanks for the information you shared. Loved the way you explained everything in this blog.
The only reason I want to know the book 3 release date is so I can time my rereading of books 1, 2 & 2.5.
In other words, take your time. We are (somewhat) patiently waiting.
I really like reading through a post that can particularly make people think in an actually major way. Also, definitely many thanks for permitting me to comment, which is fairly significant.
Thank you for sharing the information. Totally enjoyed your blog’s explanation of everything.
I REALLY wish I had seen this in time. Ursula is one of my favorite artists from back in the day. I *love* the Very Minor Sins demon she did.
I hope you’re doing well this Wednesday morning. I’ll skip most of the pleasantries and get to the meat of the matter.
As a long-time fan of your works and a writer inspired to start due to them, I was wondering the following:
1. Is it worth trying traditional publishing with how prevalent the internet is, or should I try self-publishing instead? As someone with experience in the industry, I would trust your word far more than a random article online.
2. How can you position yourself in a market? As one of the top fantasy authors around, how difficult was it to break into that market and find an audience? Should you follow recent trends or find your own path?
Thanks for your time!
Congratulations with Kickstarter, that’s really good news for community.
Hi Patrick. I love you. Your books have changed my life. They serve as an ongoing inspiration and I cherish them dearly on so many levels. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I REALLY wish that I had caught this sooner. One of my all-time favorite musicians was Ursula back in the day. The Very Minor Sins demon she created is *amazing*.
I don’t think it’s all that wonderful. I think it will become better but not now
I finally begin to write this blog, it is 2:58 AM on Friday morning.
Many people have a lot of fun with anything you can think of and write down. I’m one of those people who like what you write
