In an effort to get back into blogging while also focusing the positive things in my life, I’m trying something I think of as “One Good Thing” where I share a good thing out of my day.
This is one of those things:
* * *
Today I was hanging out with my boys, and I said, utterly unironically, “Jeepers Cripes.”
(I honestly don’t know why. As a lot of you know, especially if you’ve seen me in person or watched me livestream, I curse like a sailor with a broken leg an will happily shout “Motherfucker!” at the slightest provocation.
That said, I do tend to use different language around the boys, so maybe this isn’t that odd.)
Okay. So. As I said, I was hanging out with my boys, and I said, “Jeepers Cripes.”
Cutie: That would be funny if you said, “Jeepers Crepes.”
Oot: Delicious.
Cutie: That would be a curse word in the Candy Kingdom.
Cutie preparing something for Experimental Sandwich Night using a tortilla, peanut butter, raspberry jam, and what is known in our house as “garbage cheese.” It could be fairly said that this is about as close to a “Jeepers Crepes” as you are ever likely to see in this world.
* * *
Internet went out at my house last night, so I wasn’t able to livestream, tweet, or write a blog to promote the fundraiser or talk about the new items we have going up.
That said, things are going well. We’ve raised over $80,000 so far, which I feel is pretty good given, well, covid and the general state of the world.
That said, we have posted up a *bunch* of new things today, most of them limited in quantity, some of them purely digital (for those of you who live overseas and don’t want to pay crazy shipping), many of them severely discounted…
So if you’re interested in grabbing stuff, keep in mind that there’s only 3 days left before it’s over.
Take care of each other,
pat

Peanut butter and cheese is tasty as all get out, even if it’s garbage cheese.
I’m shamelessly going to steal that sandwich night idea for my kids when they’re a little older. :-D
Also great to hear you’ve managed to see the happy things. It’s sometimes hard to acknowledge the good in life in this day and age.
My first thought when I saw that photo: “How is it possible that Oot hasn’t aged at all?” *reads caption* “Ah, because that is in fact Cutie.” ???♀️
That’s a fair read. They’re so similar and so different…
Hey, Pat. Can you tell us what books you’ve been reading these last months. I know that if you stopped reading, you’ll die. Maybe in the next blog, tell us what you’ve read.
Sometime I’d love to hear about the best and weirdest creations from Experimental Sandwich Night. That sounds amazing.
I’ll make sure to document the experiments and share some of the results here before too long…
Have you heard of the new Dimension 20 campaign over at Dropout? It’s called A Crown of Candy and it’s very good. Basically it’s Game of Thrones with all of the kingdoms being food pyramid themed. I’m sure they would appreciate the new curse to add to their Candy Kingdom repertoire. :)
My go to non curse for use in front of my kids is “Framma Jamma Zim Zam!” Apparently tone counts because my daughter told me that’s a bad word.
That just made me laugh…
The contrast between the Garbage Cheese and The Healthiest Possible Organic Milk is really striking. :)
I’ve been chilling in your streams this week and it’s really interesting to hear your thoughts. I laughed, I cried, but most importantly I feel like I’ve learned a lot. Thanks for sharing your time with us and doing all of the good that you do.
So here’s a good parenting question, Pat:
Do you provide feedback to your kids, make gentle suggestions on how to improve a sandwich? Or do you let them experiment and have them figure out it on their own?
I struggle with this myself, as I’ve helped raise kids, and I still don’t know whether I should say, “Here’s the proper way,” or to leave them to experiment as maybe they’ll come up with something unique.
Hi Pat
I’m from Colombia (that’s why my english isn’t the best and i’m sorry for it), i love your books, they’re so good. So, just watching some videos about you on Youtube, i found that you are streaming on Twitch and also, i entered in the link that send me to this blog. Then, i was reading all your recents blogs, and i really enjoyed your stories about writing again in this page, and about your kids (i didn’t know that you are dad! haha) and i can’t wait to see all your new blogs to know more about you, one of my favourite authors.
I watched a badly censored rated R movie and they changed “mother F*****” to melon farmer. That is now my go to “swear word”
Yesterday, I finally told my hub he had been watering 2 plastic succulents. We had a really good laugh about that. He asked me why I didn’t tell him, and I told him, ” It was too adorable and when you said you noticed that one was starting to grow, I just couldn’t do it.”
Thank you for the share, Patrick – such a great idea!
Fudger-muffin used to be my go to non-cuss, but I’ve given up… my kids are teens and have just as colorful of vocabularies as I do.
Hi, Pat. A fellow fantasy writer from Spain, one that make a living out of words (pixelated words in my case).
I only want to share you a big hug with you. A really big hug. I haven’t ever experienced the short of sucess you had though I have my share of glory & dread.
I.only want to say you that for every living troll puking out there you have 1000 faes that dream and make a living of dreaming because people like you.
You are a master worldbuilder and you’ll always be. But you’re something much bigger thant that. A loving dad, a good friend, a living, breathing person.
Don’t let them take you that. Words are meaningless eithout happiness.
Best to you and to all yours.
I used “Dirty rod ritter frack” and my husband used “gee golly bum” as swear words…just thought I’d throw those into the mix. Oh, I just remembered! An Asian coworker of my husbands thought people were saying “pan in The eggs” when they said “pain in the ass,”…(it does make an amusing swear -alternative).
Hello!
Just posting to mention I have those exact same plates! They are made of some kind of weird indestructible material that apparently we have lost the ability to make in this day and age…much like Saturn rockets. My parents bought them in the 70s I think, and I inherited them after I finished college. So far they have survived multiple moves to and from Alaska, two generations of toddlers, and my talent for knocking plates into the kitchen floor on a monthly basis. I fully expect to pass them on to my 6 year old when the time comes.
Anyway, made my day to see another keeper of the invincible tableware out there. Stay safe.
Hey Pat!
I love the thought of a daily post that tells us one good thing that happened in your day. There is so many events that happen in our lives that we should look at the positive during these difficult times.
One good thing that happened to me yesterday is that I was able to play D&D with a group of people I have been meeting with for over half a year. They finally made it to Hell and just had to fight a custom Blood Devil I made. They almost died, but so many laughs were had.
One good thing that happened today is that I woke up and on my drive to work today, I noticed that the sun hit the scenery around me just right. The view was amazing.
Hope you do more posts like this and all is well. And kudos to you and your charity.
My 3 y.o. niece Elle would LOVE this kind of sandwich night idea, might have to do something similar for her!
Can’t wait for the next installment of Kvothe’s story, as a musician and a fantasy addict, his character truly strikes the heart.
Glad to have stories like yours.
