Science!

Is anyone else out there interesting in doing some science?

Specifically, I’m referring to aperture science.

I’m considering trying the co-op, and I could use a partner who isn’t a complete asshat.

If anyone wants to friend up, leave your e-mail address in the comments below. (Though I would recommend somehow breaking up your full e-mail so the spam spiders don’t gobble it up.)

pat

Edit: As of 6:00 AM, with the help of North00, I have successfully saved science.

Thanks Northoo. You are a gentleman and a scholar. That was the first multiplayer I’ve done in a long while, and it was lovely. I had a great time.

Also Northoo, I’d like you to know that I really wanted to pull the light bridge out from under you a couple times just to watch you fall to your death. But I didn’t. Because that would be wrong.

For those of you in the comments that have mentioned that you’ve gone through the single player and would like to team up with someone for the co-op, maybe you could team up with each other. I have to say, the co-op was completely worth it. Not quite as cool as the single player, but approximately 80% as cool. And 80% of a near infinite amount of awesome is… well… it’s still a lot.

Play nice everyone.

It’s light outside. I should get to sleep….

i don’t know if this helps verify my not ass hattishness but i drove a couple of hours to see you in portland. and it was awesome. though the you are my sunshine sing along made me think of winifred burlke and sniffle.

and not that you’d remember with the mushiness of your faces that that tour must have made in your brain but i was the guy who asked you to sign with any 7 words you could think of. and the best 7 i could come up with were “you can’t take the sky from me.”

and also don’t worry i won’t turn you into a pototo. ok nered quota reached, i’m out.

Hey Pat, you might want to clarify to the masses what platform you are playing on. I would assume you mean PC as you did not specify PS3 or 360, but it would be a good idea to gently break the news to player 2 hopefuls before they create any hopes and dreams that would inevitably be shattered by the platform-non-compatibility realities of the situation.

At any rate, I have the PS3 and PC versions (though I haven’t tried it yet on Steam, so I don’t know how well it plays on my laptop). Still, I’d love to catch a round or two in portal 2 co-op with you sometime. My email is silvabel (at) gmail (dot) com.

Sweet Jesus, Portal co-op with Patrick Rothfuss?! Wait, no, you probably don’t want a drooling fan who’d be too flabbergasted by your shining aura of authordom to pay any attention to the puzzles. So uh, sure, I’ll play with you. I guess. If you really want to.

The fact I used the word flabbergasted won’t work against me here, will it?

More seriously, though, my Steam username is Vivimord if you want to send me an invite. That is, if you’re planning on doing it on the PC. If not, c’est la vie!

*sigh* It probably rocks to be a famous author and looking for co-op partners. :) I finished Portal 2 (while procrastinating on my thesis, btw!) but don’t know anybody except my ex-boyfriend that plays Portal 2. Most of my friends seem to think video games are things confined to either (1) things their students play or (2) complicated ways of uncomfortably involving them in the social contract with the sole goal of highlighting their inability to shoot straight.

Should you have the PC version, and somehow are still looking for a co-op partner tomorrow, my Steam username is tigrelsong and my e-mail is Gwyn(dot)Whieldon(at)gmail.com.

Alternately, since my thesis is now done and I’m (ahem) a mathematics professor, if for some reason you should need any combinatorial commutative algebra done instead of co-op Portal 2 play, feel free to hit me up for that too. Unlikely, but ya never know! Hope ya find a fun partner.

I should clarify – I meant I finished single player, but haven’t hit any of the co-op yet. Alternately (while it’d be fun, no doubt, to play with someone famous) anyone here that wants a co-op partner and hasn’t played can ALSO feel free to hit me up instead.

I am an asshat, but I do have a recommendation. Play through the Portal 2 Co-Op with someone else who hasn’t played through it yet. Preferably a friend. Playing through it with someone who has already solved the puzzles makes the game far less enjoyable. The joy of Portal is in those precious moments of creativity and discovery and you don’t need someone else ruining them for you by pointing out all of the solutions!

Hahaha, I’ve been wanting to find a fun friend to play that with as well, but unfortunately I’m in Germany on internship right now with no access to a solid connection… Later though, Mr. Rothfuss, we should commit ourselves to an epic ownfest of extraordinary magnitude in one game or another.

It’s an awesome game and if you’ve found all of the other people responding to your coop call to be lacking, feel free to gimme a shout. My steam name is Snausages, and I’m always down to play some Portal 2 coop, it’s a really fun experience.

PPS: If anyone of the other commenters wants to play, I still need those 2 achievements where you have to hug 3 people from your friends list and play with someone who hasn’t played coop before.

I’ll gladly fall down of lightbridges into the acid to give you your achievements.

If you already played the coop, I’m still up for it for the sake of playing with another Kingkiller-Fan :)

Just add me, we’ll set a time.

I ended up blitzing through both Portal 1 and 2 only recently when I woke up and realized my gamer credentials were going to be revoked if I didn’t sit down and play Portal 1. I haven’t been through the co-op yet, which I hear is a good thing in a prospective co-op partner.

The only little niggle is that I’m about 6 timezones away from you, so it would be easier if you preferred to play during the day or early evening rather than all night. I’d be playing on the PC, and my addy is timiat at yahoo daht com.

To make a long post short (gee, as if):

I have played the coop for a bit. once via matchmaking, it sucked because:
    – no conversation
    – the player wasn’t too impressed at my first try at this.

Since I like to enjoy games for the heck of them (the more in coop, with whoever) instead of being pushed around by someone who’s better at me and being an asshat about it, I’ve since then only played with an Irish acquaintance of mine. But that has been some time, and I’m happy to replay without rushing anyone through levels I know.

Wait, I did post something about short, right?

    Wrong. Sorry.

    Email: olli.to-scotland@de
Just replace the dot with [at] and vice versa.

Oh, yes. German. Since I work through the day, I’m available during the week in the evenings. So if you feel the need to play at odd times, chances are good that I’m free when most Americans just started their working days. GMT+1

PS: if anyone feels what need ever to write me, feel free to do so. For playing portal, chatting, playing some other games, help with german/english/french translations or anything I’m up to. I’m up to most things nice and fun :-)

I have it on PC. I played through co-op with my hubby, and it would be nice to play with somebody who doesn’t go “Hey, I think I should put a portal up there!!” and then proceed to move the light bridge I was standing on. This (or something similar) happened at least once per level. Grrr.

I also have Left 4 Dead 1&2 and TF2, if you play those at all. :-)

So after completing both the reg and co-op versions of the game, I want to know what is your favorite GLaDOS Quote?
My personal favorite is “Because I am a po-ta-to.” and “Look at you, flying majestically through the air.”
    Let’s hear them!

    • Posted June 8, 2011 at 1:01 AM | Permalink

I realize this may have been directed at Pat, but I want to play! I really love “Hey, you’re good at murder…” and “You are a horrible person. We weren’t even testing for that.”

        gnome292,
Ahhh such a wave of happiness crashes over me every time I hear GLaDOS quotes, like: “Well the slow clap processor made it. At least we have that.”
BTW I also did not finish one of the earlier quotes: ” Look at you, flying majestically through the air, like an eagle, piloting a blimp.”
I think we should just hi-jack the thread and make it about GlaDOS.

Well Pat. I love writing and filming and my girlfriend has read so many times from you and we are so grateful here that we would like to send to your girlfriend some of our writings . We are really thinking about that. We created a club of admires a couple of weeks ago and we have to decide about that. How much we appreciate you!

my boyfriend is upset he lucked out on the opportunity to play with you. he had played Portal 2 for 1-2 weeks trying to get his achievements when he could. ^^
although he was a bit upset missing play time with you, he told me that he would rather play co-op with me instead any day. although he may have been just saying that to be sweet, but it made me smile because you’re the greatest things since sliced bread to him. …but then again i think got you beat in his world.. you don’t bake him cookies. lol.
anyway, i’m glad you found a worthy opponent to play with you.
i have yet to play any of the Portal games, but i plan to this summer. i love puzzle solving games and its been far too long since i played a video game.

I would have been an awful co-op partner because fanboying would have taken precedence over puzzle solving. I’m glad someone got to play through the co-op campaign with Pat, though ! Do we know what system it was on?

I gotta say that Portal 2 is my favorite game this year, even if I only watched my sister play through it. I have a bad habit of not actually playing the games themselves.
