Rothfuss Live! (Recorded)

Hey there everyone,

For those of you who don’t tend to attend conventions and might wonder what it is that I do there, here’s a video that shows what happens when I drink *way* too much caffeine and then decide to hold forth on many subjects, including the nature of love…

aaaand I think I’m going to leave it at that.

I’m going to try posting up more shorter blogs starting… well… now. November strikes me as a good time for change. It’s autumn. My favorite season. A time for stories. And I’ve some cool stuff that I’ve been meaning to show y’all for ages….

Hope y’all are doing well,

Also? Fucking vote. Okay?

pat

This is absolutely brilliant. Go vote, then enjoy this as a reward!

(Internationals like myself, I guess we get a reward for free?)

    Hi Pat,
Always nice to hear from you, I enjoy your words, in whatever form. Caffeinated, written, sung, made up, whatever. Also, waiting patiently and with a great deal of empathy, for book three. I hope it takes exactly as long as it needs to. Thanks for making stuff and for sharing it.

With the way you write, I’d happily read book three if you were the author.

Do conventions ever do voter registration drives / get out the vote efforts?

I voted through mail in ballot since I have mobility issues, and Iowa this time of year can be iffy in the weather department. If I can go the extra mile to make sure I voted, people who can vote have no excuse!

I love that the background+shirt combo results in Pat’s head and arms just floating around the stage.

Love your work in all things Pat, keep it up.

What is your writing process like? How long do you spend choosing the right words? I’m trying to encourage my primary school pupils to really get stuck into the editing process of their writing but to them, once they’re done, they’re done. They don’t want to write anymore.

Yessss your last point. Make the world better, but you can still find your own joy even in the darkest of times. We need both. Thank you Pat.

So excited when I see a new post from you. I love the way you write. What advice would you give someone who wants to write but doesn’t know where to start?

Thank you for your writing. I started KKC a few months ago and am in the middle of my 3rd read already. I find new gems each time through. And SROST was so beautiful. Keep writing these amazing stories and don’t forget to slow down and enjoy life every once in a while.

The best way to write is to just write. You’ll make mistakes and learn. It’s the way everyone starts off….

I get intimidated when I read things from great writers. Kkc has so many details and clues, so many things connected. But I will try to just relax and try.

        Thank you for your reply

    Pat,

Thank you so much for all that you do in the nerd community and the world at large. As someone watching the midterms from up North of y’all, I am also anxious. Hopefully tomorrow brings us some peace.
    Happy Trails.

    Hey Pat,

Thanks for writing! Don’t worry overly about the vote, either. As in a very good song: “Changes aren’t permanent… but change is.”

hey Pat! seems like the world’s split in more ways than one these days, so thanks for creating stories that bring people together. No small undertaking, but you do it with a ferocity and joy that’s remarkably brave, and bravely remarkable. hope the wisconsin winter brings you strange and wonderful things.

At one hour in I realized that Pat’s black t-shirt against the black backdrop makes it look like he’s just a head and arms floating over a pair of jeans…and only because he asked for for the lighting to change at the beginning. No real relevance or importance, but if I didn’t write down that I had noticed, it would keep haunting me. Now, ya’ll can deal with it.

(Also, yes, please on more blogging, Pat. You had been filling the gap left in the internet when Neil Gaiman slowly transitioned from blogging to Tweeting. Now, I just wander the interwebs looking for another place to find a regular source for a well-written, perfect blend of deep insight and deeper nonsense…and then I end up just watching all of Tim Minchin’s videos for the millionth time….Hm, come to think of it, Tim Minchin may be an Australian Brundlefly version of you and Lin-Manuel Miranda…)

I don’t check the site daily, so the reminder to vote came too late! By three years, I live in Canada. Sorry. But I promise, I will do so when the next opportunity arises …

Be well, Pat! Thank you for sharing.

Please please write the 3rd book! This is an appeal from a brasilian fan.
By the way, one of the things that allowed me to know my boyfriend was your books, we started to chat about it and this led us to talk more and get to know each other in person. Please write!!!

I love everything you write, and I’ve watched so many of these recordings “an evening with Pat Rothfuss”. This one really hit me in the feels when you talked about love advice for the soon to be married couple. I am recently broken up with the love of my life and I feel like life is so hard without him, depression is a bitch. Your books and alcohol are my only solace. I’ve reread and relistened to the audio books so many times I can’t count. Please take the time and you do you to get your next work out into the world and don’t let anyone pressure you otherwise. While I’m here I’m waiting patiently.

Hey Pat, hope you are well! I was super excited this morning as one of my favourite podcasts that I thought was finished, Unattended Consequences downloaded and spent an hour in my kitchen just listening to it and enjoying it in the sun. Thank you for that, and super looking forward to more of the episodes!
