Acquisitions Inc: The Web Series

The problem with taking a break from the blog, is that the longer I stay way, the more I feel like I need to write something really good when I come back. I feel like I need to make some big announcement or tell some sort of touching story or something like that.

But here’s the problem: writing something good usually takes a lot of time and energy. And I usually taking a break from the blog because I’m too busy, or exhausted. Or both.

So I’m lowering the bar here. Just letting you know about something that might not be on your radar…

Months ago, I went out to Seattle and spent a couple days playing D&D with the Acquisitions Inc folks. It was a nice break from my life. I don’t get to game much any more.

Anyway, they filmed it, edited it up, and have been releasing episodes for a while now.

Like this one:

Honestly, even if you don’t watch the episode, you should at least watch the intro. Kris Straub is a damn demented genius.

The good news is, because I’m mentioning this pretty late in the game, there’s already a bunch of episodes out, so you don’t have to wait forever in between them.

Episode 3 has a pretty great preview:

I’m pretty proud of that.

And it wasn’t just on their website. It’s the YouTube preview. It’s everywhere.

Acquisitions inc preview2

(Yeah. Good luck sleeping tonight.)

Anyway, if you’re into D&D and are looking for something to binge, you can find all the episodes here. There were some pretty great moments.

Have fun…

How could this be lowering the bar?

Have you seen your face there?

A video series of you playing D&D is one of the best things you could’ve introduced to this blog. The bar remains decidedly un-lowered.

I found these on accident a little over a year ago. I watched it because of you, but then fell in love with DnD. I now run 2 games and play in another.

Love the D and D games with Penny Arcade! My wife and I marathoned all the available games you’d done with them on youtube maybe a year ago, so its great to get so much content. Hope you’re having a good year and getting in a lot of family time.

    re: the first minute:

The obvious conclusion is that Pat *is* the evil clone.

As a DM I am extremely envious of your group.

The 2nd episode in particular is great, nothing really happens but I wish my players would spend half that much time planning for a dungeon instead of just running in and winging it.

I’m a Brazilian Fan, and i must say i’m very sad Pat. I read The Name Of The Wind, Wise Man’s Fear, and The Slow regard… and every single one of your blogs till last year. Why i stopped? Because you promised to give us news of Book 3, when the first book came out you promised the other 2 would not be far from launching. Well here i am, still waiting, still believing in your promises. What i can’t understand is why you cannot even talk about it, give us a date or at least a year when the book 3 will be out. I feel betrayed and misled, and all my friends who read your books too, have the same feeling.

Like you i work with deadlines, with constant pressure, and i understand how you feel, but i still dont and i believe i cant understand is why you forgot book 3. Why you dont even talk about it.

Alas, i wish you and your beatiful family the best, and i hope someday i and all fans get to read book 3.

Sorry if i hurt you or your work in anyway, i still love every single page you have written.

Just enjoy the other avenues of creativity that Pat’s able to put out. People get busy and creativity is a fickle mistress. Time constraints, deadlines, obligations, and any number of other things are like kryptonite to the creative process for many.

This D&D series, as well as any of the other PAX videos that Pat’s been in (and even the ones he hasn’t been in) are great to watch, and they tell a good story.

There’s also a bunch of other great books out there, and there’s no harm in going over book 1 and 2 a few more times, as there’s countless gems in there for the intrepid reader.

Book 3 will be done when it’s done. With the way the world is nowadays, I’m sure that whenever it comes out it will be a nice salve for the woe of the day.

I used to run two RPG groups until recently. Maybe your videos will be the sweet, sweet methadone that keeps me from going into withdrawal.

Gotta say Pat, you have great table chemistry with those guys. I’ve spread the gospel of these videos to all of my D&D crew and they’ve thoroughly enjoyed them, and it seems to have increased their chops around the table when it comes to just cutting loose and having a good time.

You’re a lucky man to have Chris Perkins DM for you guys, though I’m sure you already know that.

Here’s hoping that you get a nice set of 20’s to show off your highly stylish Tarzan-like skill with chandeliers.

I just discovered this last night! Actually, YouTube recommended it to me. I clicked it. I’m only commenting because of the serendipity of you blogging about it. I’ve got nothing beyond that.

I have been loving these, and was inspired to go back and watch the previous PAX ones again, too. They have endless entertainment value.

    A note of book three:
I honestly don’t know why people want it so badly. I remember reading Harry Potter growing up and when Sirius died it destroyed me for long time. It was the first time I sat and cried and told a book “No.” I read EarthSea as an adult. I devoured the books and then they were gone, there’s no more, and there’s no reason there ever will be another one. Maybe I’m the only one (I doubt it,) but the ending of a series is hard for me. It leaves an emptiness where I used to look forward to another adventure.

I will be happy to read the third KKC novel when it comes out. Not because I’m looking forward to it, but because (again, maybe it’s just me) I’m a slave to the books I love. I have to follow them to their inevitable ending. This book… this book I KNOW will have endings inside of endings wrapped in endings, the amount of pain and devastation coming to the characters is insurmountable. It’s there in the darkness that is and has always been looming in the background of the story.

… and I don’t want to watch all of my favorite characters die. So I’m content to wait, I’m content to let them live on in my expectations of a new book for now. In the mean time I can hope that I’m wrong, that he’s been kidding at the beginning and ending of every book.

A question for anyone who usually watches the PAX vid of AI – do these continue the same adventure? I think I’m one behind (I started the one in which Chris played and let Mike DM, but I haven’t gotten back to finish it yet).

You know what will be even more exciting than when book 3 comes out? When schmuckfans stop asking about it.
