Various Flavors of Geekery

Heya everybody,

Not too long ago, I posted up a video of a group of authors playing D&D at Confusion in January of 2012.

Earlier this year, a bunch of us got together again under the direction of ringleaders Myke Cole and Peter Brett, and did it again. And recorded it.

And here it is…

Honestly, I’m still a little traumatized by Chauncey’s injuries.

Let this be a lesson to all of you, just because someone is Neutral Good, it doesn’t mean we won’t rain down some truly old-testament shit when our friends are fucked  with.

*     *     *

In other news, if you watch Shark Tank tonight, you’ll see something very, very cool.

Odds are, if you’re the sort of person who enjoys watching other people play D&D, what you see could very easily spill over into the realm of untrammeled awesomeness.

This is simple truth. You cannot trammel the degree of awesome involved. Mostly because you don’t know what the word “trammel” means.

Still, the point is that I’m going so far as to urge you to follow that link and have a lookie-loo.

And if you love what you see there, I encourage you to order it *now* to get your place in line. You see, Geek Chic’s has a waiting list for their furniture. This is a waiting list I am currently on, because daddy wants some bookshelves. I’m tired of buying shitty ones at target. So I’m buying something beautiful that I’ll be able to use forever and pass along to Oot after I’m gone.

Anyway, my point is that after their prime-time appearance tonight, Geek Chic‘s waiting list will be LONG. So you might want to sneak in under the wire….

Did I already mention that they’re also a Worldbuilders sponsor? They are. They’re every kind of cool.

You have been notified and warned.

Those guys make the most amazing furniture… every time I walk by one of their setups at PAX East, I whimper a little bit and think about how I’d have them furnish my entire home if I won the lottery…

I am a “Gamer By Proxy” via my son. I watch with interest but never partake. However, my mouth absolutely waters at the vision that is The Keep. I desire, I covet, I desperately want! I think I actually squealed a bit when I saw the lock box, which is so totally cool. Thank you Pat (both in sincerity and sarcasm) for introducing this amazing product to me when I have no hope in financial hell of acquiring it! :)

I’ve eyed their stuff for years. But I finally took the plunge about a month ago.

If I were an oil exec. I could totally afford to buy something. Unfortunately, that is not the case…

    Cool stuff though.

Yeah, I’m curious how many average fantasy fans can afford a table that costs as much as 4 of my mortgage payments.

Most people aren’t jumping in at that level. I know I certainly didn’t….

Most of the nicer bookshelves are in the 1.5-3k Range. My mortgage checks in right at a grand. There’s also a gaming table that costs 12 grand. All beautiful, beautiful things but good lord.

You underestimate my ability to trammel, sir!

    • Posted May 17, 2013 at 2:28 PM | Permalink

Sorry about that. I have no doubt that among my readers are a few folk who trammel beyond normal mortal ability.

It’s all too understandable. Those of us blessed (cursed?) with the ability are often overlooked.

Also, aren’t geek chic doing a loeclos box? That’s something I should probably throw money at.

Yup. But it’s still in process.

Then I shall be patient as two stones together.

If being a fan of yours has taught me anything it’s that waiting for perfection is worth it.

I hear there are some pretty fancy playing cards on Kickstarter that would qualify as some pretty cool geekery…

I know the word “untrammeled” from the Catholic ordination rite:

By this consecration [celibacy] you will adhere more easily to Christ with an undivided heart; you will be more freely at the service of God and mankind, and you will be more untrammeled in the ministry of Christian conversion and rebirth.

But I definitely had to look it up the first time I heard it.

Patrick! I’ll be as brief as possible, I don’t want to waste your time.

I just finished reading KKChronicles and I literally never felt as enthralled in my life (thank you!). There’s a real sad hole in me now that needs to be filled – PLEASE recommend things that you think resemble your books the most, as I’m sure you’ve read them all. Please please please!

Pat all I gotta say is that I’ve been eying a lot of things on that site for a long time, here is a list:

    Vizier
    Emissary
    The Portal
    The Spartan
    The Envoy
The Alexandria Codex (x5? Maybe more if I decide to not make my bookcases)
The League (x I don’t know how many)
    The Curator

I’m more interested in the furniture to store my things than the tables, but there are some damn good tables there. *sigh*

Very cool stuff. Objects of desire indeed. I am quite certain, that should they choose to develop the ‘Bodlian Stacks’ bookcase, I may be compelled to buy one at all costs.

Hey Pat, I’m curious are you ever gonna add some more cities to your map? I can’t find most of the cities name during the book.

Man. I never thought *watching* a DnD game would be as enjoyable as *playing* a campaign.

But this certainly was. I was laughing pretty hard.

I’m not familar with D&D. I know, I know, it’s unthinkable. But the culture almost doesn’t exist in my country, so I only had the books.

Now, this was the first game I’ve ever seen, as I’ve never bothered before really, but I had to, since Pat was involved. I absolutely loved it and wish to God I had somebody to play with as well. I don’t even know where to start, except that I just have to. I need to. Thank you.
